“Great design done right”
Reviewed 16 November 2011

Recently stayed at the Yotel for business. As a designer myself, I appreciated staying here to experience the new concept. It is a Youth Hostel meets hip, but tiny, NYC hotel...and it works! the shared spaces are very well designed and themed. the cabins are tiny, but extremely well laid out.
if you plan to spend a lot of time in the room, it may not be the right place, even though they managed to get all comfort items into the space. lots of storage, easy access to clothing/closet (no closet, just smart hangers and drawers), well proportioned TV and the convertible couch to bed.
I did read somewhere that once the bed is extended, the room is not maneuverable... it is tight, but not true.. and it is exactly as described.

The one design flaw I have to note is the shower. It is "grouped" with the toilet" and can be closed of form the sink with a superficial sliding glass door. all good....but the partition between the shower and toilet does not work and makes a nice puddle...

Still great experience. Super close to the convention center (my target) and walking distance to Chelsea, Madison Square Garden and the Theater district... give it a try.

Believe it or not, I was at a Springhill in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It had a new generation theme with superior design and functionality. It was a real conceptual surprise and it gave me hope for a realized comfortable stay. Now, put that on steroids and add a huge helping of humanity. Yotel is near perfection. And to top what they've done at any point in the future will take some serious vision. It's that fine of an experiece.

Now i'd never been to New York before, and i was delighted with the hotel experience.
The hotel is clean, flash and very stylish. The staff over at the hotel were very professional and the doormen were extremely friendly.
I got great travel, restaurant and city advice from a member of staff named Rafael.
He was so helpful and polite that it was so refreshing to be treated so well by hotel staff.
I'd stay here again in a second. Great hotel bar, restaurant, & the rooms are compact enough to suit all your needs.
I'd also like to add that the hotel offers free wifi, so if' you're looking to save money on your phone plan, or find that internet access is an absolute must, then look no further. Most hotels in the city charge for internet access.
With YOTEL this isn't the case.
A wonderful budget stay for 1st time visitors of the Big Apple, or regular visitors.
Say hi to Rafael if you see him, he'll hook you up with any information or help that you need.
Cheers YOTEL,
Thanks for the memories.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same. Compact, stylish and comfortable.

It's like living inside an iPod...seriously. If you're looking for something different at a super affordable price this is it. Some people say it's small...but all times square near hotels are tiny...Yotel is smart about it though because they made the shower part of the room without a door; hence it makes the room seem more spacious. Pretty slick.

Room Tip: ask for a higher floor, you'll get a better view

From the moment I arrived the staff (I was helped by Alex) guided me through the computer check-in process the hotel amenities; love that every floor has A galley with free espresso machine. the lay-out of the hotel really makes it look like a space station.

The rooms are small but make gre3at use of the space - they are not for those of you who like to spread out in your room. I found it to be the perfect size for me and my +one. The shower and bath room are equally well designed massive shower head rains upon you (no tub, but so what?) loved the lighting in the room and I tested the statement regarding the rooms being sound proof by cranking Deadmau5.

The bar and restaurant at mission control are far superior to that of most similar rated hotels and the mixologist did a great job with our cocktails ($10-$14 each).

Upon check-out, which agians is all done via computer on the ground floor we left our bags with the Yobot (a robot that stores your left-luggage) so we could explore the city. Not only is this a huge help it was free. I expected to pay $10-$20 for this service so free was a huge bonus

Okay, this may not be for everyone, I'm a mid 30's guy, I love gadgets and love that there is a hotel out there that caters to people who appreciate clean design, efficient use of technology and then wraps it all up with superior service when you need it

This hotel is very close to the subway station (about two blocks) and it's a very chic, streamlined, modern hotel. The designers did a lot with the limited space they had. The room is somewhat small but convenient. The walls are very thin and you can hear all the conversations that go on in the hallway and the "closing of doors". However, the room was clean and well appointed.

The "free breakfast" only consists of muffins and coffee, but they do offer breakfast for a cost.

The issue I had with my room was that the room began to smell of sewage in the middle of the night and it lasted from 1 a.m. until about 6 a.m., I called the operator who had housekeeping arrive in our room with febreeze and water and some liquid to pour down the shower drain. The gentleman that came said that they often have drain issues and suggested we open the window.

Of course, that helped a bit, however, the room was freezing and the sounds of NY were full blast.

The next morning we spoke to a manager who offered to refund us one night.

We chose this hotel for a combined business/leisure stay also coinciding with our wedding anniversary. Chose it based on tripadvisor reviews and have not regretted this for a single second! Location is perfect, far from the crowds and noises but close all the city centre attractions. We looooved the funky and stylish atmosphere of Yotel, appreciated friendly, relaxed and service-minded staff and loved the food and drinks both for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We really loved the fact that the hotel style is so complete - from staff uniform and behaviour to the music, decor of rooms and names of dishes in the menu. Great job, we'll be back!
