“Get on Debra's bus!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We only had about a day and a half after our cruise to see New York City so we decided we would do a sightseeing tour with Gray Line. We did the uptown tour and it was ok. I was not impressed at all with the tour guide. He was boring, he kept talking about tips, and he kept being rude and yelling at people. A couple times, he got rude because someone would sit in his seat. I understand the seat is clearly marked, however, not everyone pays attention but instead of nicely saying, I'm sorry, you can't sit there. He would say, "you! You're in my seat! Get up! I'm not kidding. Move!" Um, ok then. He also kept mentioning how they do accept tips. And when i say kept mentioning...i don't mean like 2 or 3 times, i mean he kept mentioning it like probably a couple dozen times. It was annoying. With his boring and at moments rude self, he shouldn't have been talking about tips at all unless they were just going to go to the bus driver alone. I didn't even get his name. Anyway, moving on...We then did the night tour and Debra was our tour guide and she was excellent!! She acts like she loves her job and her city and I love that. That's how it should be. She would point out good photo ops which I appreciated. So my advice is...if you choose this bus line.....try to get on the buses where Debra is the tour guide...she's fabulous! I plan on going back and would probably do this tour again...I will try to find her and if she's not available and I step on a bus that the other guy is on...I will be stepping right back off. :)

Gray Line New York hand picks and trains tour guides who are all truly excellent. While you may find one tour guide to be better than another, all of our guides strive to exceed your expectations. If you feel that your tour guide deserves a tip, then by all means please go ahead and tip as you see fit. Although tips are not mandatory, they are very much appreciated. Your feedback is important and helpful. Your comments help us to constantly improve and make our popular tours even more enjoyable. We apologize if circumstances on that particular day caused you any inconvenience.

“Find another tour company”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We had a 48 hour hop-on, hop-off bus ticket and during the two days had 3 different guides. I agree with another reviewer that what you get out of the tour depends very much on the quality of the guide, but I can only say that we must have been unlucky with 2 out of 3 being absolutely awful. One of them made only the most banal statements, another we could barely understand and a 3rd seemed to think that his anecdotes about overeating or drinking too much were entertaining. We learned very little about the city or its history during our tours. Very disappointing. The wait to get on the buses having alighted from them was also often unacceptable, meaning you had to wait for the next or even the one after that. You could end up hanging around in the baking sun for 1.5 hours. Next time would use another company of which there are plenty.

Although most of our tour guides are truly excellent, they are human and sometimes you may find one tour guide to be better than another. Our buses can be delayed by the local City Police department or by other traffic like activity that is often beyond our control. We apologize if circumstances on that particular day caused you any inconvenience. Your feedback is important and helpful. “Stop!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

This trip was scheduled by Essex House on Central Park. We walked across the street and stood for 45 minutes. Several of the other companies buses came by until finally our bus arrived but they told us it was too full. When a bus finally arrived we rode 5 blocks to Time Square and we told to get off and wait for another bus. Another 15 minute wait before we were finally under way. My advise, once you are on....stay on. Don't fall for the Hop On Hop off. If you do hop off Good luck getting back on. A waste of 4 hours and $118 dollars before we gave up and took the subway. $2.50.

We are proud to offer the largest fleet in New York with many convenient stops along the way. As our tour tickets are sold giving you the flexibility to use them whenever you are ready, we can only estimate the number of actual buses that will be needed. We usually have an ample amount of buses running throughout the day but we do realize that there may be a time when the passenger volume may be at an uncommonly higher number than usual. We apologize if circumstances on that particular day caused you any inconvenience.

“SCAM!! Beware of street sales reps”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

I wish that I had read these reviews before buying from these scam artists. Justin outside of Hilton Times Square told us that we were buying tickets for the bus plus Empire State Building. We told him that is where we wanted to go. Didn't include it. At Empire State a rep Robyn, from what I now know is a different Gray Line Company, CitySightSeeing Cruises sold us a regular ticket as an express ticket. Complete dishonesty which obviously is accepted by the company. Why deliberately ruin someone's time in NY?

We encourage all of our guests to visit any of our many convenient visitor centers. Our visitor centers are staffed with agents who are trained to assist you with any of your sightseeing and general New York related questions. Although street agents are trained to assist customers with obtaining boarding passes and attraction tickets, we apologize that the experience on the street can sometimes be informal.
