“Good Location”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

Stayed here for 4 nights. We were on the 3rd floor at rear although it had a balcony there was no view but the room was just for sleeping in. Nice clean modern spacious room lovely bathroom which huge shower. room had a very well stocked bar but disappointed that there were no tea/coffee making facilities but there was a coffee shop and a dunkin donut shop next door which was handy. Huge bed which was sooo comfortable.
Aircon and safe included but air con was noisy. Only other little niggle was that there was only a couple of clothes hangers.
Hotel fairly central easy walk to most attractions with 5th Avenue one side and Madison other.
Hotel Staff were polite but girl in donut shop next door just didn't want to be there even though we went in each day she was not friendly.
Easy to get to from airport we got a yellow cab fixed price $52 but if you go a train its less than a 10 min walk.
Hotel offers you a car to airport for around $80 but we left at 3.45am and got a cab on 5th Avenue quite easily.
Would recommend as a hotel in a central location but if returning would go to different hotel to be in a different area - not because i didn't like hotel
We found it good value as we booked this as a package and we were travelling onto Barbados and we also got a free night

We stayed at the Gotham in May 2014. Right from the word go we were impressed. The staff were so polite and welcoming, the rooms are gorgeous (especially if you have one with a view on the front!) and they come with your own private balcony. They are a finished to a lovely standard and the quality of everything in this place is high. The hotel is in a very nice part of town and is only a ten minute walk from Grand Central station if you're coming into the City by train, or bus from the airport (the buses drop off right at GC). All in all a wonderful stay and we will always be booking the Gotham Hotel when we stay in NYC, thank you!

Room Tip: See if you can get a room at the front and if you're okay with heights, on a high floor - lovely...

Modern, clean , fresh, luxurious with generous sized room and bathroom. No city noise at all in rooms at the back of the hotel. Free WiFi available. The staff were excellent, friendly and very courteous. The location was great on 46th East, just off 5th Avenue and close to a number of New York attractions.

Room Tip: If you want a room that is quiet from the 24 hour New York sounds, then get one at the back of the h...

Biggest plus of the hotel is its location near 5th in midtown. All the usual tourist spots are in walking distance. At night sourroundings are a little bit bleak and lifeless, but that's a general midtown issue i guess.
We stayed in a Deluxe King room. The room was ok, but nothing special. More on the smallish side (even for NYC). The tiny tiny french balcony facing the street was a nice touch tough.
Bathroom was small with a dumb layout which made it even smaller in perception. Workmanship was poor. The shower itself was very good though. Nice bath amenities.
Housekeeping was average, we have been to much cleaner hotels.
Biggest minus was the service and the lobby/reception set-up (or better non set-up). Personnel ranged from indifferent to downright rude - if you found some, which was difficult itself.

We have been to New York multiple times, but this was the first time, we wouldn't recommend a hotel. It's okish, but very bad value for your money, as it is way too expensive.

Room Tip: Get a room on a high floor and facing the street.

We spent a week at the Gotham and found the service and amenities excellent. The hotel is in a fabulous location in easy walking distance of Times Square, Rockafella, Grand Central and of course it's just off 5th and Madison. The bed was huge. We had a balcony with no view and probably wouldn't choose this again as we didn't use it. The bathroom was well presented. The television was also large. There is a mechanical hum from outside which actually improved our sleep as it blocked out the buzz of Manhattan. My husband is a very light sleeper and found that he had excellent sleep at the Gotham. We did not try the breakfast or the restaurant as the rest of Manhattan was on our doorstep!

From the moment of arrival to the time we left we were in great hands at the Gotham Hotel.

With a fantastic central location in Mathatten, the hotel was a perfect place for our tourist holiday.
Close to 5th Ave and only a couple of blocks from Time Square and Grand Central Station. We couldn't have asked for a better hotel.

The hotel itself was a tastefully decorated, modern, boutique hotel (which was formerly a library). The rooms were a good size, with a very comfortable bed, 42" cable TV in each room and great shower room amenities included.

Our Stay...

On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly night porter Allan.
He came and helped us with our luggage from the cab, explained where everything was in the hotel as well as checking us in swiftly with no delays or problems.
Over the course of our stay he was very helpful and informative about NYC transportation and attraction location, as well as just being a very friendly person to chat too.

During our stay we also met and struck up a friendship with Rey and Hemel, who worked during the day.
These two colourful characters always greeted us with a smile and friendly conversation. They were keen to ensure that our stay was everything we wanted it to be, and it was!
When it came to the end of our stay they assisted us in our return travel to the airport, booked us a cab and made our travel arrangements for us so we had nothing to worry about.

I would strongly recommend the Gotham Hotel for anyone wanting a plush hotel in the heart of Manhatten.

We booked a one night stay in a "Skyline Suite With Terrace" for the night of May 25, which was during Memorial Day weekend. The suite is described as having a king-sized bed and a good sized terrace and the photos on the website show a loveseat, coffee table, occasional char, desk and desk chair, and the king-sized bed. Our confirmation email verified the room type including the king-sized bed.

Check-in was fine except that the website-advertised glass of wine at check-in was never offered -- actually, we would have very much appreciated some cold still or sparkling water at check-in. Our room did indeed have a wonderful, spacious terrace overlooking 46th St., but that was all that was as promised. In fact, when we got into the room I called the front desk because I thought an error had happened in that it was so small, with no sitting area and a smaller bed. The staff member kind of mumbled something about our room being on a higher floor and therefore smaller. We had to get going to meet some out-of-town friends so we dumped our bags and left.

Upon returning in the evening we inspected the room more completely and the bed was most definitely not a king-sized bed. The shades on the windows were dusty and some had stains on them. The bathroom was outfitted with beautiful tiles and fixtures but was totally impractical. You had to step into the shower to turn it on, resulting in unwelcome cold water -- plus the shower door leaked. You couldn't wash your hands at the bathroom sink without first closing the bathroom door as it obstructed the sink when it was open. That evening I made another call to the front desk about the bed size, and while there was acknowledgement about the level of suite we reserved there was also some side-stepping about why we got the room we got and were recommended to talk to management in the morning. We forgot toothbrushes and asked for them and the front desk promised someone would bring some. We waited a half hour. It took another call to get someone to bring up two toothbrushes in crushed boxes. One aspect we did like about the room was that there was a fridge that wasn't crammed with mini-bar offerings so that we could put our own bottles of water in there, even though there were a few beverages for purchase already there.

In the morning I filled out the form left in our room asking for our feedback (the form actually had stains on it!) and I listed out all of our issues, including my email address. Upon check-out we talked with a manager who said that we indeed did not get a king room and that we got something called a "California Queen?" and refunded us $30, apologizing for the housekeeping issues.

We loved the terrace, but the cleanliness issues, the design problems, not getting the size bed that we had confirmed, the fact that our room was soooo not what was pictured, and the non-responsiveness of the staff made us not want to return again. Plus, as of this writing it has been two weeks and there has been no email response to all of the issues I wrote for the general manager (not the manager who refunded us the $30), which is disappointing as well. The website for this hotel makes it look beautiful and elegant and indicates a pride in personal service, but our experience just doesn't match up with what was advertised on many levels. In fact, if it weren't for our nice terrace, I would have given this place two stars for not being transparent.
