The Dylan hotel 's best attribute is it's location. One block south of Grand Central and walkable to Bryant Park, Times Square and Central Park (little less than a mile walk), I loved where it was located. It was clean, the staff friendly and helpful but the room itself somewhat sparse and claustrophobic, as were the hallways. But the price was a bit lower than comparable hotels in the area. Valet parking available - around $50/day.

Room Tip: I had room 1204 and it had no view.

A fun and funky hotel. Playing off the history of the building, the cups in the bathroom were 250ml beakers. The quotations about NYC from famous people that are painted on the walls, the sweeping staircase, the Euro style of the rooms and public spaces, and the fact that the TV has more non-English channels than English-speaking channels make this a very different experience than staying at most NYC hotels.

Convenient location and a great place for a romantic NYC getaway.

Stayed for work for 6 days on business trip but also took my wife. I have given 5 star to hotel despite some bad points to the stay. 5 stars because the hotel manager and staff worked hard to improve the disappointing start we had. Picked this hotel specifically because it had a gym which unfortunately fell apart the first time I used it - was essentially dangerous! only 2 piece of equipment also and couldn't be used again which was annoying when travelling with work!

However, the manager and several of the staff we talked too after voicing our complaint, made a real effort to improve the situation and as a regular traveller I do appreciate not everything can be perfect but the test can come with how a hotel reacts and trys to make the stay better - the Dylan staff did this for us and offered extra as compensation for my wife and I on this trip, so what could have been a poor review - I am rating at 5

Also - it is expensive but go to the steak house - Benjamins - top quality steaks - the size of your head!

Room Tip: You wont get a good view but room 909 was a nice suite

I was upgraded to a king room and it was very spacious - I could even do yoga in the space between the bed and desk (my measure of a NYC "spacious" room). Lots of nice details: extra toothbrush, free wifi, a tiny boxy of chocolate. The lobby is just so-so, but looked like some renovations were happening. The desk is a u-turn around the entrance, and there was no one to help me with my bag up the steps through the front door. But I am not spending the night in the lobby, so I could care less about that. If you speak Spanish or French, this might be a very good fit - bi-lingual staff at front desk, cute touches like a short novel in Spanish at bedside.

Some quibbles: no outlets near the bed for an i-phone, my (big white marble) bath was quite cold compared to the rest of the room. Like other reviewers, I had to plug my phone in, in the bathroom.

If you need to do anything around UN or Grand Central, this is a great location. I had breakfast at Essen around the corner on Madison, and my nails done at Nail One next door, both very good.

Room Tip: high floor was very quiet

They need to sweat the small stuff. Toilet paper, wash cloths, soap etc without asking. They ask you if you want to reuse towels but have no towel bars in main part of bathroom--only two hooks--but one was missing. Would only call a taxi if you were going to an airport. Staff very friendly.

We visited the Dylan with family and booked two rooms- the suite as well as a regular room. The suite was really spacious and had a minimalist decor. The bathroom was a good size too. All in all our three night stay was extremely comfortable and I have no complaints. However, I daresay that it needs a bit more personality. Location was central.

The Dylan Hotel in Manhattan unites tradition and modernity exquisitely and with a contemporary elegance that captivates our guests. The building is very emblematic, first having been the residence of the Welsh writer, Dylan Thomas, and later the headquarters of the New York Pharmacists Club. The Dylan Hotel combines the classical lounges and guest rooms of the period with ambiances and areas in contemporary design. We are a non-stop hotel, because the Big Apple never stops.
