Quite good but could be better

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Mar 2011
Stayed here as I was on a training course just round the corner. There are some great places to eat within walking distance.

The rooms are nice and big as well as very clean.

The only things that let this place down is the staff and the breakfast.

There is no hot breakfast at all. Just bagels, toast, cereal and some stale tasting pastries. The staff were not very friendly. Every time I asked them anything, it appeared that I was not as important as whatever they were doing at the time.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your impression from your visit; we are always attentive to feedback which would allow us to impress our guests even more in the future. Our staff is always attentive and courteous emphasizing the efficiency of a small busy downtown hotel and our clients are guests in our home. We are a first class hotel without food and beverage operation which explains the lack of hot breakfast but we do offer a continental breakfast complimentary to all of our guests.

Once again, we appreciate you taking the time to share your comments with us. We know you have many choices in lodging and we hope that you will continue to choose The Wall Street Inn for your future visit to New York City.

Loved this place. Rooms were on the small side, even though they upgraded us to a king corner room (free upgrade because it was my birthday). Room was spotless, bed was huge and very comfortable, sheets and pillows were soft. The hotel is ideally located near good bars, a convenience store and a short walk to the staten island ferry. Its away from the main hustle and bustle, but only a short walk from the subway. We enjoyed being away from the tourists and in an area where people were working - it felt more real than the manic times square. The breakfast was good and plentiful (continental style), but there are only 3 tables so you may need to make sure you get a table or come back. Staff were helpful and polite. Taxi driver couldn't find it though and we ended up paying 80 dollars from Newark (standard 62 dollars plus toll charges) - I refused to tip him as he drove around Manhatten for at least 30 mins and didn't have a map with him or any clue where he was going! Lovely, small hotel and so much better than a chain.

we had great service. we showed up about 10:30 am and were able to check in as our room was ready for us. we really liked the receptionist who was there for the day shift, she always greeted us with a smile. she told us where to find lunch and how to find the subway. we were able to store our luggage there after we checked out until we were ready to go to the airport, then she called the car service they use.
the cleaner always said hi when she saw us in the hall.
they should upgrade their double beds to queens, i had a good sleep but my feet were hanging off the end of the bed. it was a nice cozy room. the bathroom was nice and had a nice big tub.
the breakfast offered was hard boiled eggs, cereal, toast, bagels and pastries. there was also a wide assortment of teas, coffee, orange juice, milk and water.
there are lots of places to eat around the hotel although some werent open while we were there.
sat and sun it was quiet there, monday it was very busy.
its just a short walk from this hotel to battery park, the free staten island ferry (make sure you check that out, its a free ride by the statue of liberty) and many other places.

After having made the reservation we got a little concerned about the location. We thought it would be too desolated. But when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. There are many restaurants and bars in the neighborhood and various subway lines are close by. We were in room 306 which was very nice and spatious. We did have a problem with the plumbing but that was quickly fixed by housekeeping. We found the staff very nice and helpful and look forward to our next stay at the wall street inn.

The Wall St Inn is undoubtedly a hidden gem, tucked away almost as far downtown as you can get, in a little enclave of restaurants and bars nestling beneath the financial district's tower blocks. Don't expect anything too fancy, but rooms are clean and bright, value is great (especially on a weekend rate deal) and location is unbeatable. The self service breakfast can get a little crowded but that's a minor quibble.
