Hotel Chandler was fabulous. Great location on 31st by 5th Ave. Newly renovated. Room we could actually walk around in (in NY that's a shocker or typically costs a fortune). Housekeeping was so sweet and thoughtful (cold medicine on our pillows since there was a cold snap earlier in the week). Friendly people. Helpful concierge. Just a great experience and I thought reasonably priced.
Nice bar. If you're a foodie, go to the restaurant (Zumi). If you just like to watch, sit in the bar, have a fantastic burger and watch the chef plate the food from the restaurant LIVE! Fun fun.

Room Tip: 1031 was the room - two double beds - good for friends traveling together.

What to say about the Hotel Chandler.. Absolutely fantastic!! Incredible staff. We were upgraded to the Chandler suite at no extra cost and it was great. A must for any guest seeking info and great suggestions is to speak to Charlie, the clef d' or concierge. The staff is very relaxed and easy to approach, they will do anything to make your stay memorable and welcoming. Our little daughter really loved the HC too and the staff accordingly. Definetely try breakfast at their Juni restaurant, the eggs are the best we have ever had, thank you Jeremy! Special thanks also to Lady Millie, Michael, George, Nancy and the rest of the team, including the doormen!all in all, great hotel, suberb location, very clean, staff very friendly and customer orientated, we recommend this hotel to everyone visiting NYC looking to find a very charming and warm hotel.

We stayed here for a week over New Years and simply can't say enough about Hotel Chandler. The location is convenient for touring and exploring Manhattan. The building facade, reception, bar, reading room and bedrooms are of a high quality and decorated beautifully and tastefully. The pictures do it a slight injustice. The free Wifi is also very convenient and strong even on the 7th floor. Complementary shoe shine too add to the list of services!

We had an issue with an over flowing toilet but the response from the staff was fantastic; they responded within minutes, fixed the issue and were very apologetic. The reception and concierge staff were so friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond for us to make our stay special. I left an item in my room after checking out and they rang when we got back to the UK to say that they would send it to me as soon as possible.

We've stayed in lots of hotels and felt this one stands out from the rest. Really great service!

Two small negatives: The air con system in the room was old and a little loud but cooling was not required in winter time as the rooms are naturally warm. And the check in time of 'guaranteed after 3pm' is bit late.

Dear John R:

Thank you for your wonderful review! We have shared your comments with our staff especially the concierge. I understand that a 3pm check in seems late but it is actually standard time in the US. We always try and accommodate earlier check in's especially if we know ahead of time the time of arrival. I can assure you its based on room availability at the time of arrival.

We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Sincerely,
Kate Martin

It's hard to fault this hotel.
It's a great location, off 5th, a few blocks from the Empire State Building and Macys, and near to the green line subway on 7th.
The staff were excellent and very considerate to our needs and we had quite a few! On arrival my pregnant wife asked for a room with a bath tub, but this was not possible as they only have a few. However, they say that if requested at booking they will do their best to arrange for it. Instead however, they upgraded us to an excellent room with a bigger bathroom and room to swing a cat, great for NYC. We had some teething problems with the room, like hot water coming out of the cold tap, a safe that didn't work (replaced), and a peculiar telephone system that we couldn't retrieve messages from, but the hotel dealt with these professionally and very quickly. The service was excellent, particularly the helpful concierge who found us somewhere to eat for Christmas Day at short notice, helped out with a walking tour and researched our onward trip to Boston.
We had ten very happy days here, with a very comfortable and large bed, great room service which daily replaced towels and bath products, and turned down beds at the end of the day.
The gym is small, adequate for a run or cross train, but strangely located on the second floor between guest rooms. I'd make sure you don't get a room next to it as the machines and huffing and puffing would be a nuisance.
We had an excellent breakfast the first day, but at $54 plus tip for the two of us we avoided the restaurant for the rest of our stay.
It appeared to us that many guests use the hotel as a 'stop over', so there was a high turnover of people. Staying for a longer period helped us connect with the staff, and so on returning from Boston the staff were very helpful and let us keep our bags at the hotel for a few hours while we had a final day in town before our return flight.
We would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: There was AC unit noise on the third floor facing into a courtyard/light well, but it only occasiona...

A very friendly welcome, upgraded to a bigger room, spotlessly clean, very friendly staff and great location. Extra touches like free tea and coffee (available 24 hours) and free wifi are appreciated. Would definately stay here again.

HC is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World which pretty much ensures that you will enjoy the extra quality and amenities that other hotels may not offer – such as exceptional towels and linens, bathrobes, designer bath products (Molton Brown), comfortable beds, nightly turndown service (complete with chocolates), complementary coffee in the lobby, free WIFI, mini bar/fridge (albeit rather expensive) etc. The staff are wonderful – courteous and friendly and the hotel overall is tasteful and comfortable.

We especially loved the location – just a few blocks from the Empire State Building. It is out of the madness of Times Square but within an easy (and safe) walk to most attractions. Close to Penn Station if you are arriving from Newark or travelling by train (easy walk - even at night), close to many coffee shops and restaurants, two convenience stores within a block (great if you want to avoid the rather pricy room amenities) steps away from the subway, and a (very) short stroll to Union Square, the flatiron district, Eataly, and Macy’s (just to name a few….).

Some of the rooms are very small so we asked to be moved to a higher floor and were pleased with the slightly bigger room and the additional light from the inside window (still no view). As other reviewers have noted – the higher the better….. The lifts can be a bit slow but the staircase is lovely and open, and this is in character with the hotel ambiance and it’s historical significance.

Would I stay again when visiting NYC? Hard to say – we certainly enjoyed our four nights at HC, loved the location and the quality amenities but the tiny rooms and the price (fair for Manhattan but no bargain) might keep me looking.....

Room Tip: The higher rooms seem to be a bit bigger and brighter.

Dear hdigabtt:

Thank you so much for your detailed recent review. I am so happy to hear that you appreciated some of our architectural details such as our beautiful open staircase. As we are a boutique hotel and our building dates back to 1905 our room types and room layouts do vary. I am happy we were able to move you to a room better suited.

We truly do hope you would come back and stay with us again.

Yours sincerely,
Kate Martin

Comfy bed great shower and awesome towels, robes and bath product. Small room (queen standard) which was expected for NYC. 24 hour tea and coffee in lobby was a nice touch. Lobby bar closes early around 10 pm. Our room which was on the third floor faced the street and was ridiculously loud with street noise till 2 am ish which was our only complaint.
