I booked San Fermin based on all the excellent TA reviews and I'm so glad that I did. It's every bit as good as everyone says! I know Harlem may not be most people's first choice of places to stay in New York but as this was my husband's and my third visit we thought we'd try somewhere different and we're really pleased we did - this was by far our favourite accommodation and we would definitely stay here again! In the past we've stayed in a hotel on the East side, quite near the UN building - very expensive and nothing to write home about; then we stayed in a B&B in Tribeca - a great location, but again, very expensive. This time we did NY on a shoestring and it was fabulous! San Fermin is great value for money.
... is just lovely! He welcomes you warmly on arrival and is so kind, thoughtful and helpful throughout your entire stay. He knows so much about New York and, whether you want help in planning a full itinerary or just a suggestion for some place nice to eat, he will give you as much or as little help and information as you want. Because this was our 3rd trip we didn't want to do all the typical touristy things so he came up with some brilliant alternatives. He also very kindly printed off our boarding passes for our return flights!
... is the best accommodation I've ever stayed in! It was absolutely spotlessly clean and I don't think I've ever said that before about anywhere I've stayed! We had a room at the back, looking out on to the garden. The layout of the room is perfect and the attention to detail is spot on. It's spacious and has everything you need... there's a small kitchen area with a coffee maker (coffee & sugar provided!) a kettle was also provided when Bernardo asked if we drank tea. Microwave, crockery, cutlery, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, dish cloth etc. - all the basics are there. There's a safe, plenty of hanging space for clothes, a comfortable, if rather firm bed (which has a tendency to move a little as it's on wheels!) The bathroom is lovely - beautifully tiled. The towels are gorgeous and there's a decent hairdryer in the cupboard under the sink.
.... perfectly safe and only 15 mins on the subway from Midtown Manhattan (Times Square). Subway station is just around the corner, a couple of minutes walk. Central Park is a 5-10 minute ride, Downtown about 30 mins and Battery Park about 45 mins. Plenty of local shops where you can buy everything you need.
... If you're planning to stay for at least 5 days, buy a 7 day Metro card - unlimited travel on the subway and @ $29 it's well worth the money and so easy to use.
I can't recommend San Fermin highly enough - there is nothing bad to say. I hope we're lucky enough to go back one day.
Thank you Bernardo, for everything! You are an amazing host and your B & B is beautiful. Muchas muchas gracias! Please don't change a thing!
