“Great stay, nice service touches, but lacking that something extra”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

Stayed at the Ritz Carlton Battery Park for one Saturday night in October as a short break before having my second child. The location is really nice - out of the really hectic hotel/tourist sprawl of midtown but near enough to transport and some attractions. And the views of the river were incredible, especially at sunset, and the telescope in the room was a fun touch for viewing the boats and buildings along the river. Really was something to watch the huge cruise ships come past. And a great walking location for the river walk up through Battery Park city and Tribeca. Had a great massage, really one of the best I've had, at the spa and the front desk receptionist left a baby gift in my room while I was out which was very sweet. Had a drink and a snack in the bar area before going out to dinner which was fine and had a decent ambiance for a hotel bar. I think there were just a few things missing to make this a truly luxurious experience for the price. The spa is really just a few hotel rooms made into a spa area and this hotel could really use a nice luxury spa area, perhaps with a pool too or sauna/something extra. The hallway and room decor also doesn't quite live up to some of the luxury boutique hotels in the area - they feel very standard hotel chain-ish. And there could be more touches in the room - like really nice luxury chocolates at turndown or better/more interesting toiletries. Otherwise it was a great night's stay and very professional and friendly staff. And the massage really was excellent!

Room Tip: Made sure to pay for a river view room and do think it is worth it to take full advantage of the hot...

We came here from the Conrad Hotel which we had a poor experience. I can tell you that Ritz-Carlton really knows how to treat customer! We were first greeted at the door by a manager, which already knew our name (came from the bellman that took our luggages in the cab). We were walked to the front desk which had already prepared our keys. We booked under American Express Platinum, Fine Hotels & Resorts program and we were upgraded to a Suite with view of the Statue of Liberty, including Club lounge access. The check-in was a breeze and a bellwoman took us to our room. The lady (which I'm sorry I forgot her name) was the one of the kindest person I've met in a hotel, she really took pride in her job. She took 20 minutes of her time to show us the whole suite, all the amenities, double bathrooms, where the bathrobes and slippers were, brought us some ice and explained the area a little bit. This is what great service really is! (Conrad Hotels should read Ritz-Carlton reviews to learn from it).

The corner suite was beautiful and very comfortable, you had a nice view of the statue of liberty and also the buildings around (they weren't very close as the next door street was quite wide, which improved the view). We went to the lounge to see what was available for breakfast and we were really pleased. The food was so good that we ate all 3 meals there and even got desserts at night! The only comment I have about the lounge is that it is facing the back of the hotel and not the front, which would have a nicer view. This stay really made Ritz-Carlton our first choice in hotel brand, when we travel.

There are little things that make Ritz-Carlton even greater, like the two curtains aren't on the same track, they overlap, which makes it impossible for the light to come in! What a great idea!

The sofabed was also the most comfortable one I've slept in, they actually put two down comforter, one on the mattress and one on top of the bed, making the bed super comfortable.

I've had a massage at the spa. Small but upscale spa, loved it!

I will definitely stay at this hotel the next time we are in NYC!

The weekend We spent at this glorious hotel was one of the highlights of our lives. We celebrated my wife's birthday on the club floor with a Statue of Liberty NY harbor view. The service on the club floor was outstanding, the food delicious and the view amazing. This is a wonderful way to spend a weekend !!!

Wonderful property that is newish by Manhattan standards (10 years old or so). I like Battery Park and how its developed and the hotel is situated in the centre of this area. Rooms are fair sized, large and tastefully appointed bars/eating areas, and excellent and helpful staff. Subways are about 5 minute walk, taxis pretty easy to come by. Unless you are working downtown, the hotel can be a longish trip to most points.

Stayed at the ritz carlton battery park for 4 nights for valentines and my 30th bday! Had reservations about the location but it suited us great only a short and cheap subway ride up to Times Square- plenty of restaurants, cafes etc in the area and so much more quiet and relaxing than Times Square which is bonkers!!! The room was lovely and spacious we had a fantastic view of lady liberty well worth the extra £60:-) beds are huge and the most comfortable I have ever slept in!!! Staff polite and helpful. Had room service on the first night as we were late checking in it was expensive but very nice. No coffee in the room but facilities every morning to grab one on your way out and hot chocolate on return in evening. I'm so glad we stayed in this area honestly the subway was so easy to use we only headed up manhattan for 1 day as we managed to do/see everything on our list so was happy we weren't staying in close proximity to Times Square which is so so busy and noisy. 9/11 memorial is a couple of blocks away, staten ferry trip a few mins walk along the front and boat trips around Brooklyn bridge etc all very close- we went to the Woodbury common shopping center $84 bus trip an hour out of manhattan well worth doing if u want some bargains but take super comfy shoes and a suitcase-the place is massive we spent 12hrs shopping there it nearly killed me:-/ would highly recommend the rockafella center for viewing the city over the ESB as its a timed ticket entry so ques are minimal and the view an equivalent the ESB ques are apparently ridiculous about 5 of them and takes ages! Also grab a shuttle bus from airport over private cab will save u $30-50 we didn't use a cab once while in New York spending only €20 on subways which took us where we needed easily.

Arrived to find that I'm upgraded into a room overlooking Liberty and Governor's Island. Room even had a spotting 'scope for close up views of the statue and incoming 'planes. Everything was just fantastic, with all of the staff greeting us warmly and even wishing my friend "Happy Birthday" as this was her surprise birthday treat. Just the perfect place to share a birthday.
Minor point, WiFi not free but perhaps not surprising for this standard of hotel.

Room Tip: get a room with the view of Liberty or if you can't afford it hope for an upgrade!

The hotel was very nice and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The bed was comfortable and the room was a nice size. I would say I hope you don't have to do any laundry, it was quite costly. I know that its a wonderful service they provide, but over 100.00 to wash a few items of clothing seems too high.
