We had the junior exec room which is the size of 2 regular rooms. We look for size since we had 2 teenagers an brought an air matress for one and the other used the sleeper sofa. The king bed in the other room was nice and comfortable. When we asked for another blanket they only brought us bed sheets and said that is all they have which seemed a bit low budget. When we turned on the heater both heaters in both rooms made some noise but did not blow warm air which also seemed low budget. We called the front desk, the engineer showed up promptly and reset the heater and then they worked but continued to make some strange noises when the thermostat turned them on. The engineer seemed not very friendly, he did not say much, and seemed a bit tired from possibly resetting heaters? When this building got tuned into a hotel I suspect the heating and ac system was not replaced other than putting digital thermostats in the rooms. The location is great, not a far walk to most midtown attractions. All in all we give this hotel good value as the price was lower than most other hotels in midtown and the room was spacious.

One get tired of over-hyped, over-priced Manhattan hotels so I found the St Giles Hotel - The Court a very welcome surprise in Midtown. The location between Park and Lex is convenient to the transportation hub at Grand Central. The lobby is busy and comfortable. The renovated rooms are a delight, spacious, light-filled with comfortable bed, work area, and excellent bath. Mine had a wonderful view of the Empire State Building. The staff is most willing to be of assistance. While not cheap, the St Giles offers much more for its price point than many of the hotels in the part of Manhattan.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel are quieter and some have views of the Empire State Building.

I had booked the hotel on a "blind" travel site, so I have to admit that I wasn't that excited when I finally saw the name. I thought I knew most of the hotels in mid-town, but this was one that was definitely beneath my radar.
The hotel ambience is very boutique-like, and check in was smooth and efficient. One of my pet peeves in NY hotels is elevator waits, but I could always get from the lobby to my 5th floor room in about 30 seconds.
The room was completely updated and BIG by NY standards. Definitely one of the larger rooms I have ever had in the city. Everything was clean and the bed was modern and comfy. I recommend this hotel, which is not typical for most of the NYC hotels I have stayed at!

Room Tip: My buddy had room on the 10th floor, 1003, I beleive, and it had a great view of the Chrysler Buildi...

We booked the St. Giles through the quikbook.com "secret sale" for Dec. 9-12, 2011. Despite some cautions from TA forum "experts" that there were other, better choices in the area, the rate was in our price range and the location and features met our needs (king bed, fairly quiet street, close to dining options and transportation). We were pleasantly surprised with the room and overall felt it was a good choice and good value for the location and time of year. The room was pretty spacious by NY standards -- larger than the more expensive room the previous night at Hilton Manhattan East. A comfortable chair in a little sitting area by the windows was very nice. Very comfy king bed with plenty of pillows. Our 12th floor corner room had a spectacular view of the Chrysler Bldg. Most amazingly, this room featured a WALK-IN CLOSET! I have never seen that in a hotel...a good-sized one, too, with room for a separate bureau in there. Very nice flat panel TV with plenty of channels to choose. The bathroom was roomy, but lacked counter space and the shower stall was tiny. There was plenty of hot water at all times and cozy robes for each of us. The front desk/concierge and bellman/doorman were all very nice and helpful, and the elevators were efficient albeit with a little too frenetic piped-in music.

We did have a couple of gripes. The climate control was annoying as you usually expect in hotels, but it was particularly hard to get the room temperature right. We felt as if it was always too hot or too cold...never just right. The housekeeping staff on one day of our visit left us with ZERO toilet paper and not enough towels. We had to call down in late evening after a day of sightseeing to have these things brought up. The previous night, I called for a bucket of ice (which must come from the room service dept.) to ice my sore foot, and it never came. On two other evenings, it was delivered after a long wait, but it did arrive.

The location was ideal for us. 39th St. is fairly quiet, so not a lot of street noise or traffic. There are plenty of dining options nearby, and easy walking access to both Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Corner room had a great view of the Chrysler Building.

I stayed at the St. Giles Hotel in August and was both impressed and disappointed.

Their location is awesome. You are two blocks away from Grand Central Station yet in more of a neighborhood area. There are also great restaurants within walking distance.

This hotel was ranked as a 4-Star Hotel, but what I saw was less than 4-Star quality. While the rooms are gigantic (600-700 sf) and seem like apartments, the furnishings were on the cheap side and the carpets were worn and threadbare. Our air conditioning didn't work when we first arrived and the handyman told us that if we switched on a floor lamp, it would cause the air to turn off!

The Master Bedroom had a very comfortable bed but for some reason, every time I laid down on the covers, I started sneezing.

The bathroom was nice but very small. There was a mini fridge but no microwave or sink.

We had a corner room, that faced Lexington, but the traffic wasn't bothersome at all.

The Valet's and doormen were super helpful and they went out of their way to hail cabs or give directions. There is also a bar attached to the hotel right off the lobby.

You get free Wifi in the lobby area but it is very, very small with limited seating. The St. Giles has two locations, right next to each other (The Court and The Tuscany ). You can use the spa or business center at The Tuscany and we even received food vouchers for $30 per day, that could be used at the restaurant at The Tuscany. We didn't ever make it there but the vouchers could also be used for the mini bar items.

The rooms are HUGE in the St. GIles but after staying at the Affinia Dumont, which is only five blocks away, the St. Giles isn't even in the running anymore. The Affinia Dumont's rooms were much nicer and much more upscale. There are more and better restaurants all around the Affinia Dumont and they also have full kitchen's which further push them higher up the rating scale.

If your choice is a regular hotel room in Manhattan or a suite at the St. Giles, then I would book the St. Giles for room size alone.

A safety precaution yet a detriment - At the St. GIles, you have to use your room key in the elevator, each time you go up. That is great for security but a pain if you are carrying a lot of items. It got to be really annoying after 2-3 days.

Room Tip: Our corner suite had windows galore. I saw a few different rooms and the layouts are different in ea...

We arrived just after 7pm on a Saturday and our room was overbooked (discount travel site), they quickly upgraded us to a suite which was large for NYC standards. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was updated with modern decor. Small bathrooms and elevators, but very manageable. Only complaint was the noise, the street noise is expected, however the clanking of the pipes all night was annoying. Good location, five minute walk to Grand Central and away from the masses at Times Square

My husband and I stayed here in May 2011 on a weekend getaway to NYC. We booked it last minute and were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The building is in a more residential area and the rooms are very residential in styling as well. We definitely felt like we were at home as our "room" having multiple rooms and more than enough space. It was easily the largest room we've had at a hotel (without booking a suite). The bathroom was also large, very modern and clean. We were also able to walk just about everywhere we wanted to go from the hotel -- Central Park was definitely a hike, but we did it nonetheless.

The only negatives we had included a semi-cold reception at check in, but it was not terrible. And it was a little far if you want to walk up to Central Park. Other than that, it was overall a good experience.
