“Little Treasure in Manhattan”

This is a very nice boutique hotel. Doormen always offer a warm welcome. Plenty of people around to assist you with anything from directions, getting a car or general questions on great places to eat. It's rather hidden with all of the construction but a great place to stay. Rooms are small but clean and beds are very comfortable. Love the 'turn down' service at night with the chocolate.

Conveniently located in Mid-Town Manhattan, good neighbourhood for walking and several sights within walking distance, notably Empire State Building three blocks away. Our double room de luxe was spacious and well kept. The hotel staff was helpful and service minded. We felt very much at home and will absolutely choose it again for the next trip

Room Tip: The ninth floor out of fourteen suited us very well

We ended up getting this hotel through one of those "secret hotel" deals and were extremely happy with the find. The staff was one of the friendliest, most helpful hotel staff I've had. They repeatedly made an effort to make sure that we were enjoying our stay---whether it be through pleasant smiles, happy hello's, chocolate on our pillows, or answering any one of our questions about the hotel or NYC. There was free wi-fi (that worked well) and free coffee/tea/water in the lobby. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated. The rooms were a little small, but it's NYC and expected. We asked for larger rooms (2 beds) and because the hotel was booked, we were unable to get one---however, we were offered a chance to get them for our remaining two days and we realized that our original rooms would suffice. (Plus, we didn't come to NYC to stay cooped up in the hotel. The hotel was centrally located, close to shopping and other attractions, as well as a couple of subway stations, but not in the midst of Times Square (so it was still a little quiet). I would highly recommend this hotel because of the friendly staff, central location, and clean rooms.

I too checked out the reviews before booking this hotel and all appears to be fairly accurate. So without repeating everything just wanted to summarise our feelings on this lovely hotel.
Room was a little small but its New York City so you pay for what you get really. Its a reasonably priced hotel in a very good convenient location. Staff were extremely friendly and have to say thank you to every staff member we came across. They are delightful and want to help where they can. We did have a couple of issues with our room, toilet not flushing properly and their hairdryer blew the electric circuit but both were rectified in reasonable time.
For a short stay, this hotel offers what you require. We were here 5 days. I don't think you can get better for the price. If you want to be further downtown then I would recommend the Cosmopolitan Hotel (Tribeca area) being a similar price but we wanted to be up by 5th Avenue and the shopping end this trip. Saying that NYC is so easy to get around its up to you how much you want to walk or get public transport. We would definitely stay here again. Wish we could go back now.

When Hotwire presented the final confirmation of this hotel, I was not happy with the address being on the east side. But, once I got to the hotel, I saw how convenient it was being only a few blocks from westside transportation!

I was impressed by the polite and professional staff, the cleanliness, the design and style of the hotel, the free coffee in the lobby, the fitness center and most importantly, the Hotel Chandler is equidistant from three Starbucks coffee shops!

One small drawback: I had a King-room, but the room was tiny; made me feel a little claustrophobic. Also, there was no view. From what I recall, I believe I was told that most of the rooms had no view.

One major negative: room service was over-priced. Juni has good food, but those prices were ridiculous.

Dear EricScottReed:

We are happy that you did enjoy our location! As we are right off 5th Ave we are actually in the middle of Manhattan as 5th Ave is the divider between EAST and WEST. As stated we are fortunate that only a short walk away you can get to both east side and west side subway lines actually making us very conveniently located.

I am sorry to hear that you felt room service was overpriced. As this menu is new to us and the restaurant just opened in August we value all feedback. We did thorough research on our pricing before opening and felt it was in line with similar type properties and restaurants. We will take your feedback in consideration so thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Martin

Nice hotel. Friendly staff. As previously mentioned - the rooms are a bit small, but it's expected for NYC. Great location - not a lot of street noise and in walking distance to Times Sq, etc. Free coffee and tea downstairs in the lobby, which was nice when you get back to the hotel. Also, free wifi and molten brown toiletries.

Would definitely come back and stay at the Hotel Chandler.

My wife and I have been lucky to stay in some of NYC's best hotels. From small boutiques to the larger big name luxury hotels. I had been searching for a good deal at a smaller hotel and came across Hotel Chandler. The TA reviews were pretty decent, so we figured we would give it a try.

The location is very good, especially if you want to be close to Times Square, the Empire State Building, and Penn Station. They are a very short walk away. Also, the subway is very close by at 33rd or 28th St. The street is relatively quiet with not much else happening. A couple of restaurants across the street and that's about it.

Arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by two doormen who took our bags inside. One of them was waiting with our bags while we checked in, but disappeared and we ended up taking our own things upstairs (I felt bad as I would have tipped the gentleman). Check in was fine with the staff acknowledging our special celebration. We requested a room on a higher level and were awarded it with ease. The desk staff explained how to connect to the free wifi.

While I checked in, my wife spoke with the concierge. He made reservations for us at a nice seafood restaurant and was very nice and helpful. The lobby is appointed nicely. Not much going on. We noticed the nice bar and some seating areas. Two elevators await you across from the front desk. (slow elevators are an understatement! or maybe I am used to fast elevators. but they REALLY seemed to drag)

Arriving in the room, we were a little shocked with the size (deluxe queen). But we have stayed in enough hotels to realize that room size only makes a difference if you are spending many nights in the same place. As this was a one-night retreat, it was fine. The bed is nicely appointed with great sheets and a nice down comforter. The tv is a little small, but again, we don't plan on watching too much of it when in NYC.

The bathroom looked beautiful. Very clean, excellent tile, and just was very nice. It was quite small though. It's strictly a one-person operation in there. The bathtub was clean and the shower head nice (was hoping for a walk in shower), but the tub did not drain properly, which is a big negative for my wife and I. Additionally, the bathroom fan did not work so it got a little steamy in there after about 2 minutes in the shower Finally, the most annoying bathroom item occurred at 7am, when we were still sound asleep. The toilet must have lost pressure or something because there was a loud noise coming from it that woke us up (very frustrating as we never get to sleep in and were so looking forward to the extra rest). We reported the issues to the front desk before we left so they could hopefully address them before anyone else stays in that particular room. We received a "thank you" for reporting the issues.

Check out at noon went smoothly. No issues there. While it wasn't a bad stay, it wasn't one of the greatest either. If we were going to be in the city for multiple nights, we would have checked out and headed to one of our regular haunts.

Pros:
Central Location
Clean
Comfortable Bed
Nice and welcoming staff

Cons:
Slow elevators
Small rooms and bathrooms
Plumbing issues
Small tv not mounted centrally

Would we go back? Maybe. Depends on the price and if we decide to stay in a larger room. But I probably won't rush back and will stick to our regular hotel choices next time until we see more consistency from the Chandler.

Room Tip: Request a room on a high floor when booking. It was dead silent on the 12th floor.

Dear michael95u:

Thank you so much for your very detailed review of the property. As it appears you did have an overall enjoyable stay but we failed to go above and beyond. I am happy that the concierge was able to make a suitable recommendation and that you did ask for assistance. Our building dates back to 1905 and even though several upgrades have clearly been made since then we do have an older charm about us vs. a modern brand new building.

We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you back,

Your sincerely,
Kate Martin
