Have just returned from a fantastic six night stay at this hotel and was very impressed with pretty much everything. We had a 'Deluxe room with Queen Bed' - and although the room wasn't particularly big it was ample and the bed really comfortable. The staff were superb, really went out of their way to be as helpful as they possibly could be - going above and beyond. The included continental breakfast was great - a nice informal way to eat in the mornings whilst looking out over Madison or up towards the NYC Library. The prosecco and cheese available early evening was also very welcome and a nice touch.
We found the location really great and were able to explore lots of the city by foot but also by subway.

Room Tip: Our room on the 4th floor was nice and quiet - never saw or heard another guest on this level, but m...

Junior suites are a good size, roof bar great in spring and the free happy hour every day. Perfect location for shows and the park. The staff are all very helpful and friendly . This is the second time we've stayed and we will stay again.

I have stayed in many NY hotels for leisure and business, and this comes closest to my favourite so far. But for a couple of niggles, it would be my "go-to" no matter what. As it is, it is the first hotel I check for availability and pricing.
Parts I really liked: comfortable beds; helpful staff (particularly the ladies at breakfast who are superb); the included continental breakfast has all the things I want and is fresh and tasty; the snacks available through the day and tea and coffee are easily accessible and convenient; the number of rooms are enough to be personal, but not so few as to lack a full service offering. Location is great, walkable to anywhere in midtown.
The niggles: the reception is very unattractive - I know it is constrained by being an older building, but surely something could be done to make it feel less dated and unwelcoming? I dislike the rooftop bar - it could be much nicer but the decor is tired, it is very noisy for any rooms on the top two floors, and the table service is slow. The rooms are small even for NY, the lowest level of room is only suitable for one person (they do note this on the website however).
Great hotel on balance.

Room Tip: I would aim for one around the middle floors, above street noise but away from the rooftop bar. The...

Book lovers, rejoice! This is YOUR home-away-from-home. The Library Hotel lives up to its name, its location on "Library Way", its proximity to the New York Public Library. It's filled with books on every floor and each guest room's shelves are stocked with choices culled from the room's appointed slot from the Dewey Decimal System. The staff will even send you off with your choice of book for your journey home. If you are not a book lover, never fear; there are plenty of choice amenities which still might make the Library Hotel a very attractive option for your stay.

I liked the hotel's concept, so booked myself for the weekend. When I arrived, I received friendly greetings from all on duty and was promptly checked in. My room was on the Literature floor; I was pretty thrilled at this, until I got to my room, which was Poetry. Probably would have been my last choice. The Erotic Literature room sounded far more interesting. At any rate, all that was affected were the types of books stocked on the shelves.

Let's get the irritants out of the way. The Library's two elevators were incredibly slow. The air circulation and water pipe systems were loud. The hotel's address is on Madison Avenue, but most of the narrow building fronts 41st Street. I can't say that the view from my two windows was spectacular or even a little bit interesting and I'm not sure the rooms which actually face Madison Avenue fare much better. That's all.

I had booked a petite room; at 200 sq ft this was the smallest room in the Library's inventory. However, the size and arrangement of the furnishings meant the room did not feel cramped at all. The bed was a full size and was pretty darn comfortable. The pillows were soft but not limp or too mushy; there was another pair in the closet. Aside from the closet, there were also several drawers available for storage. The room was very clean. Amenities included a robe, slippers, umbrella, hair dryer, in-room safe, DVD player, free bottled water, and the thrice-cursed over-priced snack tray and stuffed-to-the-gills, hyper-sensitive mini-refrigerator. There was also a TV; I think an iPad has a larger screen. The sink was located outside of the bath area and had just enough counter space for my things; people who travel with a full range of face and hair products might think otherwise. The towels were of good thickness and excellent absorbency. The shower's water pressure wasn't set to full blast but was far from a dribble. Toiletries were courtesy of Gilchrist & Soames.

The Library's location in Mid-town is pretty stellar. Subway stops are nearby and there is Grand Central Terminal a block away. In under 30 minutes one can walk to the aforementioned Public Library and Bryant Park, Penn Station/Madison Square Garden, Times Square and the Broadway theaters, Central Park, or the tony shops on Madison and 5th Avenues.

Getting back to the inside of the hotel - The staff were all very warm and accommodating to guests. There were thoughtful touches everywhere with guests' comfort and enjoyment in mind. Such as the free books. Personal hygiene items were available in case a guest forgot to pack that toothbrush. Earplugs and something termed as 'ear pillows' could be requested to combat the noise of traffic or the rattle of the air-con. The Library also stocked DVDs for guests to borrow. And there was a ton of free food! A quite complete continental breakfast buffet, snacks all day, and wine and cheese in the evenings were offered. Guests could fuel up for a day of sightseeing, shopping and noshing, then return to nibble a bit in the late afternoon to recover energy before going out again to brave the masses in Times Square or to hit the "proper" dinner time at a hot restaurant.

The Library Hotel is a lovely place to stay when visiting Manhattan; I'll have a difficult time to justify to myself to stay anywhere else.

The Library Hotel offered one of the smoothest services I have ever experienced. Their attention to detail was superlative and the facilities were spot on.

They just went top of my list of favourite hotels and they just raised the bar of what a great hotel experience should be.

The Reading Room on the second floor offers non-stop coffees and pastries all day long. Breakfast is served in this room and in the evening it also offers wine and cheeses.

There is an excellent roof-top bar and the hotel is located in an ideal location between the Grand Central Terminal and Times Square.

We will certainly return to this hotel when we visit New York.

A group of us stayed at Library Hotel several nights to celebrate a family birthday. What a cute place and loved the book/Dewey decimal theme. The staff was so courteous, too. Close to Grand Central Station with all the cute shops, etc. Complimentary breakfast each morning with a fairly good variety and they also did a wine and cheese serving in the evening. Two minor complaints: (1) too dark in the bathroom for adequate makeup (but the big magnifying mirror was nice and appreciated). I think the lights just weren't spaced correctly. More from overhead and not enough from the side. (2) Though I'm not short, I had a hard time reaching the room safe. It was way over my head (I'm 5"6"). The bed was super comfy!

This hotel is a real gem but why? It has a great personality and terrific staff who are truly helpful and responsive. Our suite on the 12 floor was cozy and restful. The midtown location is 5 mins walk to Grand Central so you can get anywhere, quickly. After an exhausting day of sightseeing or shopping with reservations for dinner at 20:00 what do you do in between? You recharge by enjoying the good wine and lovely nibbles on offer, gratis, between 18:00 and 20:00. Without hesitation you’d recommend this place to family and associates alike.

Room Tip: Go for higher floors and a suite
