I used a bargain hotel site that hides the name of the hotel until after purchase, so I ended up here for my stay in Manhattan. I'm not happy that this was classified as "Madison Square Garden/Chelsea area" because it definitely is NOT. But for one night, I can deal with it.
Check-in is at a computer station; initially elevators were confusing because from check-in area the elevator only goes to 4th floor. Then you get off, and there are some public areas, with elevators around the corner for the 'cabin' floors. 'Cabin' is a good description; this is the smallest NYC hotel room I've had and it does feel and visually look like a plane or ship cabin (that was the design inspiration for this hotel chain). The queen bed has a recline option. You need that because when the bed is flat for sleeping, there's almost no room to walk past it!
There's no privacy in this room (or to the outside, for that matter.) The shower is a clear glass cube in the corner of the room; the toilet is on the other side of the shower from the bed, but there's no door at all and only a sheer curtain. Basically, if you are sharing a room you'd better like your companion because all the sights and sounds are going to be shared. Also there's a full-length window at the shower end of the room, so I imagine you could put on quite a show for the building across the street if you wanted to. Walls are thin too, so hope that you don't have rowdy folks in the room next door or walking past in the hallway because you'll definitely hear them.
Complementary morning coffee and muffins were nothing special. But the bed was comfortable and other than some off-putting mildew at the corner of the sink, the room seemed clean. Hard to get water hot enough for a really good shower. It was okay being here but I wouldn't choose this hotel.
