I am not a play or musical fan at all, but I had to make the trip to NYC to see this show since I love the movie and the music from it. This was not the typical Broadway show. We heard about the pre-show gathering the audience is allowed to do on stage, so we made sure to go to the theater early. Once we got in, we made our way to stage, where there was a bar. After a few minutes, the ensamble of the show came out, instrument and full costume, and did a variety of irish and folk songs. It was great! They kept playing while the audence made its way to their seats and when everyone was seated, the lights dimmed and the character of "boy" came out singing. It was a great transition to getting the show started. Anyone who is a fan of the movie will enjoy the new take on this show. it keeps true to the movie. it is not glitzy and is very raw. One stage setting and they work around it. No extravegent sets or costume changes. It deserved every award it received at the Tonys!
