“A wonderful stay in the heart of FiDi!”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

My husband and I spent two days touring the Financial District. The Millennium Hilton was a perfect location for us. Our window view on the 39th floor was overlooking the WTC Memorial and the Hudson River. It also included the construction of the new transportation center but there was never much noise. Very quiet at night. It gave us time to pause and remember the tragedy and compassion shown of 9/11. An easy walk to anywhere in FiDi. Right next to St. Paul's Church. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The concierge happily tagged our luggage early in the day and stored them until we came back to check in. They also stored them the next day until we were ready to leave the city. You can get timed reservation passes for the WTC Memorial from the concierge. Clean room, comfortable bed, warm pool. We would definitely stay there again!

My wife and I stayed here for a night and it was worth the money. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. We had a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Do not order the room service, I spent $50 on 3 pancakes and an orange juice.

For all the tourists wanting to visit the World Trade Center (WTC) site and downtown NYC, or for a quiet base for your activities during the evening or weekends, this is a very good hotel .. modern, comfortable, easily reachable by all subway lines and tour buses. For NYC/NJ locals looking for an 'experience'/ or getaway, this may not be it. It caters primarily to tourists, some business. Let's review the hotel ...

The Good: We had a high-floor, corner unit, with near-unobstructed amazing views of North, East and West NYC (ask for the North-facing, corner room). Seeing NYC laid out in front of us was breathtaking, including seeing all the classic landmark buildings (i.e.-Empire State, Chrysler, etc.) and the Brooklyn Bridge, river views, as well as part of the WTC site directly below us, all of which made us appreciate the city for all its beauty, mass and beehive of non-stop activity. The views were mesmerizing from morning through the day, to sunset, and evening/night ... with the city all lit up in its glory and frenetic energy (for those visiting the city, bring the camera!!). Now, onto the hotel...the lobby was a small microcosm of this city, busy, dense, with a bar on one side, an active front desk/concierge kiosk with plenty of tourists seeking directions, maps, best places, etc., a tiny souvenir/sundries shop, though unlike the city, the lobby was fairly dimly lit and not that large. No big issues, and the front desk was very nice and helpful with our requests. Our room: spacious, comfortable with a King-Size bed, corner windows showing us the world of NYC, and comfortable lounge chairs, roomy desk for writing home, laptop work, or eating. The bathroom had plenty of room and was clean, sufficient for our usage, though a little dated (80s-90s-ish), but very functional and no issues noted. We liked the convenience of many subway lines being reachable within a block or 2, along with shopping at the famous Century 21 across the street. The rest of NYC is within easy reach by subway (don't be intimidated by it, embrace its convenience and speed, and for seeing real NYers!!!). The biggest plus of the hotel is its absolute convenience to the WTC site, directly across the street... though to visit the memorial, you will need to go a couple of blocks to a special visitor's entrance. Other hotels in the area are not as convenient as this one to subways. We tried the pool at the top...basic and sufficient.

The Bad: During the day, due to the on-going WTC & other construction activities in the area, space is limited down here for walking along the streets, especially within a 2 block radious of the hotel. Sidewalks on WTC side of Church Street is non-existent, and the hotel side is not very wide. Do not expect a leisurely stroll down a wide boulevard here.... during the day and evenings, as you walk on Church Street, it's wall-to-wall tourists... strangling the area, walking to and fro - taking pictures, etc. (a smaller version of the Times Square area where tourists are 10 deep on sidewalks). I know locals avoid this area if at all possible, like Times Square, for obvious reasons. Walk up a block to Broadway, and will have more space. Not a huge problem, but noted. Additionally, the area can get real quiet after weekday work rush-hours, say past 7:00, as well as weekends. This creates an issue of dining and limited restaurants in the area. Most cater to workday workers, but evenings can be tougher if you wish to stroll somewhere nearby for dinner. Of course, there are some in the area, seek out via concierge if unfamiliar. NYC has plenty of choices in other areas, just further away ... a taxi or subway ride away. Try to avoid driving around here also. Also, avoid the hawkers along Church Street pushing their $5 WTC picture books. It's a tragedy in what happened, and they're preying on tourists for the quick $ for their own pockets. Just doesn't seem right...

Summary: As you will note in above review, there were no major issues with the hotel itself. Depending on your priorities and what you wish to do while visiting, the location is great for downtown and WTC access, and within reasonable taxi/subway ride uptown and other parts like Brooklyn, to all that is famous, as well. We didn't find this an issue, at all. Be adventurous! The hotel is slightly dated, but again, not a big issue. It's not a fancy, white-glove-attentive service, luxuriously opulent-world-class hotel, but more of a by-the-numbers, modern, efficient, arms-length hotel, there if you need anything, and not, if you're self-sufficient, privacy-preferred types. It was comfortable, simple, sufficient for a restful and vivacious stay. Try it for the amazing WTC site views (West side of hotel), if you can block out the active construction site for perspective. We loved the Northern view of the city.

Please note: lots of constuction still on-going in the area, not just for the WTC. We did not notice any noise issues, but just giving you a warning if you want to avoid that type of activity near your hotel. Some have strong avoidance feelings.

Happy hotel-ing !!!!

Room Tip: West = WTC site view, North & East = NYC-Manhattan, Brooklyn, NJ.... ask for corner too

Fantastic location on subway route direct from JFK, multi subway line choice for everywhere you need to go. Walking distance to Staten Island Ferry, Chinatown, Little Italy and Brooklyn Bridge. Right next door to 9/11 memorial and also Century 21.
Hotel busy, but has an easy going friendly atmosphere. Usual Hilton facilities and our 40th floor room had outstanding, near 360 degree views. Could not have been better and there are another 15 floors. Room itself was a city view junior suite definitely worth the extra, apart from the views, it was very spacious, clean and well appointed. Bed quality superb
Hotel staff, particularly the concierge desk, were very helpful and knowledgeable. Reception and housekeeping staff we met, were all friendly and pleased to help.
No hesitation in recommending the Millennium Hilton NYC.
Only slight drawback was: few close external restaurants in the evening, it's the financial district after all. During the day, there are plenty delis though. Easy enough to go short subway trip to all the eateries you want. We ate in hotel one night and thought the food bland and disappointing, others seemed ok with it though. Swimming pool was an excellent boon in a NYC hotel

Room Tip: Go for city view option, I think this means you will be above floor 33

Stayed for just one night and can only offer mixed reviews. Hotel was very clean & neat, and view from room on 45th floor facing new Freedom Tower was spectacular. However age of facility is reflected in size of lobby, lobby bar, and roof itself. Also, check-in was very sterile event with no welcoming comments or friendly discussion with check-in staff. Almost felt unwelcome (but not rudely so). Other staff we interacted with during short stay were great (Bellhop and Bartender) but front desk staff need a lesson on being welcoming….even a smile would have been nice.

All staff were very friendly and professional! The location was amazing. Easy access to the subways and there was a lot to do within walking distance. Next time we will enjoy more of the things they have to offer.
