“Nice quiet hotel, good central location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2012

The Sofitel on W. 44th Street is centrally located to get to all the attractions of New York easily. Only a few blocks from Times Square, Grand Central Station, Bryant Park, and an easy walk or subway to Central Park. Staff are courteous and helpful and the rooms are comfortable.

Room Tip: Some rooms face back alley with no view...

We had a great overnight stay in NYC at the Hotel Sofitel. The location was exactly what we were looking for, since we went to NYC see a Broadway show. Only a few blocks away from Grand Central, and in the heart of Times Square. We paid a little extra and had a room on the 23rd floor. Great view, nice size, and beautiful marble bathroom with tub and separate shower. Can't comment on housekeeping, as we only stayed one night. Staff was friendly, and helpful, greeting us, "Bonjour, good morning," as we left for breakfast the second day! We were also very pleased that upon our early arrival, our room was ready and we were allowed to check in. Definitely a plus for us. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I flew into JFK after a 16 hour flight from South Africa, thinking it might be a long-shot that the hotel would let us check in at 8AM to shower before hitting the streets. Not only did they check us in at 8AM without any problem, they gave us a free upgrade to a king-sized room (from queen). The room was clean and well-appointed, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was immaculate - everything you could ask for in a hotel room at a decent price. The service was excellent; the bell hop recommended a fantastic place to grab a slice of pizza nearby as we walked the few blocks to Times Square. The location was great for walking to restaurants, a Broadway show, and the Empire State building. Without hesitation, we would stay here again the next time we visit Manhattan.

Definitely one of the best rooms we have stayed in in Manhattan, and we have stayed in quite a few. Beautiful marble bathrooms, gorgeous glass enclosed shower with a separate bath with a hand held spray head; candle in the bathroom, nice touch; fresh orchids in the bathroom; fresh flowers in the bedroom (this was not a suite, BTW, just a regular room); large TV; VERY comfortable bed, luxurious pillows, free Evian, turn down, beautiful deco molding, everything extremely clean and maintained, completely soundproof, perfect sun blocking draperies, etc. In short, all of the amenities you expect but do not, in Manhattan, usually get - and all for a relatively reasonable price! We would absolutely stay again, no question about it.

I decided to take my wife on a surprise anniversary trip to New York. I had stayed at the Sofitel in Paris a few years earlier and thought I would try it's sister hotel. Well what a wonderful stay we had. The room was fabulous and the staff extremely helpful. The hotel is well situated for broadway and Times Square, but far enought away not to be disturbed by the hustle and bustle of its night life. I would strongly recommend anyone wishing to stay in luxury in New York to consider The Sofitel.

Room Tip: I don't think it matters as New York is so built up unless you were on the top floor you'd h...

Convenient location near 5th and 6th avenue / Broadway. The rooms are business like but the suites on the top floor are nice (there is no voew for the rooms on floor 1-15) if you are lucky enough to get an upgrade. The bed is comfortable and the amenities are classy. The quality / price ratio is good compared to upscale NY hotels. Courteous staff.

We have stayed in many hotels NY but none can compare to the staff at Sofitel. No attitude at all. Excellent service from the time you leave the taxi until you vacate the premises.
Housekeeping was outstanding they provided immediate service and didn't leave anything unturned. Whenever we needed wine glasses or anything else it was prompt. Bottled water was left on our night stand-nice touch. Security came up immediately when my key wasn't working and my feet were too sore from walking to bother going down stairs. Nice guy!
We had friends who are in the restaurant/ hotel business on Long Island and the felt it was great as well. Advised them it was our anniversary and there was a treat left there. Matress was too soft and lumpy for my liking, however, we thought we would ask if there was anything they could do on our second night so they replaced it! Many French speaking staff-Sofitel is a European hotel. Even the shampoos were ones that I would use-L'Occitane products.
Location the best! We were so close to 5th avenue. Go to 200 5th Avenue-it's called Eataly-its a warehouse with various booths celebrating Italian heritage. There is a proscuito stand; cheese etc.

Room Tip: When I booked the hotel I requested a possible upgrade. They advised me they would make a note of t...
