Owner description: Once is the celebrated new musical based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. Brought to the stage by an award-winning team of visionary artists and featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians, once is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty... and unforgettable in every way.

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2012

I am not a play or musical fan at all, but I had to make the trip to NYC to see this show since I love the movie and the music from it. This was not the typical Broadway show. We heard about the pre-show gathering the audience is allowed to do on stage, so we made sure to go to the theater early. Once we got in, we made our way to stage, where there was a bar. After a few minutes, the ensamble of the show came out, instrument and full costume, and did a variety of irish and folk songs. It was great! They kept playing while the audence made its way to their seats and when everyone was seated, the lights dimmed and the character of "boy" came out singing. It was a great transition to getting the show started. Anyone who is a fan of the movie will enjoy the new take on this show. it keeps true to the movie. it is not glitzy and is very raw. One stage setting and they work around it. No extravegent sets or costume changes. It deserved every award it received at the Tonys!

“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2012

The moment you enter the theater, you are welcome by the actors playing music. You can even go to the the stage a purchase a drink. The stage is very simple, yet very welcoming, so you concentrate in enjoying the performance of great actors/musicians. This superb production deserves 100% having the Tony last night. I strongly recommend buying the CD. Is contains wonderful music which you are not got to get bored in hearing it. This production is in my top 5 list for my next visit to NYC.

“A great production”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

This is definitely a gem of a production that's worth seeing. My only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is that the theatre allowed latecomers in throughout the whole of the first half. It was difficult to concentrate and engage when ushers were going up and down the aisles and disrupting audience members, getting them up and down in order to seat latecomers.

Great music though and fantastic acting.

“Unique play”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2012

Not the run of the mill broadway play with the usual too loud singing, polished faces and hokey drama. A play for those who appreciate originality and drama portraying a possibilty of truth. Just go and see it. Not a rip off for a change. Most of the seats are good, small theatre.
