“Trendy spot for budget travelers, lack of value for money.”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

Service while friendly, at times was unreliable. Door personnel to help with luggage and to open doors were sometimes present and otherwise completely absent. The hotel rooms appear modern but the facilities need updating. The air conditioner was loud enough to disturb sleep and the hair dryer did not work properly. There were still signs of used stationary supplies left over from the previous occupant and stains in the bathroom. I found a large bug next to my towels in the bathroom although given New York buildings, some may consider this justifiable. Overall, I would recommend it for a one night stay for budget travelers, but not for corporate business travelers who may find the loud music in the open bar (located near the lobby area) unpleasant, epecially upon arrival with colleagues or clients.

I was surprised to arrive at the St Giles as I had stayed here many years ago when it was a W hotel, the hotel is quite old, refurbishment has been done quite nicely, we spent three nights in a noisy room on the 12th floor with an air con that seemed to come on and off during the night..the room was a 700sq ft a two roomed executive suite, it was just OK, staff at the hotel were very nice and as we were staying here 7nights they found another room for us on the 15th floor which exceeded our expectations 100%...there were a few negatives..Internet slow, breakfast only average...BUT this hotel goes out of its way to make sure their clients are happy, we were always greeted by all staff, and location is excellant, the room decoration is very nice, and the newspaper hanging outside my door a little surprise as many hotels are cutting out this service, As a regular visitor to NY I have stayed at many hotels..this would be an excellant hotel for first timers or Broadway lovers alike, definitely worth up-grading to an exec room!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 15th floor are AMAZING we had an exceptional view of the Chrysler Building from our pat...

My 2 girls and I stayed for 5 nights, got on a great deal through Hotwire. Upon arriving we got an upgrade on our room so we could be more comfortable (we had booked only for 2 people), wich shows you much interest to serve the clients (thanks to the manager). We did not use the restaurant but acroos the street there is a convenience and deli store where we had breakfast to go (eggs on a muffin and cereals for $10dlls) and ate them on the streets on somebody´s steps (didn´t know anybody anyhow). Have in mind that on the way to Grand Central Station you will pass a Starbucks on Park and 39th, and some delis. There is also ¨Grand Central Caffe¨ just in front of the main entrance to Grand Central, but sometimes there is a waiting line, so you might want to keep that in mind. The hotel is on a great location, and at night there isn´t much noise so you can sleep well, but by 7 you can start hearing all the racket of the building in front of the hotel. You can find good amenities on the bathroom, so you can forget your shampoo, conditioner and lotion at home. Remember to take your best walking shoes, and if you can, don´t forget to visit High Line Park.

Room Tip: Rooms to the North have a great view of Chrysler Building but a bit more noise on the mornings.

We stayed at St. Giles the court for 4 nights. Such a great location. Walking distance to all the great sites in New York and really close to Grand Central. When we arrived there were some issues we had with the room. Mike, one of the managers, accommodated us immediately with another room. And everything was excellent after that. The staff at the front desk and the concierge were extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you St. Giles - The Court, and Mike for a great stay in New York!

This hotel is in a great location. Minutes to Times Square, Grand Central Station, Central Park. The staff was very helpful and courteous, ask for ice at the front desk. Nice restaurants within walking distance. The question I always ask myself, would I stay here again for the price? Probably would. Very safe and secure.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the street. Our rooms view was of rooftops without gardens or scenery.

My husband, teenage son and our dog stayed for a weekend. Great pet friendly hotel, close to all the sites. The room was big by ny standards, could use bathroom upgrades, but was very clean.

Stayed at the St Giles two weeks ago for one evening. It's certainly easy to reach from LAG airport, only a few blocks from the end of the midtown tunnel (a plus). But for many business travellers, including me, the location is not so great (minus). For folks looking to save money, especially as hotel prices climb during the summer in NYC, it was very reasonably priced (plus). But i had forgotten that this was a former W Hotel, which in NYC I associate mostly with small rooms (and snobby service). They obviously can't do much with room size, so if you plan on spending any time in your room you can do better. If you just need a place to sleep it's fine. Finally, while St Giles did not adopt the snobby service of the former W (what's their problem, anyway?), the service at the front desk bordered on surly (okay, if I was not a fomer New Yorker, I would say it actually WAS surly). Elsewhere in the hotel it was indifferent --- example: after 4 calls for help to get my car out of valet parking, and after waiting 95 minutes, my car finally arrived with no explanation or apology.
