My husband and I just got back from a 4-day, 3-night stay at the Bryant Park Hotel. We had stayed there last year, and because we were impressed then, we decided to go back this year to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.

Our stay was even better the second time around! We had a magnificent corner room with an awesome view of beautiful Bryant Park, the New York Library, the incredible Bank of America building and even the Waterford crystal "ball" in Time's Square. At night the lights were amazing.

This is my first review, so I thought I would break it down into headings. Hope it helps.

      LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION:
The location is ideal. You are on 40th Street btwn 5th Ave and 6th Ave. Across from absolutely beautiful Bryant Park. In the centre of everything. Several subway entrances are located on the street itelf, as well as on the other side of the park. (fyi..at these entrances though, there is no machine to buy fares, so you have to have a MetroCard to ENTER there). Exiting is fine any time, and a very large subway where you can buy MetroCards is only a couple of blocks away.

The stunning New York Library is across the street, shopping is all around you (including Lord and Taylor around the corner and Macy's 3 blocks south). Rockefeller Plaza is 7 blocks North. Times Square is about 3 blocks West. Empire State Building is about 5 blocks South, and Grand Central Terminal about 5 blocks East. There are a couple of great cafe's/small eating establishments on the hotel block itself, and a nice market/deli next door where you can get fruit, drinks, chips, and prepared foods etc as well as excellent latte and a lovely crumb cake! Perfect

      ROOM
The room itself was not huge (we have stayed in larger in NYC), but it was plenty big enough. Room to get around comfortably, nice sitting area and, a HUGE bathroom. Drawback was mainly due to the fact it only had enough space (in the closet) to lay out one suitcase. We had 2 plus a carry-on, so once emptied, we stood 2 bags behind the door. If one really wanted, they could use the racks in the bathroom to lay out the suitcase(s). (Bathroom was that big!).

We chose a room with a separate tub and stand-up shower this time, as last year the standard tub/shower combo we had resulted in a bit of a flash-flood on the bathroom floor! (Think it had to do with combining a large shower head with a very flat tub border!). No such issue this year. The bathroom was beautiful, extremely spacious and spotless. Comby robes, lots of towels. The sink was large and had great table/benches on either side with a rack at the bottom. Lots of "his and her" room to say the least.

Bed was very comfortable with great linens and pillows. There was a turn down service every night that included complimentary slippers laid out for you next to the bed. Complimentary Wi-Fi in the room was a great bonus as well. Having the ability to check on restaurants/shops/transit/sights etc via your laptop free-of-charge comes in handy when staying in Manhattan.

Some of the other items that WERE available in the room: MP3 player docking station; Bose Radio; sliding lap-top tray in the closet, in-room safe, hair dryer, umbrella, lights on DIMMERS! The New York Post at your door each morning. Gotta love those hillarious Post headlines! They make for great breakfast reading and conversation!

Some of the items that were NOT available in the room (at least not in ours). Coffee machine, ironing board/iron, luggage rack. It didn't matter to us, but thought you should know.

Note to management....a few more clothes hangers are needed in the closet. Not enough.

      NOISE LEVEL
The hotel itself, (including the rooms and the hallways) is very quiet. You don't hear anything in the halls or from other rooms. There is none of that "frenzy" that seems to accompany many other Manhattan hotels. This year, because our room fronted 40th Street (by choice...wanted a park view), there was slightly more noise than last year when we had a room further back in the hotel, but it was not bothersome at all. You could barely tell there was construction going on in the park (setting up the skating rink) or that there was truck traffic that went with it. Yes, we were in our rooms primarily late at night and early morning when traffic was at its minimum, but they were working virtually round-the-clock in the park and it was still quiet. If you want no noise, just ask for a room further back in the hotel.

      SERVICE
This is what makes The Bryant Park Hotel so wonderful. The staff was superb. From the front desk (Robert is fantastic), to the concierge, to the bell-hops to the door men. All provided excellent, excellent service. On our first day, we came back to our room in the late afternoon and found a tray containing 2 flutes, 2 chocolates, and an ice bucket with a lovely chilled bottle of prosecco, to which was tied a helium "Happy Anniversary" balloon. An accompaning note stated it was compliments of the hotel. It was totally unexpected and very, very much appreciated. In addition, we were asked at various points during our stay, if we needed anything, if everything was suitable etc. We had a late flight and they held our bags the whole day and ensured a cab was ready to take us to the airport when we were ready. Perfect!

      AMMENITIES
The hotel has an on-site restaurant (Koi), meeting rooms, event venue and a fitness centre, but we didn't require or partake in any of them, so we cannot comment. We didn't eat at the restaurant as we don't tend to eat at hotel restaurants as a rule (so many other restaurant options in Manhattan) There is a complimentary happy hour for guests at the Cellar Bar between 5pm and 6pm. The Cellar Bar (great "gothic" atmosphere)does turn into a club in the evening (esp weekends), so we didn't frequent it at night.

      SUMMARY
A perfect hotel. Modern but without pretenses. Hip without attitude. Ideal for couples (very romantic) and singles of any age. Would not be my first choice for families with young children (space, ambiance), or much older seniors (darkish elevators, no grab bars in tub/shower), but for anyone else it is perfect!

Our stay at the Bryant Park was one of the highlights of our 30th anniversary trip to the magical city of New York.

Room Tip: Choose rooms higher than 7th floor to maximize view. All rooms quiet although rooms at back are quieter still given not facing 40th street.

At $525 USD a night, this is an expensive hotel even for NYC. The hotel caters more to the tourist than the business person. There is no coffee in the room (nor amenities like tooth brush). When I asked about a cup of coffee (for the early morning), they could do it for $10, but not at 05:00. When I went out the night before to get a cup to keep until morning, they said that was a good idea!. Interestingly, the plugs were loose (not holding the power cords well). There is a difference between minimalist and cheap. The furniture falls into the latter. The staff's replies were a bit arrogant, but that may just be my interpretation. Good location, and the bed is comfortable, but for that price much better options exist.

Room Tip: ask for a view facing the park.

My wife and I chose Bryant Park Hotel for a extended weekend get-away in October 2012. The first criteria was the fantastic location at Bryant Park between 5th and 6th avenue close to shopping, close to Times Square/Broadway and in walking distance to everything.
Bryant Park is however much more than location. They have their very own "funky style". Very modern and youthful with "good looking young staff" (kind of like Abercrombie only without the terrible loud music and bad perfume).
The cellar bar is very nice and as a special gimmick they offer free bar between 17-18 every day
Our superior rooms was a bit on the small side but guess thats NYC . . .
As an example of the high service then ice cubes in the rooms were filled and changed everyday in the evening by the staff
We did have a slight problem with our toilet and warm water but technicians where at our room within minutes after call front desk and problems where solved immediately
Bryant Park is not a business hotel as such but for a luxury getaway with friends, your wife, your lover . . . . it simply fantastic
My wife and I hope to be back in NYC and if possible at the Bryant Park Hotel again !

We are about to start next week yet another stay at this hotel. This hotel is wonderful, but not just for the hip and trendy and young. While I do think of myself as having some hip both my husband and I have white hair. The views from the rooms decorated in modern minimal fashion are magnificent-the wonderful Bryant Park. The hotel is in an ideal location but because it is near the park , in the mid city but it is a bit of an oasis from the hub bub and noise of the city. Looking for something to do the hotel will help or just walk to the park and watch financiers and corporate groups play bocci. Or stroll to the international photography museum. Hungry for a quick bite many easy restaurants near by and the hotel has its own bar full of life. Next door is an excellent pan asian restaurant and the fabulous Bryant Park Grill 2 minutes away.Did I mention the service? Warm, bright helpful and in good humor. The managers also warm and accessible .Okay, yes I am a baby boomer we a a lawyer and artist/psychologist and this is our go to retreat when we want to get away to have a haven in the city while partaking in the good food and arts of Manhattan . Having traveled Europe a lot, I expect Europeans would love it as well.

Nice boutique hotel and very clean. Great midtown location for business and I would come back for a couples weekend stay. Just on the fringe of the theater district and Times Square and blocks away from 5th ave. shopping. Only point out during my stay (not a compliant) is that the rooms are a bit on the smaller side.
