“Great first trip to NYC.”
Reviewed 20 April 2011

This hotel is away from the noisy heart of the city but still within easy reach of everything, with subway stations right outside. It is opposite the World Trade Center, a great location and it was wonderful to see the progress being made daily in this poignant and unforgettable site. Having said this, if there was construction noise at night (and apparently there was)it had no effect on our sleep. The beds were very comfortable and the room had a great two- aspect view. They were very clean, consistently restocked and the bathroom large enough for two people not to have to fight for the mirror. There was always plenty of hot water. There's a coffee making machine, a large TV and comfortable chairs - although how much time do you spend in a room in a city such as New York?
We had room service at 1.30AM, when my son arrived from Canada - a ridiculous time to eat and we were told it would be half an hour but was much faster. He had New York strip and I had a salad that would have fed about 5 people- really delicious.
The staff on the front desk were always very helpful, polite and friendly ;giving info on the subway, how to get to places using the fastest route, and where to eat. Hotels in the UK need lessons on this!!
We used the pool, which was comfortably warm and and the changing rooms were clean and well stocked with toiletries.
Starbucks was next door and a deli across from it. Century 21 is also nearby and too easy to pop into every day.
It's a short walk to the Brooklyn Bridge and not too far to Battery Park and the Staten Island ferry.
Everything about our stay in this hotel was positive and we hope to be able to stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for his birthday on a Saturday night and we had an extremely mixed bag of experiences. Here is the breakdown:
PROS:
-Location: If you like downtown NYC this is the perfect location. The hotel is located directly across the street from the new Liberty Tower complex and a few blocks from Wall Street and Battery Park. The subway station is 30 feet from the front entrance of the hotel and if you drive in (like we did) the hotel is located a block away from the West Side Highway and a short distance from the Holland Tunnel. If you are flying into JFK or LaGuardia the hotel is right over the Brooklyn Bridge and/or the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.
-Service Staff: The maids and maintenance men were very helpful and provided us with solutions to our hotel problems (see below). The maid staff was so nice that once they heard it was my boyfriend’s birthday they left us two breakfast vouchers and a box of chocolates with a "Happy Birthday" note.
-Room: Our room was newly renovated and immaculately clean with plenty of towels and pillows. I usually always have to request more towels and there were three large and many smaller ones. Also, the bath products were Crabtree & Evelyn, so they were good quality if you don't want to bring your own bath products from home. (no toothpaste though...lol).
View-Even though the hotel sits directly across the street from ground zero we had a great view of the water through Battery Park. All rooms facing the street give you a nice view of the Hudson River and all the rooms facing the side will give you a view of the Statue of Liberty and waterways (I figure this specific view is for floors 20 and higher because the building next store is pretty short).

CONS:
Reservation & Requests: I booked this room directly through the Hilton website and got a wonderful deal ($189). Because of this deal when they offered an upper floor upgrade on the webpage after my confirmation I immediately jumped on it for an additional 18.99(An upper floor upgrade is considered any room above the 30th floor. The hotel has 55 floors and from what I have read if you are on a lower floor you get a significant amount of noise from the ground zero construction). Between the time of the reservation and day of arrival I called the hotel twice to confirm the upgrade and requests we made. We needed to request foam pillows and blankets because of allergies and a room on an upper floor. Upon arrival the front desk claimed that they had not received any of these requests, so the maid staff had to be inconvenienced by having to change all the bedding. Also, AND VERY IMPORTANT, the upper floor room upgrade is NOT GUARENTEED. The front desk employee was a bit rude in explaining that we can only get an upper floor upgrade if the rooms are available. So, even if you request an upper room they technically don't charge you the 18.99 until you get there and if the room is available. I thought they charged us already and we were guaranteed an upper floor. We were pretty lucky though because we were on the 30th floor, which is the highest level of the "lower" rooms.
Room Temperature & Thermostat: I know this is an odd topic but when we entered our room it was a bit muggy and warm so I automatically went to the thermostat and turned the air conditioning on and assumed that the room would cool off quickly (like most hotels). After an hour and a half the room was still muggy and warm so I called down to the front desk and they sent up a maintenance staff member. When the gentleman got to our room he explained that during the winter/spring months the hotel "NEUTURALIZES" the air system, meaning that they turn off the chiller for the conditioning unit. So, he showed us how to open the windows and told us the room would cool off that way. Unfortunately, our window made a terrible buzzing sound every time the wind got heavy (which for the city is very frequent). So, when maintenance came back up they put caulking in the window and said that should be fine. Also, management is able to turn the chillers on in each room and they refused too for us.
Extras: Most hotel rooms come with a refrigerator; this hotel charges you to rent one. Also, the hotel parking was $55 for the night (which is pretty normal but still high). There was no free continental breakfast, we got free vouchers from the maid but the food was TERRIBLE. If you can avoid the hotel breakfast please do so.
Noise from Ground Zero: The hotel staff is pretty rude about this. Obviously, there is no way to avoid hearing the construction noise because they work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week because they are behind schedule. While the hotel does provide ear plugs I found that if you request a higher floor you don't hear any noise. Plus, with your air unit running it helps drown out any additional noise also.

All in all I would stay here again. It was the best price I have ever gotten in the city for a nice hotel. I don't like being nickeled and dimed for everything but when we needed help the service staff were professional and nice.

I decided to stay here on during a recent visit to NYC because a lot of the activities I wanted to do were found in Lower Manhattan. This may not be the case for most people but you are just a "E" or an "R" train away from Midtown and both stations are located within steps of the lobby.

This hotel was priced better on almost every website when compared to hotels in Midtown and in some cases a hundred dollars cheaper than hotels located in Times Sq. It is also very up to date and looked extremely modern inside and out.

Our room was facing the WTC construction and I hardly heard anything during the evenings. We stayed over a weekend so I'm not sure if there is a difference during the weeknights.

Hurry up and stay here while the prices are lower as I can see the costs going up once construction is done.

Great hotel, will definitely stay here next trip

On behalf of the Millenium Hilton, we would like to thank you for sharing both your photos and your feedback from your recent stay. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Lower Manhattan and that you were able to work your way around the Subway system.. It is quite convenient, I agree. We look forward to your next visit to NYC and hope that you will once again choose the Millenium Hilton as your home away from home.

Nice, modern and friendly hotel. Lifts are efficient. Rooms are nice. I had a spacious Junior Suite. With views down into the WTC site from Level 37. Ask for a room that looks over the WTC site and you will also get a great view of Jersey City and the Hudson River.

No free wi-fi in rooms, however you can access wi-fi for free on Level 3 and in the Foyer. If you have a laptop that you can connect a cable to it from your room then you will have access to paid Internet. Alternatively, you can access free Internet at the nearby Burger King or McDonalds.

There are no laundries on site. There is a small shop that has essentials, but it is expensive. The breakfast is nice and fresh, but is a bit pricey if you order off the menu, best go for the buffet for $27.50.

If coming from JFK, take the AirLink train to Jamaica Station then the E line all the way to the WTC Station, exit the Subway on Church St and the hotel is about 20 steps from the top of the Subway stairs - easy, and only $7.25 for the entire trip from JFK !!! It takes about 45 mins from Jamaica Station. Trains were all on time, very clean and very safe.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks over the WTC site.

On behalf of the Millenium Hilton, we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your very useful comments. I am sure the MTA would also thank you for your positive feedback regarding your subway ride. That is quite a savings from the traditional yellow cab. With regard to internet, we are currenlty in the process of upgrading our current wireless service to also include the guestrooms. Thank you again for sharing your travel hints with all our future guests and we hope that you will once again make us your hotel of choice on your next visit to NYC,

This hotel is brilliant, the staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a very warm welcome.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in!!
There is some noise from the building work, but you soon forget about it, ear plugs are provided, but we didnt need to use them.
Very ideal location, you can walk to everything, or use the underground.
We found the bar at the hotel was abit expensive, but there are obviously lots and lots of bars and restaurants to go to outside the hotel.

Would absolutely stay here again!

P.S. Century 21 is worth a visit! lots of bargains!!

This is the place I like to stay when in NY for a weekend. It's downtown in the financial district, so usually caters to the weekday business crowd. Weekends rooms are often deeply discounted..the jr suites are very nice and can sometimes be had for under $200.
It's away from the tourist attractions of mid-town, but near the subway and a nice walk to the seaport, china town and soho.

First, this isn't a hotel in the heart of tourists. It is located across for the WTC and near Wall Street. Busy yes. Times Square no.

That being said, it is by plenty of subway stops so it is easy to get in and out.

The hotel is a tall (55 floors) and skinny hotel. It feels modern and the rooms are nice. I had a small corner suite but the room felt large because of the large windows. The bathroom was nice size with plenty of room.

Downsides: the hotel is in the process of upgrading the Internet so not all of the floors have Internet. Also, the construction at WTC does create some noise. I was on the 32nd floor and didn't hear enough to be bothered. However, I would imagine a lower floor might get some extra noise.

If you are looking for a hotel on this side of NYC it is worth a look. The views are great and it is a modern hotel.
