When we visited NYC this time we didn't want to spend $300 plus a night. Everything sub $200 in downtown Manhattan had horror story like reviews and were in the 2 star or below category.
Found aloft on TA and it was a winner. Rooms were of 4 star standard. Huge amounts of room to lay out luggage etc. Nice large television with a great choice of pay TV channels. Bar fridge (empty) was handy for chilling drinks. Staff were quite helpful too. As others have mentioned subway is near by and express train gets you downtown within 15 or so mins. Area is fine during the day during the night you just keep to yourself and head straight to the hotel. Laundromat a few blocks south down on Frederick Douglas. Grocery store in the same vicinity with huge food range. Drug stores nearby etc. Harlem Tavern good food option nearby
Put it this way. If someone said they'd give you $150 for riding the train to and from Harlem everyday you'd do it. That's what you are going to have to pay extra for the same quality hotel downtown. House decide. Classic American saying.......Its a noooooooo brainer!!
