The Bryant Park Hotel exceeded every expectation I had - and they were high after the other reviews I read! At check-in we were upgraded from a Superior room to a Junior suite on the 21st floor - for free!! We had an amazing view of the city. Location is perfect - less than 10 minute walk to Times Square without the chaos of being in the middle of it all. Bryant Park is a great spot as well, with tons of shops and food (free samples!) and a free ice skating rink in winter ($14 skate rental). The room was gorgeous. Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, more than enough room for two people (especially for a New York hotel). The staff was friendly and helpful, giving us great recommendations (we went to their suggested breakfast spot twice because it was so good!). They were very helpful in check out as well, and let us keep our bags their for hours and offered help in obtaining transportation to the airport. They even had water bottles at check out for our travels.

Nothing beats the vibe of the hotel, which you cannot adequately describe in a review. Even the elevator had a romantic vibe. It truly made the weekend feel like an escape. Definitely a location for couples, not families. We never had the chance to check out the cellar bar, but from the line to get in (guests skip the line), it seemed like a hot place on the weekend. Well worth the price. I hope to visit again.

We were pleased to spend last weekend in this really lovely hotel. The location could not be better. Every single member of the staff we encountered greeted us with a smile and a friendly word. We were in town because we had tickets to Saturday Night Live and were very excited. The staff really shared our enthusiasm. It was our second visit to the hotel. We are fairly well traveled and appreciate a small, very clean, efficiently run hotel. The staff here clearly love their jobs and it really shows.

And we really love the interior. Clean modern and very comfortable.

We'll be back again! Can't wait

A weekend Facebook post from the Bryant Park Hotel in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, words to the effect that their staff had not worked and that the hotel had no guests, made me realise that I'd not written the positive review of this hotel that I'd meant to pull together after our stay in April of this year.

My wife and two daughters (5 and 4) spent a week at the Bryant Park Hotel after a fortnight enjoying theme parks in Orlando. The original intention of the stay in New York was to be a week spent enjoying the city, doing more 'adult' things after two weeks of the comparative unreality of Florida. As it happens, our two girls enjoyed endlessly walking round Manhattan and Brooklyn every bit as much as we did. Their prior knowledge of New York's unique topography has been informed by the number of pictures, prints and books about the city in our house and from seeing landmarks in films. But one of the things that made their enjoyment of New York so strong was the hotel itself.

The Bryant Park Suite we had overlooking Bryant Park in the former American Radiator Building was modern, clean, spacious and functional, without feeling too minimal. My eldest daughter slept on the day bed in the window of the lounge while my youngest slept on a foldaway bed a good few feet away. Despite the lounge being converted into a kids' bedroom, it remained spacious and uncluttered throughout our stay, and we made good use of the sofas and dining table, including one night eating take-out pizza from John's at Times Square, and occasional breakfast pastries from Pret or the patisserie across the other side of the park. Every morning and evening the kids would rush to the window to look out at the huddled skyscrapers of Midtown, the changing colours of the spire of the Bank of America tower, the deep canyon of Fifth Avenue and the people sitting .at tables in the park or at the long benches visible through the windows at the rear of the Library. To say they were enthralled by New York's vibrancy would be a gross understatement, and we would all go to sleep at night with the city's buzz pleasantly in our ears.

If the suite was perfect enough, our stay was made all the better by the staff at the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel from JFK, we were greeted at the door by Ryan, with whom we spoke every day, talking about what we were going to be doing that day and his readiness for and apprehension over the birth of his daughter; at the desk we were checked in by Chase, a really friendly guy who went out of his way to greet us with a smile and a massive good morning every day we saw him; and then there was Sarah at guest services who my youngest daughter struck up a friendship with and who she would rush to see whenever we passed through reception, Sarah on the last day fussing over the American Girl dolls my two girls had twisted my arm to buy. These three people were among the friendliest we've ever encountered as a family, and the fact that I still remember them so fondly six months on is testament to that. I can't thank them enough for how welcoming and friendly they were - particularly in a trendy hotel that's not necessarily best-known as a destination for families with two small and very excited children.

The Bryant Park is not a cheap hotel, but then again nowhere is in New York. Nevertheless, its location right in the centre of Midtown, effortless stylishness and general atmosphere are worth paying for. I took one trip to the basement bar and the crowd on a midweek evening was a cool mix of office workers and über-hip young adults; one evening we came back from a long day's schlepping round the streets to find a huge queue at the door of the hotel. After skipping right past the line thanks to being residents, we asked what was going on. The security guard, an intimidating but cheerful guy, told me there were two events that evening, an NFL Draft party and a private fashion show up in the penthouse. At the time it seemed perfectly normal, both for New York and for the Bryant Park, but looking back now it seems otherworldly.

Staying a week in New York is, it seems, relatively uncommon. People tend to spend a weekend or a few days and strike the main landmarks off the 'must-do' list. After our week-long stay and our return to the UK, we resolved to go back again, feeling like we had what we've described as 'unfinished business' in the city, and will be heading back to Manhattan again next May. For us it would be unimaginable not to stay at the faultless Bryant Park Hotel again, and so that's exactly where we will be heading to next year. It cannot come soon enough.

Once again, my thanks to the staff mentioned above for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Choose a suite that overlooks the park.

This is a great hotel. Beautiful. Clean. Staff are wonderful. Great location. I had a wonderful time. I was there on business and the place is quiet and private. I would go back here again all the time. A gem!

This was our first trip to NYC. To do all the tourist stuff, eat the local food, drink the local drink, shopping and see all the sites in New York even had a Helicopter tour lined up for my wife’s birthday, it was going to be ‘great’.
When we arrived at the Bryant Park Hotel we were acknowledged by every member of staff on duty in the foyer, which was nice as you felt welcomed and feeling that they were glad to see us.
Our room was already booked as part of a package, we were offered a up grade (at a little extra cost) which we took up and glad we did, the view from our suite on the twelfth floor was WOW we could even see the lights in Times Square. On our first night in the hotel a maid knocked on our door for the turn down service, we declined, but she gave us a handful of chocolates anyway, nice,
On our second night in NYC Hurricane Sandy hit, and at about 8.30 all the electric went off in the hotel and all the surrounding area, a member of staff came to our room and explained what was happening, gave us emergency lighting, and told us that they were available if we needed anything.
We just feel asleep and didn’t hear a thing of the ongoing Hurricane, good sound proofing or just a bit jet lagged?
On the following day all the water service in the hotel went down, so we decided to move to a hotel not affected by the Hurricane. The Front Office Manager phoned round several hotels in New York, and found us a hotel with vacancies on Lexington Avenue, we were very grateful to him for doing this.
We didn’t have the best trip to New York, as everything was closed and no transport was running. We intend to go back to NYC and finish what we started, in the new year, I think we will go back to Bryant Park Hotel, not only for it’s great location, but we were impressed by the professionalism of the staff at the Bryant Park.

Room Tip: If you get the chance to over look Bryant Park, go for it, good views and quiet.

The locaton is great, next to Bryan Park, and is quiet. The window in the room is small. The bed is small for 2 persons, but comfortable. Free USA Today newspapers. Check in and out is quick. Staff is friendly. Not a hotel for family. My room key card failed every 2 days - reason unknown.

When we first arrived at the Bryant Park the staff were so welcoming and helpful, they upgraded us straight away into a larger room overlooking the Bryant Park, the rooms were clean and amazing, turn down service at night and even prepared your slippers at the side of the bed with chocolates on your pillow, Afternoon happy hour every day which hotel guests paid nothing at all. The location was close to everything that we wanted to see but was still quiet and small enough to be personal. The hotel concierge were also extremely friendly, opened all doors coming into the hotel and pressed for the lift. Gave us information about the city and advised us what to do and what not to do, which was extremely helpful for us being first time to New York. Can only recommend this hotel highly. You will enjoy.

Room Tip: We stayed overlooking the Bryant Park on the 5th floor and found this room to be quiet, also didnt h...
