“Location Great for Sightseeing”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

This hotel's best attribute is its location across from NYC Library. Taxis are readily available on 5th and know how to get you home. Book a room overlooking the library and you will have a gap in the skyline that reveals Time's Square in the distance and a room with light pouring in.
Room very minimalist but comfortable with modern bathroom fixtures and a great shower.
The lobby is lacking a check in counter which we found jarring. Guests jostling for the attention of the check in staff. Interruptions galore from fellow staff and other guests. Abrupt, quick service with no real opportunity to inquire about services of hotel. This may be considered "modern and hip" but it lacks a personal touch.
The size of hotel is small. So, the walk from the front door to your room is 3 minutes.
Breakfast room service was delicious and efficient.

Room Tip: For a view ask for room overlooking the library.

My wife and I stayed here on the 4th of January for her birthday and for the second time in a year. Once again we had a wonderful experience. The hotel is located in about the best spot in Manhattan, across the street from the public library on 5th ave. this puts most major attractions within easy walking distance even on a cold winter day. Times Square, Rockefeller center, The Empire State Building, Grand Central Terminal, and Bryant Park are only a few blocks in any direction. The rooms are spacious, especially for a New York hotel, and quite comfortable. I haven't done the comparison, but I suspect that your cost per square foot is pretty reasonable when compared to other hotels in midtown. All of the amenities such as free wifi and soft drinks don't matter one bit if you don't have a good staff and this is where the Andaz truly shines. As we came Im to the lobby the person at the door takes our bags and leads us to the front desk offering to get us a drink. Water or a glass of wine are quickly offered. From that moment on not a staff member failed to smile and say hello. Everyone is polite and accommodating almost to a fault. I only live an hour drive away and could easily turn around and go home after a day in New York, but staff like this make it a pleasure to spend the night. We will be back soon. There is an anniversary coming up soon, or just a free night will do fine too.

We stayed at Andaz 5th Ave for New Year's Eve and overall we were happy with the stay. The rooms are a pretty good size (especially the bathroom), though we weren't crazy about the layout of the loft room. The location is great - very close to Grand Central Station, Times Square, and tons of other sights. A couple of minor issues during the stay - the receptionist alerted us as we were checking in that our complimentary minibar had not been filled yet, and it would be done soon. It never got filled at all. Also, we were charged after the fact for breakfast even though it should have been complimentary as Diamond members (which both the receptionist and waitress in the restaurant acknowledged). Still, it was a nice stay at a nice property.

Room Tip: Unless you want a separate working area, I'd skip the loft room.

Dear Krivokrasov,

Thanks for your review!

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't like the layout of our Andaz Loft that much. We have some other nice room layouts to chose from that may better suit your preference. Let me know if I can be of assistance in finding the perfect room for you for a future stay. You can reach me at ratna.steden@andaz.com.

Warmest Regards,

I have been visiting Manhattan several times a year for the last 30 years. This relatively new hotel has caught my attention. For me, it is rank among the top of the hotels to stay in Manhattan. First, it is very conveniently located. Walking distance to Time Square/Broadway district, subway station and even Grand Central station. You can even buy oriental groceries across the street. The hotel ambience is superb, it is very well arranged. The room is very spacious and great rain forest shower/foot warmer in the bathroom. Check-In with wine is a very nice touch. Very convenient valet parking. Now the service is really wonderful, starting from check-in, check-out and guest services. I could tell they must be run by excellent management and staff, both day time and night time. I cannot wait to stay in Andaz 5th again!!! (PS, be sure to try the restaurant for breakfast, it is a gem!)

The service at the hotel was amazing - we arrived after 24 hours of travel time to find the twin room we had booked was not available. No problem - we were immediately upgraded to a suite. We spent 10 fantastic nights, enjoying the friendly and efficient service from all the staff, including the drink service offered nightly in the lobby. Having stayed previosuly at the Grand Hyatt, the more intimate environment and the personalised service was a pleasant change. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here with my wife & teenage daughter for a 4 night break in Dec 2013. Chose the hotel based on central location & the expectation of a cold New York with many of our activities just a walk away. The Andaz 5th avenue did not disappoint in this regard. We were in room 903 (higher room for a quieter stay), with stunning views of 5th Ave, National Library & across Bryant Park towards Times Sq. The room's decor was more 'trendy' than 'useful' but very spacious with high ceilings. Lack of wardrobe/clothes space was the only criticism. Large bathroom, but slightly strange set-up as the toilet looks like it ought to be separated off, but appears that designers changed their mind at the last minute.
Took breakfast in the hotel on a couple morning, food excellent & service very attentive.
Generally found staff very helpful.

A gem of a hotel on busy 5th Avenue and setting a standard of making business travelers feel "at home" that other hotels simply don't match. Rooms are nice and contemporary but this hotel is anything but "cold". While I do stay at this hotel a few times a year on business, I am by no means a weekly/monthly regular. The staff greet me by name when I arrive and the restaurant staff have proven to be a true gem by remembering my preferences and making breakfast at The Shop a fantastic start to each day. I wish all the hotels where I stay around the global could make me feel as much "at home" as does the staff of the Andaz 5th Avenue.
