The room is small but clean and the hotel is at a great location. I rent a one bed with a sharing bathroom. They serve free breakfast in the common area downstairs. They have wifi and there's no curfew, you have your own keys to the building and of course to your room.

Pros:
- Good area: Close to a bit of everything; Greenwich Village, West Village, Union Square. Subway a couple of blocks away to get you up or down town with ease.

- Clean: Staff were always noticeably cleaning and fixing things up every day. The shared showers did get dirty (as to be expected) however if you got in early enough the were very clean.

Cons:
- The room: My experience with the room was really poor. The entire room was sloped, so the bed didn't sit properly and slanted to one side. Everything rolled toward that side as a result. Furthermore the keys to the rooms are pieces of junk. It's a lottery as to whether you'll get into the room or not - and your hands will get blisters (as mine did) from trying to turn the key back and forth before the lock gave way. In speaking with other guests, I was not the only one with this problem.

- Breakfast: Some might call it bearable, but barely was. I didn't eat the fruit on a couple of days as it was mouldy, and stopped eating the bagels halfway through my 8 days as it was akin to cardbord. Not enjoyable at all, and not an added bonus to staying here.

- Staff: I read reviews about staff being friendly, so was quite surprised to be greeted by a short, sharp, and rude staff member. On enquiring about a credit card issue a couple of days later (double charged), I was greeted by the same sharpness by the same staff member. As I went to leave the counter, a blonde female approached the counter and his manner completely changed. Friendly as sin, going out of his way to accommodate her.
I'm all for going out of my way for an attractive female, however in this industry the service should be the same for all - especially given the issue was a money issue and there had been poor service up until this point.

Conclusion: This hostel is cheap and somewhere to sleep, however that's it. The next time I come to NY I will certainly be considering alternatives.

The room is quite small and they don't offer refund. I was staying on the top floor and the internet speed is pretty much like the dial up days. The showers are shared and with good hot water. There is free breakfast which meets the basic needs. I wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a room near the kitchen and bring hand soap as well

I stayed in a singleton with shared bathroom at theChelsea International Hostel, and while the room was basic as expected (just a bed, basin, locker and shelves) it was very clean and comfortable. The shared shower and toilet were very nearby and were cleaned regularly. Breakfast (included) was sufficient - cereal, bagel, fruit and coffee - and the wifi worked very well in my room. The staff at the checkin desk were friendly and helpful too.

The location of the hostel is excellent - on a quiet road but in the middle of Chelsea, with decent restaurants and bars nearby and just a few minutes' walk to the subway. The way it is set up,there are several entrances, each catering for one staircase - so there aren't too many people walking past your door at night. The communal areas are for everybody, though, and certainly seemed well used in the mornings and evenings.

It is a basic place to stay - don't expect any luxuries - but it's clean, well located and good value for NYC.

It's within walking distance to Time Square & Greenwich Village. Only a short subway ride to either north or south manhatton. It is quite basic & breakfast is a bit bleak! But I'd stay there again, No problem!!!!!

If you are a fethysist you can feel here comfortable, because communication with travellers and facilities are prison like. Rooms are too dark and decent. Breakfast is very poor. Don't recommend that place although you are very tired and want to sleep for one night.
