“Elegantly decorated, amazing service and a rare "must-book" location!”
Reviewed 12 September 2011

We were really lucky to come across this new boutique hotel and its welcoming room rates.
Hotel Area
Set in the middle of the city center, right across the Rockefeller plaza and a breath away from 5th Avenue and all the shopping havoc that a traveller seeks. It is also close to important sights and attractions: St Patrick's Cathedral, Radio City Music Hall, Top of the Rock, NBC Studio Tours and MoMA. It is undoubtedly the best location anyone should have as a starting point, especially if it is your first visit in New York.
Bedroom & Facilities
We were 3 guests in a double room so we had to set up the extra rollaway bed in the corner next to the desk area. The room space was minimized but it was still enough for the 3 of us. Apart from the double bed there was a sofa, a plasma tv, a desk area, a microwave, a coffee machine, a fridge and also an alarm and ipod dock set next to the bed. We had free internet access, a considered bonus for any hotel of its kind, and also free print-outs from the hotel's lounge.
The bathroom had a wooden floor with a dark gray marble sink, a toilet and a bath. The bathroom amenities included a hair dryer, bath gel, lotion, shampoo and conditioner along with a bathroom kit.
The room's design is modern with a touch of wooden and leather furniture all blended together with the colours of anchor gray.
Service
The front desk was quite surprisingly helpful and friendly. They answered to all of our questions providing straight answers and they appeared very willing to keep our bags and providing assistance even long after our check out.
The hotel lounge on the 2nd floor had everything a guest needs. Everything there is self service. There are two computers with free high-speed internet, a living room area with a cable tv, newspapers and magazines as well as a coffee machine and a chilled water filling machine. With that in mind we were surprised that our room had all the quietness needed, despite the fact that it was right next to the lounge area, on the 2nd floor.
Overall a very clean and elegantly decorated hotel with amazing service and a rare "must-book" location!

Room Tip: Be careful to book a room at the hotel main building so as not to end up at the hotel next door when...

location, location, location and price= WONDERFUL! the staff was so great and attentive. Free bottled water. They have a lounge area with a TV, fire place and computers with a printer. Such a cute place. rooms were cozy, but that is NYC. We will stay at the jewel next time we visit NYC and have already told many friends about it.

Stayed here for our honeymoon after reading reviews on here. The pics and fact it is a relatively new hotel attracted us here intially.

We arrived at 3.30am and were greeted by friendly staff. The room is big by NY standards and was impecibly modern and spotless. The bathroom was nice and roomy too.

What a great touch seeing water bottle stations on each floor too. They definately came in handy during our stay.

The beds were spacious and unlike other reviews Ive read of NY hotels there was no noise that kept me up all night. It also had a dock to charge our iphone/ipods.

The location of the hotel was incredibly central as well. You just cannot do better for value and quality. Would highly recommend the jewel :)

This hotel is a jewel, just as stated in the name. One thing though, it has no reception or restaurant. For us this was no problem, but just as you know. The entrance are has two screens where you check in/check out yourself, and if you need any help its always staffed. And the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are big by New York standards and the bathroom was very spacy. The hotel is very clean and seems newly redecorated, there are water machines and bottles on every floor, there is a small lounge area with an ice machine. However the gym will not satisfy anyone really interested in working out, it is very basic.
The location is good, the orange subway is just 1 street away, and it's a 10 min walk to the red line. Times Square area is also just 10 minutes away, pretty much everything is close by.
We liked the hotel very much, and at the prices they are offering rooms, it is an unbetable bargain in New York. We will absolutely return next time in New York.

From the moment we walked in, the service and atmoshpere were wonderful. The concierge helped us get checked in and was very friendly and courteous. On the elevator on the way to our room, another guest saw our luggage and commented "you're going to love it here."

The room was the perfect size: smaller than hotels in other cities, but perfect for what I expected from NYC. Upon booking we requested a room with a view - our room overlooked Rockefeller Center and we could see St Patricks Cathedral too. If it were winter, we would have had a gorgeous view of the Christmas tree and skating rink.

The location was perfect! We were mere blocks from everything near Times Square, 5th Ave and less than a mile from Central Park.

The ladies (and gentleman) at the front desk made the whole experience 5 stars. Anytime we needed assistance, they were quick to help, whether it was providing instructions for getting to the subway and which train to take, or getting a discount for the Top of the Rock. They also have a car service to get around town or to the airport if you don't want to take a cab. They even have a "living room" on the 2nd floor with computers and a tv with couches if the hotel rooms begin to feel cramped.

All in all, we wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely take advantage of the "frequent buyer" discount they offered for return guests.

Room Tip: Request Room with a View, it's worth it.

My husband and I stayed here from September 2nd to 5th, 2011.

Our flight landed very early (7:30am) so we knew that our room was not going to be ready and we'd have to leave our suitcases while we began our tour of the city. To our surprise, when we got to the hotel at 8:30 am our room was ready for us.

When we got to the hotel we were very happy that it looked exactly like the pictures. It is a small hotel but modern, clean and offers great service.

We were very impressed with the room. Although it is a bit small it was big enough for both of us to move around comfortably. We've stayed in very small rooms in Europe so this didn't bother us at all. Plus, it's designed so well that they have actually made a great use of the small space. We had a queen bed and the room also came with a microwave and fridge which came in handy for snacking.

On every floor there are water stations with bottles for you to take with you while you sightsee. The 2nd floor area was also great for relaxing while waiting to leave for the airport and for printing your boarding passes. The girls at the front desk are great. If you need to make reservations they will do that for you. Or if you need anything else they are more than happy to help.

The location is like no other. You can't ask for a better spot. It's in between 5th and 6th avenue and across from the back of Rockefeller Centre. Depending where your room is you may even get a view of beautiful St. Patrick's Cathedral. We were on the 15th floor and had a great view of the church.
The subway is about a 3 minute walk from the hotel. Times Square and Central Park are only a few blocks away also. it is unbelievable how amazing the location of this hotel is.

If we ever go back to NYC, this is the first place we will look to stay!

This hotel is well put together in terms of its look as well as providing a lot of desired amenities that are situated in cleverly thought out nooks and crannies. The hotel has a modern theme. Beds are comfortable. Towels good but had loose threads. Gilchrist and Soames amenities. Responsive, competent, and polite service personnel. Negative was that the phones kept going down repeatedly and persistently so that one could not, for example, reach the front desk. My room was what they describe as a small room with no view. It was indeed that, but, as noted, it was very functional for the most part. There are rooms with views at higher prices, of course.

Room Tip: Read their descriptions.
