Upon arriving, you are greeted with a warm smile by hotel concierge. Sleek lobby with great front desk attendants. Rooms are clean and contemporary. Great Bose sound system for iPhone. Bed was very cozy and plenty of closet space. The balcony was a great touch! In room fridge was filled with plenty of goodies! I will stay there again!

We stayed at the Gotham for one night. We arrived on a Saturday at about 1:00 in the afternoon. I went inside to ask where the valet was for the car, they said we would have to wait a few minutes. I asked again at 1:15 & 1:30. We were told to be patient. At 1:45 my husband went to find a parking lot and park the car himself.

I went inside to check in while my husband was parking. During this time, another guest in the very small lobby asked to use the rest room. He was told that it was closed since the restaurant was closed. After I finished checking in, I asked for the key to my room. They said that I couldn't have it because it was registered under my husband's name. He had to sign in. I told them that he would have been happy to sign the register, but he was still out parking the car. After a continuing argument, when I said that I needed to use the restroom (still closed), he reluctantly gave me the key.

The room was fine, a little small. The bathroom was small but nice, and had a few stray hairs on the floor - not the cleanest I've seen. The bathroom was out of tissues, just an empty container.

We wanted to go to the bar on Saturday night at 11:30, but it was closed. We asked about having brunch in the hotel on Sunday morning but it was only open from 7:30-10:30. We asked for a recommendation for brunch but they didn't have one. WE WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. The location is good, but that is all it has. They have no comprehension of the word "service".

Room Tip: Our room was by the elevator as well as right on the main street. Our son had a better room which wa...

Great hotel amazing place to stay we booked for one night but our experience was one of the best. Great service, breakfast was fine (I had better to be honest) but the staff and the hole experience was great.
Definitely I would love to go back.

Stayed in a Skyline room which may be better then some of the other reviewers stayed in. Its a nice size room with large windows and terrace and we had a great view of 46th street,
The hotel has a small but charming little lobby , the front desk was very nice , we were offered a complimentary glass of wine and were always welcomed upon leaving or entering with a nice greeting from the staff and the door was help open for us by a staff member
We did not eat at the resturaunt but it looked lovely.
The bathroom and shower were perfect as was the terrace we had off our room...a downside might be to those who spend several nights, no real dressers so you live out of your suitcase although the desk and nightstand had a few tiny shelves...lovely place probably best for a few nights stay !

This hotel looks great on the website: excellent location nearby 5th avenue in the middle of midtown, tastefully designed rooms and a good rate, all seems to promise a nice stay in a little hidden gem of a hotel.

Reality is a little different.

The rooms at the back get incessant drone from the A/C chillers, earplugs are a necessity.
Half the light bulbs were broken in the room.
Internet is free but went down ("short maintenance" but after 5 hours was still down...)

If you can get a great rate ($200 or so) and have good earplugs, no problem. Otherwise, you can get better managed and quieter hotels for the same price.

Room Tip: Avoid the back, or go high enough (15+)

Room. Stayed in 43, room with a balcony. If you open the balcony door the noise from aircons & the smell is awful.
Breakfast is ridiculous&service poor. Front desk cannot help you with even basic things. Location is great but otherwise just too bloody expensive for the poor quality you are getting.

Try chatham closeby, if you are looking for similar ambience.

This is not a hotel. It is a block with rooms and that is about it.

Positives
Rooms are good: big size, king bed with lovely linen and mattress, bathroom small but nice.
Nice generous products.
Balcony, although quite useless with smells from restaurants outlets.
Black out blinds, big tv etc,

Negatives
Place seems to be run by a bunch of students on a holiday job. Whilst they are all nice, they are not professional and don't know how to work in customer service business.
We asked for a paper in our room. They said they did not do this. We asked if we could have one anyhow and they agreed. None arrived the next day. When my husband went downstairs to get it, the lady said: you cannot take it with you. It is for the hotel. Ok, so one paper for the whole hotel despite the in room booklet saying we can have a paper.
We ordered coffee in our room: it was cold. When we complained the reception said, it had nothing to do with them. We should speak to the restaurant. The guy there started arguing with us and then came up to check if the coffee was really cold!!
We did then get a hot coffee at last.
There are no hotel facilities: no lobby to speak off, bar only opens in the evening, no proper toilet in lobby. We had to go to basement after check out.

We did not have an awful stay but at it was not value for money. There is no manager in charge and it is all very slap dash.
I would not stay again. There are plenty of better choices in Manhattan.

Room Tip: The higher the better
