“Kids night out”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

My kid is in the theater business so I wanted to do something with her together that she enjoyed as a bonding experience. We had fun and still do improve from the class.

“A Change from Regular NYC Stuff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2012

We went with our kids, ages 12 & 14. We all enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy from the crew. It was a nice change from the regular touristy NYC stuff. Crew was very good at getting the kids involved and laughing. Afternoon show had a one drink minimum. Though this may be expected of this type of entertainment, it was still a put off. We had rather paid a little more for the ticket...

“Kid and adult comedy fun. If you have kid(s) this is something to do for all of you. We went today and it was a welcome ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

We went today and it was a welcome reprieve from the Broadway/museum/shopping scene. The crew was funny and inclusive, got all of the kids ( and parents) participating and laughing.
The club is now on 53 street two blocks west of Broadway, not the address listed above.
You can reserve tickets online before you go. There is a two drink minimum, we got a water.and sprite for $10. Just remember you are supporting the program!

“Good, but not great improv”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2011

We tried the 3:00p Sat. show of Improv 4 Kids with a 9 and 12 (almost 13) year old. We are "Whose Line Is It Anyway" fans - so, we know good improv. This troupe was good, but not great.
We sprung for the "VIP" tickets. That was a waste of a few bucks. I would suggest saving the money and going for the "general admission" seats. The VIP seats were center -- but, an insider told us that if you arrive early enough, your GA seats will be just fine for a few dollars less. There are only three rows in the center -- front, middle and rear. VIP seats were front and middle. Rear would have made little or no difference. Later comers will get side seats, which might be a bit annoying.
The actors were witty and sharp, but not quite worthy of a Broadway-ish stage. To be fair, though, playing to a group of kids is tough stuff. And, these five handled most of the young audience suggestions (filled with "Justin Bieber" and potty references) with relative ease. My kids definitely enjoyed themselves, and had they rated the performance, I suspect they would have given it 5 stars.
I was expecting something slightly more professional. For example, the theater was dirty and old - with old broken down chairs. There were no drinks served at this midday show (probably a blessing given the prices). The emcee (who was quite funny) was also the pianist and clearly the troupe leader. He jumped around so much into the various roles that his energy became spastic at times.
Some of the games, in my opinion, were not geared for the little ones. For example, one game calls for different authors yelled from the audience. Then, the actors do a story in the style of the various authors. The trouble is most of the kids only know a hand full of authors - and the styles are not necessarily all that interesting. Using TV or film styles might have worked better.
Okay, maybe I'm nit picking. The bottom line is that the show is worth $15 a ticket. The kids will most definitely have fun. And, the adults might get a god chuckle out of it too.
