“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Very modern, high tech hotel. Very open and roomy compared to other Big Apple hotels. Business atmosphere. Clean! Great Service. We travel to NYC a lot for business and pleasure, great hotel for financial district, a little far from touristy Times Square. Recommend!

We stayed at this hotel in September and loved every aspect. The room was beautiful, modern and clean. All the employees were helpful and nice. We had a great view of the river from our room. We really liked how the living space and the bedroom could be separated by the shoji like screen doors. Great location too!

Great lobby and bar, beautiful rooms and attentive staff. Well sized suites and interior finishes are top of the line. Conveniently located across the street from 2World Financial. Great access to the River path for running or bikes.

Perfect if your traveling with kids. There is separate living room that can be closed off from bedroom. Put the kids to bed and still party! Hard to find that in a NYC hotel for an affordable price. Book on Priceline or call hilton and they will match rate. Plus you can easily find parking on street in battery park city. Save yourself $60.

Spent the weekend here while in town for a wedding. We booked because relatives had stayed here last summer and said it was great. They weren't wrong! Very dramatic, art-filled lobby. Large, very well-designed and well-decorated room, with furniture that will stand up well to use. No view (very few rooms have a view, I think), but on a very quiet street one block off the Battery promenade, which makes for great walking and views. Translucent screens close off the sitting room and bedroom from the central bathroom area, to give privacy when stepping out of the large shower. Takes a bit getting used to, but a good setup. A Nespresso coffee maker - could use more than three k-cups.
Our package came with continental breakfast or an upgrade. We got the breakfast which was very good - much more extensive choices than the usual continental. Two unaffiliated restaurants in the bottom floor - Blue Smoke BBQ and North Grill. We will definitely stay here again when in NYC.

Room Tip: All rooms are quite similar, not sure how much more a room with a view will cost.

Stayed here for a conference and no doubt it is a beautiful hotel. The room was extremely large and very comfortable. The stand-alone, walk-in shower room was a real treat, as was the housekeeper's getting our room ready for us in the evening (water set up by our beds, TV turned on to peaceful ocean sounds, and a next-day-weather-card set out on the pillow). The hotel is very modern, almost futuristic, complete even with room doorbells.

It does seem, though, that it caters to a certain clientele, of which we're not. Upon entering the hotel, no hotel employee was in sight, and we spent several minutes confused as to whether or not we were at the right place. We were happy we did not need any help with our luggage! While the entry is on the ground floor, the lobby and check-in desk is up a large set of stairs / escalator. There is an elevator if needed but it's around the corner and not in plain sight upon entering. During check-in, while the gentleman was nice enough to us, we got the sense he was almost humoring us by giving us a room. My teenage daughter and I arrived after spending some time uptown with some friends; we were wearing ripped jeans and were traveling with backpacks (rather than suitcases). Clearly, we were not the typical people checking in at this hotel.

On two separate occasions, concierge was very unhelpful and patronizing. The first time was the first evening when we inquired as to the closest place to get gelato. Little Italy. Really, that's the closest place? Okay, how about regular ice cream. Nope, no place anywhere around here. I guess he forgot about the Shake Shack two doors down for the ice cream and the eatery two blocks away with the great big GELATO neon sign in the window. <sigh> The second was the next day when my friend had come downtown to visit with us and was asking for information about the best way to get to JFK from the hotel. We all definitely got the message he didn't want to be wasting his time talking to us. It was sad, really. We're nice people. Really.

The lobby is big and bold and makes one feel like s/he is in a modern art gallery. It wasn't my thing personally, but I cannot deny that it was pretty spectacular and easily the most striking hotel lobby I've ever seen.

If you're a fancy financier or businessman (or what to feel like one), you'll likely love this hotel. If you're a family or regular ol' Joe, you may feel a bit out of place. While we were super comfy in our room and really did like the hotel, we still felt a bit of relief upon checking out and returning to our own world. My daughter said she was tired of being looked at suspiciously every time she was out and about in the elevator and lobby.

I don't know if the hotel supplied the food for the conference or if it came from someplace they contract with, but regardless, it was absolutely fantastic.

One suggestion for the hotel - please add TV check-out to your guest services. It was surprising that the hotel was so modern otherwise but didn't allow for that.

I got incredibly lucky when this place popped up on Priceline's Express Deals (it wasn't hard figuring out which hotel it was, given that there are only two five-star hotels in FiDi).

From the moment you enter with the crazy blue lights and the escalator - you know you're in someplace special.

The room itself was wonderful - great separated living room area - incredibly comfortable bed and just modern decor all around. The shower was fantastic. Nice little touch with having your name on the TV when you get in.

I would highly recommend this if you're traveling and planning on doing a lot of sightseeing - I wouldn't recommend this if you expect the hotel to be part of your experience. I thought service was good - but not extraordinary, so I could see that being a problem if your expectations are to be pampered.
