“Our stay in New York”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We have just returned from a 5 night stay in New York. We stayed at the Row formerly the Milford Plaza Hotel on 700, 8th. Avenue. The room had 2 double beds each one with lovely clean fresh bedding. There was a bath, shower, washbasin and toilet with lots of towels which were changed every day. The room, although smaller than we are used to, was 3 minutes walk from Times Square. There was also a safe, iron, ironing board and a digital alarm clock.
The staff were very helpful particularly Martin Santiago (Security) who kept a watchful eye over everyone.
Should we go back to New York in the future, we would certainly stay at the Row.

We stayed at ROW NYC for two nights in May. We got a fantastic deal on Priceline.com and were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel's location is absolutely perfect if you're interested in seeing shows on Broadway (or off Broadway), or if you're just hoping to explore Central Park and the Upper East/West sides. We did a ton of walking so we weren't at the hotel very much, but when we were there we were very happy. The room was small but perfectly comfortable. A nice girl named Lori at the check-in counter even helped us to get a room with two double beds (instead of one king), although they initially said we'd have to share a bed. Great customer service! The bathroom was clean, the view was awesome (it's New York! All the views are awesome!), the 'greeters' who were waiting near the entrance were beyond helpful and friendly, and the elevators were SO COOL!

Just one problem (and I HATE when this happens). We had an encounter with a staff member at this hotel who was, I am not joking, the rudest person we met in New York. We had actually just been discussing how kind, polite and welcoming New Yorkers are when we approached this person who was at the concierge desk, to help us with how to get to the Newark airport for our departure. This so-called concierge was rude, condescending, rolling her eyes at us and basically making us feel like idiots for not knowing the ins and outs of transportation between Manhattan and New Jersey. We sought out a manager but were unable to find someone to speak to easily so we reported this staff member to the check out person when we left the next day. It sucks because this hotel has everything going for it - great value in a terrific location, cool design and (again) awesome elevators - but all it takes is one crappy encounter with a rude employee to really sour your opinion on a destination.

We would stay at the Row NYC again, but if I was in management at that hotel, I wouldn't have that staff member working for me for another second.

Room Tip: We were on the 15th floor and had a street view. It was perfectly fine!

Dear jesslikesstuff,

Thank you for your fantastic review. That said, I couldn’t be more embarrassed that your otherwise-seamless stay was marred by the behavior of one employee. I am sincerely grateful that you have brought your unfortunate staff encounter to my attention and I assure you that swift and decisive action has been taken to ensure that your experience never gets shared by other guests. On behalf of the hotel, please accept my sincerest apologies for this unpleasant experience. We very much look forward to providing you with a flawless future stay. Hope to see you soon.

The lady at the front desk told me the room won't be ready before 4 but actually the other guy told me ppl usually get in around 2. Looks like staffs here don't sync with each other.
The room is really small. I book the room for four ppl and we only have three, but the bed cannot fit two ppl at all. This is ridiculous. The lady told me this is their best deluxe room so I can't upgrade except booking an additional room. In addition, the room looks crappy and dirty. The floor looks dirty and you can hear every single sound from the next door ( ok he coughed, he dropped things, he used the bathroom). This is my first night staying here and I still hv 7 more days. What can I say?

Dear Carrie W,

Thank you for your very troubling review of our hotel. We have attempted several times to reach you and to rectify the issues you have described. Please allow me to clarify: our check-in time is, in fact, 4pm but – as unoccupied rooms become clean – we try to accommodate incoming guests with earlier check-in times as a courtesy. I deeply regret any confusion you experienced with regard to this usually well-received policy. Please know that I am personally looking into each of the issues you described in your review and remain at your service should you decide to reach out. I hope to hear from you soon.

My wife found this hotel and I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. We got there early on Saturday, The staff was friendly, helpful, and checked our luggage so we could walk around while our room was made ready for us. We found that we were only a block from Times Square, so it was a great location. Once in the room, we found it to be clean and comfortable. The room size for New York City was a little larger than normal, we had a corner room on the 28th floor so the view was good also. I thought, the 28th floor, we're going to spend a lot of time getting to and from the room but the elevators were high speed and had an express system so they took little of our time. The hotel was very cheap by NYC standards.... we paid $240 a night. We will def go back to Row.

Room Tip: A corner room on a higher floor will get you views of the city in two directions.

I attended a college reunion in NYC and along with several friends, I stayed at the Row NYC Hotel. Without exception, everyone on the staff was pleasant and welcoming, which I thought was great for the large number of foreign visitors. Though the hallways showed the age of the hotel, the rooms were bright and contemporary. District M was a great place to catch a continental breakfast and we gathered in the bar to share many memories. What a pleasant find in NY!
