The Court – A St Giles Hotel
Ranked #334 of 470 Hotels in New York City
Reviewed 20 May 2014

I always stay at The Court when I'm in Manhattan, whether there for business (frequently) or pleasure (not enough!). The location in Midtown is extremely convenient - close to Grand Central Terminal for easy commuting, and close to Broadway for fun activities. The staff is the friendliest staff I have ever dealt with in ANY hotel. The rooms are spacious, especially by NY standards, and always neat and clean. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Pro: location.
Cons: Room reeked of cigarette smoke. After complaining to front desk, they had no other rooms available so I slept like crap. Loud old A/C unit. Batteries from remote control missing. Phone unplugged. No one answered when I called front desk. Slow elevators. I wore my flip flops the entire time. Will not be back.

Room 1004 smelled like smoke. Moved to 520 and was fine. Overall stay was OK. Place is somewhat worn down. Furniture looked quite used. Got the reservation through hotels tonight so was fine with the accommodations.

We were "upgraded" to a suite because we needed two beds and the hotel was sold out of double rooms. When we entered the suite we were impressed with the amount of space. There was a living room separate bedroom and two large closets, two TV's, nice mini bar area. So far so good. Then, I took off my shoes and noticed the carpet felt "sticky". Upon closer inspection of the dark brown rug, I could see many stains. After putting on some socks, I decided to relax in one of the chairs. They were old looking with some fraying. Then I noticed there were crumbs in the seat and a burned out match. During the rest of my stay, I encountered the following things:
- outlets hanging out of the wall
- black stains on the sheets
- windows did not open and a/c did not work in the bedroom
- very dim lighting in the bathroom
- very little counter space in the bathroom ( basically had to use the window ledge)
The worst issue with this room involved the shower. It was tiny with a useless shower curtain. Water pours out and into the sink area. There is a drain under the sink for the water to go, however it must be clogged and the water sits in a puddle under the sink. This is extremely dangerous as this is the only area in the bathroom that you can plug in the dryer and have a mirror to dry your hair. After showering, you are forced to stand aside the sink craning to see in the mirror without stepping in the puddle and getting electrocuted!

I did report these issues to the front desk and the woman listened nicely and offered to get the manager to see if they could do anything to compensate for the miserable stay. I really didn't pay much for the room to begin with and I feel it's more important for them to have the respect for their clients to fix these issues (dirt, unsafe electrical issues, ventilation, etc.) before they rent out these rooms.

I see there are positive reviews on here, so maybe it was just this one room? In any case, this is NOT a 4 star hotel by any stretch.

Loved, loved, loved this place! Great location, a nice walk to anywhere. Far enough from the craziness of Times Square but close enough for a nice 15 minute walk there. A total of 17 of us stayed over 10 days in April and The Court accommodated us so well. We had a few rooms, including an Executive suite and double queen rooms and they suited us perfectly. They went out of their way in relation to some specific events we had whilst staying the 9 nights. Nothing was too much and all done with a smile. A special shout out to Chase who couldnt have been anymore awesome and Carolina who had to put up with a bunch of drunken Aussies for a special occassion celebrated in the bar. We will definitely be back as soon as we get the chance.

St Giles Court and Tuscany are both a short walk from Grand Central and a decent walk to Times Square and Rockefeller Center. We stayed in a double queen - two adults and two teens- and had plenty of room. The room was clean and in good shape. It's not a luxury hotel but it was also not run down. It was exactly what we were looking for...central location, safe, clean and reasonable.

Hotel staff were very polite, friendly and responsive. We arrived early and they checked out bags for us so that we could explore the city. They held our bags again for our last day also so that we could enjoy the city before our late flight out. I would stay again.

They could not do enough for us! We had a king suite and for NYC it was HUGE!!! We had a living area (tv couch, kitchenette) then a hallway to the bedroom with a large walk in closet, good size bathroom and bedroom with TV and king size bed. The air conditioner worked great and helped get rid of some of the street noise. Amazing value for price and will definitely be returning!
