Lovely hotel centrally located off Madison. Room are small but you expect that in Manhattan. The highlight is the sitting room which is an oasis of calm where you can relax after a busy day. At 5.30pm free wine and cheese was served which was really appreciated. It was like returning to a cosy sitting room. Good breakfasts and book theme worked well. A welcome antidote to large chain hotels.

We stayed for two nights in December. Great location, Great staff, and Great amenities. Take the opportunity to walk to the NYC Public Library, Grand Central Station, Bryant Park (Ice Skating). Only negative is the bed was very uncomfortable. Our friends were staying on another floor, but they had the same complaint. We have stayed in a sister hotel "The Casablanca" (off Times Square) and it is stellar in all aspects (but was booked for our visit).

Room Tip: Take advantage of the 2nd floor reading room for sharing a quiet evening with friends.

Stayed here for two nights before going home for Christmas because a friend recommended it and it lived up to its praise. The room was an excellent size for Manhattan and intelligently designed and appointed. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was delicious...I'll definitely come back and recommend it to other friends as well.

We stayed three nights at this lovely hotel, celebrating an early Christmas with our children. We occupied a junior suite, deluxe and petit rooms. They all are quite nice, but I will admit the petit rooms are very small and better suited to one person. They have a room on the 2nd floor where breakfast and a cocktail hour is provided every day. The staff in this room are very attentive to guests. The location is fantastic. You can really walk everywhere, just bring good walking shoes. There is a delicious mediterranean restaurants right around the corner which I highly recommend. Also, they have a intimate bar/lounge on the 14th floor. The weather was warm enough for us to sit outside on Saturday night! Overall, an enjoyable stay. We will visit again.

Room Tip: Ask if there are any rooms that have quieter eating systems. Some rooms may be noiser.

We stayed here back in September and we loved it so much, we tried again. Our memory did the hotel justice and everything was as remembered. There was one glitch, our room was very hot. NYC was hot as well, and as such the heating system needed to be turned off. The first night that we were there we called down twice to tell them this. as a result we turned off the system completely and opened our windows. The following day, it was still too hot, we went down to the desk to see what could be done. A lovely man said he would give us a fan, since the windows open was not doing it. The fan was a great help. Later, we had a follow up phone call saying the air conditioner would be placed on. Following this another hotel employee came up to check our vent and check the system. They really did do their very best to remedy the problem. The breakfast, snacks, and wine and cheese were wonderful. We will be back in a couple of months.

Booked by our son as a present, we didn't quite know what to expect. Well, it exceeded all our expectations!
Clean, comfortable and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were there when needed, always attentive, but never in your face.
A wonderful stay and one we will remember with great warmth.

My wife is a book geek, so when I saw this hotel, I knew we had to stay here. We were not disappointed. The staff are the friendliest people I have ever met at a hotel. Anything you need, they will help you with. I had originally booked one of the smaller rooms because nothing else was available. When we arrived, we were told we got a free upgrade to one of the larger rooms. We ended up with the law room which is on the third floor right at the front corner. We could see both ways down Madison Ave and look up 41st to see the library. It had a king size bed and a small seating area right by the front windows. Just perfect.
The location of the hotel is perfect too. It is a relatively short walk to Central Park, Times Square, Empire State Building and many other major landmarks. If you need to go further, you are only a block from Grand Central Station.
We will definitely be coming back. This will be the go to hotel for my wife and I.
Only tip I have is you might want the ear plugs or the soothing sounds headphones from the front desk. Since NYC is the city that never sleeps, it is also the city that is never quiet. The garbage trucks run at night and can make quite a bit of noise. And the cabbies never stop honking their horns.
