“The Perfect NYC Base”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2012

How wonderful to find a hotel in NYC with big stylish rooms, beautiful big bathrooms with huge walk-in showers. For us on a 9 day stay the position was perfect. And because the building was originally not a hotel 12ft ceilings.....amazing the difference this makes. Near where we needed to go for business, very close to Broadway for the nights and next to the Subway.
This is a new style of hotel, with fabulous young, helpful, committed staff. Forget what you have seen from Hyatt in the USA in the past. We're Andaz people from now on.

Stayed for 5 nights. As a Platinum Member, I was treated very well (late check out was not a problem, although the keys expired)....
Pros: Good location to subway and bus, close to theatre, K-town, Times Sq., Chelsea, close to K-Town and 20 quick blocks from Eately and Flatiron area, nice room service (Russ & Daughters lox!), and free beverages were great.
Rooms are amazing! Great shower/footbath. CLEAN!
Cons: If you are in the "other" tower, you have to take two elevators which can take time. Free coffee in the morning in lobby, but it was always out. If you are in second tower, you have to go to main tower lobby. It would be nice if there was a small coffee station near the elevator to the second tower.
Hard to get taxis in this location mid-day.
Make sure your driver knows it's the 5th Ave location as we went to the wall St. location (even after we gave address and intersection!).

My partner and I stayed at the hotel in mid may for 4 nights. We loved it! The service was excellent. The location was perfect - central on 5th Avenue opposite the New York Public Library - what a view from our room! Check-in took 2 minutes - check-out was the same - amazing. So slick and cool - a boutique hotel up to Euro standards - and large rooms - a little rarer for manhattan. We love the hotel and know why it ranks so high on Trip Advisor. We would certainly recommend - the Wi-Fi, free mini-bar etc are just the icing on the cake. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Ask for the view of the Public Library - brilliant.

I discovered this hotel through TripAdvisor. I have stayed at a number of good hotels in New York, including The Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc.
I really enjoyed the Andaz, the rooms are really nice, upgraded from a nice studio room to a suite and found both rooms to be very comforable and nicely furnished. This together with wooden floors made my stay perfect.
The staff are amazing, very friendly, super service minded and happy.
Stay at this hotel.
Congratulations to the manager who runs a tight, warm, friendly home away from home.

Room Tip: Great Midtown location, easy to get taxi's.

I am in New York on business after a two week business trip to Canada from Australia. All I can say is very dissapointing! Check in was friendly and efficient and that was about where it ended. The rooms are clinical and in the top 5% of the most impersonal rooms I've stayed in. One of the beds was damaged and leant at an angle ( I requested a queen and was told they only had a twin) so had to move to the other one. The adjustable shower head was broken and pointed at the floor as too heavy to stay up. This was despite tightening the adjustment as tight as possible.

When i was in Calgary, I signed up to the Hyatt Passport program as thought it would give me the same benefits as Priority Club. When I requested a late checkout I was told I can have an extra 90 minutes...

Seriously, the Crown Plaza in Times Square is better in every way (and much cheaper). Hyatt are just two or three rungs below everyone else!

Dear jemstu,

I agree that the modern look of our rooms will appeal to some guests and not to others, however there certainly should not be any maintenance issues with beds or showers. I am so sorry you had this experience, and hope you will contact me directly so that we can make things right. Thank you for your feedback!

Warm regards,

Connie

Just got home after a three night stay at the Andaz 5th Ave Hotel in New York. We had booked a King Room from May 9th through to the 12th, but when we arrived at the hotel they had upgraded us to a splash suite (room 905) as my wife had mentioned it was a surprise for my 40th Birthday. The suite was amazing and probably the best room I have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Emilio and Jo (I think that was her name). The hotel is very new and contemporary and in very good condition (I felt like we were the first people to use our room). The other great thing about this hotel is the location. Situated on 5th Ave, opposite the New York Library, Times Square, Grand Central Station, The Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building are all within 5 minutes walking distance, making it a great base to start out from. I could actually lay in bed at night and look up at the Empire State Building. How many hotels can you do that in? We only ate breakfast in the hotel once and whilst it was very, very good it isn't cheap. Ham & eggs and an orange juice and porridge and an orange juice with one serving of toast and marmalde came to over $70 with the tip. But as I said it was very good and I suppose it is to be expected of a hotel of this standard with the location it has. I could not fault this hotel in any way. They're obviously very focussed on giving their customers a 1st class service.....and they pull it off brilliantly in my opinion.

Room Tip: Ask for the Splash Suite (905) !!!!!!!!!

The hotel being right in front f the Library, it is very conveniently located for a short stay in town.
We stayed in a twin room which was massive, and our only criticism would be the lack of storage space. All the rest was brilliant!
