I stayed at The Setai Fifth Avenue for three nights in July 2011. I have to say it was a superb experience. The attention to detail, excellent service and luxurious extras really sets this property apart from other NYC hotels. The rooms are appointed with all the usual luxuries, but the extras such as the wonderful toiletries, top rate towels and sheets, treats such as caramel corn, chocolate chip cookies, macaroons left at bedside each night really add that extra touch. The bathrooms are perfectly appointed and have amazing natural lighting. Extra large and deep soaking tubs and rain showers with just the right amount of water pressure. The rooms are very quiet and I slept amazingly well. I ate in the bar/restaurant and found the food to be reasonably priced and delicious. There was a jazz trio playing that really added a nice touch.

The staff were extremely attentive without being overly fawning. When I told them the coffee maker wasn't working in my room they promptly sent up complimentary coffee service within minutes. I can't say enough good things about The Setai. I will definitely return.

We stayed here last Sat. night for our anniversary. (We live just outside the city, and could've taken the train in.) Although the area is the touristy, Empire State Bldg stretch of Fifth south of Lord & Taylor, which we as New Yorkers found less than appealing, the hotel does an excellent job of separating itself from the masses. The check in was very pleasant, with the clerk asking if it was an occasion. They then sent up chocolate-covered strawberries and a half-bottle of Taittinger Rose, with a nice note. Very classy. The bar is very nice, with high-end, fresh squeezed juices used in the drinks. And the gym is great. Huge, clean, bottled water for the taking. A very nice experience.

We stayed here for a long weekend and were very comfortable in a Studio Suite with King bed. We were on a package rate of "Stay 2, Get The 3RD Night Free", and stayed a total of 4 nights, which brought the cost down to about $600/night average. The room itself was listed as over 800 square feet and was very spacious, with a large seating area. The amount of closet and hanging space was impressive; they will press 5 items free upon arrival. The finish and appearance of the room and furnishings were great, and it's still new enough that there weren't any worn or frayed spots detectable. There was a faint smell of cigarette smoke in our non-smoking room (in fact the whole hotel is non-smoking!) when we arrived, which was quickly dealt with with by staff (the windows open, so they aired it out and cleaned again). The bathroom was massive, with a large soaking tub and separate shower with a rain shower head that really worked well. The TV set inside the mirror in the bathroom was a bit of overkill, but helped us get the weather update for the day while we were getting prepared in the mornings. The large screen TV in the bedroom was very sharp and had more than usual number of premium channels.

The wi-fi was free. Free refreshments were in the minibar (no alcohol), and several treats were set out in the room each day, during the afternoon and with turndown service (twice a day maid service). There was an espresso maker in the room. The personal assistants were great with finding us restaurants away from the usual tourist areas, getting us tickets, and had great recommendations about things to do.

We were on the 6th floor facing 5th Avenue, but the room was very quiet and the bed was low to the ground but very comfortable. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but we did have excellent fresh squeezed lemonade in their bar.

It's right on 5th Avenue, and many things are easily in walking distance: Empire State Building, New York Public Library/Bryant Park, Times Square (about 15 minute walk), Grand Central Station (the closest subway station). Central Park is a little over 20 blocks away, so it would be quite a walk in summer heat. Museum row is 2 subway stops away.

It's located in midtown Manhattan, about a 20 minute taxi ride from LaGuardia Airport in off-peak traffic.

I was in NYC for one night and was fortunate enough to stay at this remarkable property. Lobby area and food service areas were fantastic. Great vibe throughout the entire property. Fitness center was loaded with everything you would need and the location is fantastic. Room had it all. Massive bathroom with a rain shower head that blasted water. Marbel everywhere and TV in the mirror. Built in closets and dressers with extensive millwork throughout. Great desk area. They even shined my shoes and pressed my suit and shirt (no charge). Linens where soft and the bed was comfortable. Flat screen LCD of course.

I just spent the weekend here with my husband and ten year old and it was just fantastic. This was her first trip to NYC so it was important to us that we be in a good location for sightseeing and have a good concierge to help us make everything work. We liked being south of all the crowds around Rockfeller Center and north to the park but there were still plenty of shops and places to get a quick bite right outside our door - plus you're right next to the Empire State Building which is nice. The hotel itself is brand new , super modern and immaculate. The rooms are huge with the bathrooms taking up almost half of that space ( and the tv in the mirror in the bathroom was a hit with the kid!). We don't care for the more traditional decor of places like the Ritz so the Setai really suited our tastes.

The best part, however, was the service. The concierges were fantastic - especially Kimberly - they bought us express tickets for the Empire State Building, got us good last minute tickets for Cirque du Soleil, helped us find a good street vendor for a last minute quick dinner before the show and even bought my ten year old a cupcake from a local bakery because they knew we were taking her out to Carlo's Bakery (from Cake Boss which is her favorite show) the next day and wanted her to be able to compare cupcakes. The hotel isn't that big so we dealt with the same staff over our weekend stay which was great because they remembered us and helped us with so much. I was worried that the hotel might be geared more toward the business traveler and that it wouldn't be good for kids, but a hotel like this with great service can handle any type of guest.
