“Probably better for young travelers”
Reviewed 2 February 2013

I used a bargain hotel site that hides the name of the hotel until after purchase, so I ended up here for my stay in Manhattan. I'm not happy that this was classified as "Madison Square Garden/Chelsea area" because it definitely is NOT. But for one night, I can deal with it.

Check-in is at a computer station; initially elevators were confusing because from check-in area the elevator only goes to 4th floor. Then you get off, and there are some public areas, with elevators around the corner for the 'cabin' floors. 'Cabin' is a good description; this is the smallest NYC hotel room I've had and it does feel and visually look like a plane or ship cabin (that was the design inspiration for this hotel chain). The queen bed has a recline option. You need that because when the bed is flat for sleeping, there's almost no room to walk past it!

There's no privacy in this room (or to the outside, for that matter.) The shower is a clear glass cube in the corner of the room; the toilet is on the other side of the shower from the bed, but there's no door at all and only a sheer curtain. Basically, if you are sharing a room you'd better like your companion because all the sights and sounds are going to be shared. Also there's a full-length window at the shower end of the room, so I imagine you could put on quite a show for the building across the street if you wanted to. Walls are thin too, so hope that you don't have rowdy folks in the room next door or walking past in the hallway because you'll definitely hear them.

Complementary morning coffee and muffins were nothing special. But the bed was comfortable and other than some off-putting mildew at the corner of the sink, the room seemed clean. Hard to get water hot enough for a really good shower. It was okay being here but I wouldn't choose this hotel.

Room Tip: No choosing; your room is electronically assigned. You don't talk to a real person about this.

I am not sure why some people have rated this hotel poor, because it's amazing. To start with you are greeted by extremely friendly staff in the lobby and get your first glance of Yobot (he stores your luggage when you check out so you can go exploring, awesome to watch) Our room was fantastic with an electric bed that's so cool to play with. We did not eat at the restaurant but wish we had as here were people coming from everywhere to eat there. My only slight moan was that there was no coffee/tea in your room, it was at the end of the corridor in a communal room, but is it that bad to not be lazy? (Not sure a room next to this would be good though, people coming and going all the time) but it did not effect us anyway. The final part that would make me stay here again is that it is in walking distance to theatres and Times Square and a tube station. Fantastic hotel!

Room Tip: Try the restaurant, wish we had!

We have visited this hotel this January for four nights and we really enjoyed it. The room looked exactly like on the homepage (we had the premium cabin) and although the room was not big, it still provided more than enough room and was well divided. The hotel is hi-tech and the experience starts at the check-in which is fully automated at a kiosk and it is childs play. Although you can arange everything using a kiosks there are still hotel employees around literally a few steps away willing to assist you. It's not a problem to store your bags before the check-in or after the check out. Just use the Yobot in the lobby (you don't need your rooom key/card for the yobot).

Probably the best hotel experience I ever had.

Room Tip: We had a room on 15th floor and it was both quiet and provided a nice view up Manhattan

Trendy, clean and well equipped just very small with lotto room to move around. Bathroom should be behind a closed door not a curtain, that was a bit strange. Had dinner at the Asian Fusion restaurant it was great! Breakfast is not worth the prepaid charge of 11 dollars, I would eat breakfast outside Overall a good experience will stay there again .

We loved the Yotel for it's quirky features, efficient service and layout and the friendly staff who were always around to help. We had an excellent view from our bathroom window and enjoyed the facilities in the galley. The rooms were more than adequate as long as you were prepared to be tidy and organised. The showers were a little under powered but the shower gels were lovely and a nice touch that there was a morning and evening version supplied. The location was brilliant and perfect if you like to explore on foot as times square was a short amble away.

The muffins at breakfast were a little dry and on one day we ordered from the menu, the food was nice but there wasnt much variation from the egg theme!!

My only small gripe was that the concierge gave us the duffest reccommendation when we asked for a blues club. We spent a fortune on tickets and had to endure the worst and weirdest jazz pianist and trombone duet imaginable. It was not an enjoyable experience at all. He had steered us away from BB Kings telling us it wasnt very good - we visited it the night after and had a much better time....lots of dollars lighter as a result of the poor advice!

Currently having a very pleasant stay here in Yotel NYC. The hotel has been great, there's nothing I can complain about. The rooms are small but fine for a short stay, we so have two massive suitcases as we were in Miami for 9days beforehand. but for a normal 4 day stay its perfect.
The room has great views from the bathroom. I cannot comment on service from the staff as I've had no interaction due to being checked in by a self serivce.
The hotel is only a 10mins from Times Square with many restaurants and theatre shows near by. CVS is right cross the street if you forget anything.

Highly recommend Yotel!

I mainly choose to stay here during business trips because I can walk to the Javitis Center and the subway is super close. Be prepared - the rooms (cabins) are small and the bathrooms are not completely private. This is a good place to stay if you are traveling alone. Alhtough, I did luck out this last trip and I got a handicap room - corner room with HUGE windows. It was bigger and the bathroom was semi-private. Bonus.

They also have a great happy hour and the bar food/tapas are delicious. The outdoor patio is awesome in the warmer months.

Room Tip: I would try to get a handicap accessible room again...
