“Amazing food, great atmosphere, stunning decor”
Reviewed 24 February 2011

Came to the Andaz for a work party, and was blown away by the place. They had us (about 500 people) in an amazing space, with friendly, attentive staff and several efficient and well-organized bars. The decor was modern and beautiful without being OTT. Best part of it was, however, the food. They have chefs cooking in the room with you which added some real theater to the event. And the food was delicious.

After the event, everyone at work was raving about Andaz. Very highly recommended.

I have stayed in at least twenty upscale hotels in NYC over the last few years and this is probably the best of them. Tasteful decor, perfectly maintained, unusually spacious feel for NYC and without the gap between nice lobby and not so nice rooms found in most NYC hotels. Very nice function rooms, good coffee shop for a quick and perfect coffee/muffin in the morning, complete with movie scene views. Complemented by the free minibar and snacks, which may not have much of a monetary value, but are a nice touch adding to the homey feel. Staff is personable and truly helpful. Really nothing to complain about.

The Andaz Hotel is a very new member of the Hyatt brand. The location is great - very close to Time Square, Grand Central Station, shopping and restaurants. The feel of the guest rooms is chique and sophisticated. The bathroom is like a private spa. Overall, this hotel offers a great experience and a good price point. Awesome hotel -- service is exceptional, they make you feel very at home, staff always goes above and beyond, lots of little things are included like the gym (which is fantastic), internet, drinks and snacks in the room, wine in the evening, etc. The look and feel of the entire hotel is wonderful. And the hotel feels twice as expensive as it is.

Enjoyed a fabulous 6 nights at this absolute gem of a hotel on 5th Ave late December after checking out early of the (shabby & hugely disappointing) Mandarin Oriental after 1 night.
On a bone-achingly cold winter's day we were warmly welcomed to the uber-luxe, invitingly-glowing Andaz, treated to yummy hot chocolates & totally enthralled when shown to our stunning 'splash' rooms. The hotel is in a great central location, boasts a fantastic cafe & restaurant with an excellent menu at great prices (We had breakfast in the cafe EVERY morning - best breakfast in New York! Plus - great coffee!), & is beautifully, beautifully appointed. The bath and shower in our rooms were absolutely gorgeous - a beautiful deep soaking bath & a stunning rainshower with balinese inspired footbath - perfect for pampering after days of trudging around a snowy, sub-zero NYC Christmas shopping! The Bigelow amenities are divine and very 'New York' which was such a lovely & inspired touch after the 'blah' bathroom products at most hotels. The Geneva sound system by the bed was another lovely touch - drifting off to sleep to soothing sounds was so sweet. Desk & wi-fi were greatly appreciated by husband (on business) & teenage son! We had great views from our rooms & despite being on 5th Ave opposite the NYC Public Library the room was really quiet. We could hear sirens & car horns but nothing too intrusive & well, after all - it is nice to feel as if you are in NYC!
We were introduced to the General Manager of Andaz 5th Ave - who treated us like royalty throughout our stay and was a very sophisticated, witty, generous host. In fact, we felt like part of the family & not merely 'hotel guest' at all - the Andaz 5th Ave managed to raise our stay in NYC to an entirely different level.
Do not even THINK of staying in another hotel in NYC - the Andaz 5th Ave absolutely rocks!

Can't say enough about our stay at the Andaz. The service was impeccable; the room was clean, modern and inviting. The bathroom had every amenity; and free sodas and snacks in the room. The bed was very comfortable and warm.

We were greeted warmly and offered water and/or sodas. The young man who checked us in assisted us with our baggage and told us all about the room. If we needed help, all we had to do was ask. Though we didn't get to go to the Tapas Bar, we were informed of the hours and location within the hotel.

Great central location. I would give this hotel five stars and some.

I stayed at the Andaz 5th Ave. for three nights - for business in NYC.

The Good - The location is great if midtown is where you need to be. The staff and service were universally pleasant and competent, both traits that I've found lacking in other NYC hotels. Room service was prompt, request for toothpaste fulfilled quickly, staff actually addressed me by name after first meeting, etc. Food is excellent. Restuarant, bar, and room service all have interesting and well prepared menus. The selection is not terribly extensive, but the key is that they do what they do RIGHT. Nice wine list, phenomenal bespoke bartending, etc. The bar has got a quirky but very appealing vibe. Fun to go with a group - not so much alone. Rooms are very modern, clean, and technology heavy. Internet is free, as are the non-alcoholic mini-bar offerings and snacks. Yes, you read that correctly.

The Bad - The blackout shade is not REALLY a blackout shade. Kind of annoying for those of us that really like to sleep in really dark rooms. The functionality of the desk and chair for business travellers almost made me take the hotel to 3 stars. Seriously, the chair is the most uncomfortable P.O.S. I've seen in a hotel room. Baffling oversight. Beyond the utter ergonomic failure this chair represents, it is patently ugly. Sorry. It is. The shower is really gorgeous, but there is no door. It is big enough that you don;t splatter the floor in front of the sinks, but in the winter this makes for very cold showers. Unless you keep the room up above 78 degrees or so, there is no way around the feeling. Be aware that if you are sensitive to noise, the hotel (at least up to floor 5) is not quiet. Road noise, taxi honks, and emergency vehicle noises are pronounced. I don;t mind at all - I'm in NYC - but you might.

The "eh" - The check-in experience is novel, but it is a useless novelty. It is a really cute idea to have the receptionists wandering around the lobby with laptops, but in practice it leads to some confusion, waiting around while not sure you are waiting around in the right place, etc. No big deal, but because the set up doesn't ADD anything to the experience, it is just kind of odd.

Overall I liked the hotel. The rooms are clean, new, modern, and fun. I'd NEVER complain about staying here, but it isn't as if I think it is the best place in NYC.
