“Fun, interesting afternoon”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

I was in New York recently with my father, who was visiting for the first time. I wanted to take him on a tour to get the lay of the land, but I wasn't interested in riding around in a double decker bus. I contacted John, and he was able to accommodate us for a tour that included Midtown, parts of Central Park, the Upper West Side, Riverside Park, Harlem, the Upper East Side, and even down to Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Financial District. A native New Yorker, John is passionate about sharing his city and has lots of interesting stories to share. He can also tell you where to stand and how to get the best photo of the landmarks you visit. He even spotted some celebs for us! I liked the fact that we could walk around a little bit at the stops along the way, and John also pointed out places where we could get some food/drink or use the bathroom. Dad and I both had a great time and would heartily recommend John to anyone who wants to do something a little different.

“Just the BEST fun to be had!”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

I just can't say enough how great this experience was for our family. It was freezing cold, but a beautiful day in NYC, and since we choose not to get out and walk around, John tailored our trip to our needs, and we saw parts of the City we never would have seen, learned history that was fascinating (he REALLY knows his stuff) . As a native, his explanations of life in the city was insightful and informative. We truly felt like we were being invited to share the City with a good friend. Beyond a doubt, the afternoon was the highlight of our trip.

This is the ONLY way to really see and understand this great and diverse City.

Thanks, John...and by the way, the pastrami was awesome!

“Great overview of the entire city.”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

We chose the Dynamic Contrasts tour because we wanted to see more of New York City than midtown and lower Manhattan. The tour was exceptional and provided a excellent overview of NYC. John was a fantastic guide and put together a great route with all the stops we were looking for.

“Above and Beyond”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

John was absolutely incredible; he showed me every part of Manhattan on the Manhattan tour and provided so many facts about everything I can't remember them all! Ditch the double decker bus for this personalized, affordable and awesome tour of the Big Apple. He allowed us to get out the car many times to walk around and get up close and personal with the sights. It was a great activity to do for the first day in town. He's a trustworthy, safe driver and is eager to help you enjoy the city!

“Better than a bus, up close NYC with an excellent guide.”

We were looking for a more complete tour experience and, researching Dynamic NYC Tours on Trip Advisor, we booked two tours, Manhattan (Uptown and Downtown) and NYC Night tour.

A few days before our trip John, with Dynamic NYC Tours (DNT), personally made contact to assure our travel schedule had not changed. That person-to-person contact exemplifies why this is a unique approach to touring the City of New York. I cannot cover everything, but here are a few highlights.

The Manhattan tour started near the Hard Rock Café in Times Square. Time Square is the quintessential must see tourist stop where Darth Vader, Batman and the Cookie Monster all hang out for photos and tips amid millions of lights. We toured the Theater District learning how to categorize Broadway, off Broadway, and Black Box theatres along the way. We stopped across the street from the Dakota apartments, walked Strawberry Fields, a living memorial to John Lennon, and took photos at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park. Guggenheim Museum is just across 5th Avenue and is part of the Museum Mile. We went by several museums and landmarks, making a stop at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Riverside Park overlooking the Hudson River.

Since we had visited St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral on our own, it was interesting to see the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, the Episcopal response, which claims to be the fourth largest Christian Church in the world. It was very impressive, as was the adjoining garden and statuary.

In Harlem, we walked down Lenox Ave in and viewed the beautiful brownstones, and stopped in front of an old church that the Unitarians built. It later became Congregation Chebra Ukadisha B’nai Mikalwarie where Jewish immigrants worshiped, and eventually became Ebenezer Gospel Tabernacle. The building is a good metaphor for NYC, as the city is every changing and evolving.

We drove along Park Avenue with its median parks featuring tulips and Alexandre Arrechea’s “No Limits” 10 large-scale sculptures symbolizing New York’s most prominent buildings. Past the Flatiron Building, we stopped at Madison Square Park and accidently viewed Orly Genger’s “Red, Yellow, and Blue” sculpture, dedicated the day before and featured in the WSJ that morning. We finished up by viewing China Town and Little Italy.

We enjoyed our tour guide John who was knowledgeable, innovative and flexible. He was also an interesting person for which we were grateful as we spent 8+ hours with him during the two tours.
