“Great Find near Holland Tunnel, SOHO, TriBeCa”
Reviewed 26 January 2014 via mobile

We spent three nights at this great, reasonably priced Inn in an historic building near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. Kip and Sara were kind and accommodating hosts, even leaving a beautiful surprise bouquet of flowers outside the door of our friends on their wedding night. I'm not a fan of the concrete canyons of midtown, but a walk up the Hudson River greenway to the High Line, time spent in the Chelsea Market, and a walk back to the inn via Greenwich Village reminded me that the city has so much else to offer. We took cabs or subways to Broadway and the Empire State Building and I was always please to get back to the comfort of the inn. Some significant construction on nearby luxury condo buildings marred the initial impression and curb appeal, but this will be a temporary inconvenience. We'll be back and look forward to sampling some neat neighborhood restaurants.

We were here a year and a half ago while I was in NYC for business. This time it was a just a relaxing weekend. We got to the Inn around 8:00 pm on Friday and the check-in directions provided in our confirmation email got us into the inn without any hassles. After moving our luggage up to the Sinnot Suite I went to park the car at the Pier 40 garage. However, as I rounded the corner onto Greenwich St. I noticed signs that said No Parking Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am - 6:00 pm. I asked around and found out on-street parking was allowed over the weekend. FREE PARKING IN NYC!

The Sinnot Suite was perfect. Even though it overlooked Canal & Greenwich Streets it was very quiet. The bath was larger than what is in the Kennedy Room. A separate kitchen area just inside the door to the suite and a small sitting room with TV just added to the comfort of the suite. Our first night in the suite I slept 9 hours ... can't remember when I did that last. The bed was perfect ... at least for me.

Breakfast is not skimpy. Everything is waffle style but you have several options of toppings and waffle. Fresh OJ, unlimited coffee and interesting conversations with Kip, the owner, are a great way to start the day.

This was our second stay ... there will be more.

Room Tip: Both of the rooms we've stayed in have been quiet. The Kennedy Room faces the back of the build...

the breakfasts here are great, the rooms are very clean and the beds are new and comfortable. We stayed in the Kennedy room over New Years and we were happy to be returning back to this Inn after a lovely New Years dinner celebration. It's located in Tribeca so you're close to everything.

Third year we have come from Vermont to audition opera singers. We love staying at Canal Park Inn - we take over all 4 four rooms! Easy drive in on the Hudson Parkway - easy parking at Pier 40 - but the best is the charm of this gorgeous spot and the great customer service. Breakfast is served - fabulous waffles, fruits, yogurt and granola and unlimited coffee.

Bed linens are important to me - the beds are comfy and the linens are as soft as butter.

Although we audition in mid-town - we love to escape to the quiet, peaceful lower west side - great restaurants in all directions. This year we discovered a fabulous French restaurant - Cerque Rouge - a short walk from the inn.

Want to come back in the spring - the Batby suite has a deck and table for eating outside (and a full kitchen).

This place is an escape from the craziness of NYC - but just a walk, subway ride or cab from all the attractions!

Room Tip: All rooms are gorgeous - if you are there for more than a few days - I would choose Batby as you can...

We stayed in the Kennedy room for 4 days and loved every minute! After walking the city on cold December days it was great coming back to the warmth and coziness of the Inn. Sarah greeted us upon arrival and we were treated great from then on. The breakfast was delicious in the Playhouse and Kipp helped us out a lot with our first experience in Nyc. Even learned a little of the history of the neighborhood. We will definitely be back!

Quaint, historic Inn only 2.5 blocks from the #1subway line (with stops in Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Times Square, Columbia University, etc.). The rooms are lovely, well-equipped and QUIET. Breakfast is very nice with a good selection and excellent quality. Sheets were the softest I have ever felt! We have found our pied-a-terre in Manhattan!

We had a delightful stay at the Canal Park Inn on a nippy November weekend. We came up for a concert at the nearby City Winery (fabulous) and a weekend of exploring (such fun), and it was great to have a suite to return to when we were ready to put up our feet.

We stayed in the Sinnott Suite in this charming 19th-century row house. The bedroom is the size of many entire NYC hotel rooms -- plus there is a separate sitting room, bath, and kitchen area. The building is delightfully quirky with low ceilings, exposed brick work, wood floors and operable windows.

Breakfast downstairs was tasty with nice options, and our hosts were friendly and helpful. It was easy to set out on foot to explore -- and when the time came to check out, they helped us with a car service to the airport (cheaper and less stressful than the cab that brought us in).

This is not the place to go if you thrive on glitz and glamor. But for a quiet retreat in a bustling city, the Canal Park Inn can't be beat.
