Description: PHILIPPE is the eponymous restaurant of Chef Philippe Chow, the talented Hong Kong native who helmed Mr. Chow for 25 years before opening his own New York flagship location. Philippe draws upon his classical culinary training, putting his own spin on traditional Chinese cuisine with results that are modern, flavorful and theatrical. The atmosphere at the restaurant is minimalist and stylish, with a devoted nightly following that makes up a virtual "who's who" of the music, media and film industries. Dress code is business casual. The following are not allowed in the dining rooms: baseball hats, jerseys, tank tops, flip flops, gym shorts.

“Far below my expectations”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

After several trips to New York always looking for a great Chinese restaurant we headed to Philippe. Nice dark restaurant really noisy, maybe because was full or because there were 2 groups of eight, but a conversation was sometimes problematic. We had dumplings pork and shrimp and duck spring roll. Only he rolls were good, dumplings had no taste at all and the shrimp were sticky as marshmallow. The velvet chicken was a disaster, taste like something out of a can, and the crispy duck was so greasy and overcooked that was leftover. No wine under 50$ in the list. Poor service too, brought me twice the wrong glass of wine. There are several far better options among Chinese restaurants in midtown or maybe we ordered the wrong food.

“Truly an amazing upscale Chinese restaurant in the heart of Midtown”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

My sister and law went here for dinner.

The food was phenomenal. We started w the hot and sour soup and then had the chicken in lettuce cups, house filet, and prawns in a black bean sauce w mixed vegetables. The house beef was one of the best steak dishes that I have ever had. It was charred just right on the outside and still moist in the middle and the sauce was just incredible. The hot and sour soup was as good as I have ever had.

The service was terrific. The waiter was very knowledgeable but not stuck up and had some terrific recommendations.

The location was great at 60th and Madison. The restaurant had a nice understated but elegant vibe. The tables were well spaced which is rare in NYC so you could actually have a conversation w/o worrying that those dining at adjacent tables will hear your entire conversation.

This is a place that I will definitely be back to. It's replaced Mr. K's as my go to spot for upscale Chinese in mid-trown.

“Not bad for lunch”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

Fun place with good food. Ambience is nothing to write home about but did I mention it has solid chinese food? The Peking Duck is superb - but takes a while. Good for business or fun or funny business. Good location close enough to walk to from Rock Center and most of mid-town.

“An eclectic Asian food experience not to miss!”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

My friend begged me to eat here while on a business trip together. To be totally honest, I didn't want to. The name made me think it was going to be French cuisine, which I'm not a fan of, but when I read the reviews online I realized it was an Asian dinning experience.

Se magnifique! From the Satay chicken (to die for) to the MR.CHENG'S NOODLES (which are hand-pulled noodles in a veal bean sauce) to the Kung Pao chicken, my taste buds went on a special journey.

Will definitely eat here again, and again.
