“5 star service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2012

My wife and I stayed here for the last week of January. The thing that impressed us most was the excellent service that they provided. Right from our initial check-in until the day we left, we felt the service was fantastic. This was our first time in NYC and we did find the rooms to be a little bit small...but I have heard that is the norm for this city. The king size bed was very comfortable and the housekeeping kept it nice and clean during our stay. We really enjoyed the morning breakfasts that were included. Lots of fresh fruit, make your own waffles, bacon, eggs, hot & cold cereal. Coffee was always on, day or night. We had a room on the very top floor (20th) looking south towards Lower Manhattan and the new Freedom Tower that is being constructed. Just a great view! Really liked the location as well. Within a few minutes walk to multiple subway stations that will take you anywhere you want to go in Manhattan. You can also walk less that 1/2 block to Avenue of the Americas and catch a cab uptown or downtown (cabs are pretty cheap in NYC). You can even walk 10-20 minutes and be at many of the big sites (i.e. Times Square, Greenwich Village, Empire State Building, Union Square etc. Walking in NYC is very enjoyable. Several good restaurants, cheap pizza joints, Whole Foods Market and pubs/wine bars are all around the hotel. We would definetly stay at this hotel again on our next trip to New York City.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor in a room facing south with an excellent view of the Lower Manhattan skyl...

We had a great rate at this hotel because we pre-paid and it was January. It is a lovely hotel with characteristic New York small rooms. We asked for a high floor, but they gave us the 10th (out of 20) floor because we prepaid. When we first arrived, we were treated badly. The front office woman in charge explained that our pre-booking gave us no priviliges (e.g. Hilton Honors status, room selection, civility). Still, the location is great and we were committed.

All of this changed later that day. The concierge (nee doorman) was great: pleasant and helpful. Then a whole new team staffed the front desk and we were greeted with warmth, courtesy, and cookies. For the remainder of our week at the hotel, the staff was excellent, helping with directions, providing hot cookies in the afternoon, and generally creating a convivial atmosphere.

One obnoxious employee doth not make a hotel intolerable. We'd stay here again happily.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor if you can.

We stayed for one night in January. No bells and whistles, but very clean, nice staff, great breakfast, and decent location. Our room was a double/double on the 19th floor. Good size, queen beds (not full), and very quiet. Would stay again if touring lower NYC. Chelsea Market is fun, and Union Square is only an 8 minute walk!

I can't fault this hotel. Great location, excellent breakfast (cooked and/or continental included in the room rate) very friendly staff and very clean, modern, and quiet room. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would definitely use again. The newspaper outside the door each morning also free of charge was a very nice touch. All in all, a very pleasant stay!

I wasn't able to book the two rooms I needed online. The front desk staff was able to give me exactly the rooms I requested.

Both rooms were nicely decorated with a flat screen TV. The bathrooms were a bit on the small side, but it wasn't an issue for us. The beds were extremely comfortable. We didn't have any problems with the elevators.

The Breakfast included two hot items, which varied from eggs, omelets, sausage, bacon and potatoes. You can also make your own hot waffles. Other items: oatmeal, cold cereal, fruit salad, breads/pastries, fresh fruit and yogurt. The breakfast area is quite large and space was never an issue. Its also very modern looking and very clean. 24 coffee and hot cocoa is a nice amenity.

The hotel also offers a business center with two computers. You have to stand to use them as they are on a counter, which I thought was a bit odd.

The hotel is around the corner from Subway lines F & M, and a short walk to lines 1, 2, and 3.

I would definitely recommend this Hampton!

Chelsea is a great area. Make sure to check out the Chelsea Market, about a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a floor without a noisy ice maker!

Front Desk and bell staff excellent. Checked in early and luggage stored no problem.
Close to subway & Path line, many eateries and much more.
Free WiFi and breakfast made the stay good value. Breakfast OK.
No problems with room, typical Manhattan size.
Only stayed the one night 12/10/11 and should have stayed more.
Would stay again.

First, let me say that I haven't lived in NYC for over 30 years and was only really familiar with the upper east side. I picked Chelsea because it was any area I wasn't at all familiar with, had never even come down to see it in the time I live in NYC and also, because it's close to Soho, Greenwich, Meatpacking District, Tribeca, Canal Street, etc. etc. Totally where the action is.

This Hampton Inn was great. It's not the Hampton Inn you find in the new suburban locations, rooms are a bit smaller. But who cares because hopefully, you don't spend much time there. The front desk staff was great ... they were friendly & helpful way beyond what you'd expect. I had a few mishaps, one of which was losing my wallet. They told me exactly what to do & expect. In the end ... miracle of miracles ... it was returned by the cabbie.

Location wise, it's right between 2 major subway lines and is within walking distance of just about everything. Right across the street is the best flea market (I think in NYC) on weekends, two block towards 5th is Eataly (you can't miss this place, REALLY!)

Oh, the breakfasts were fantastic. Very clean, great food choices, relaxing, comfortable. And quite international. Lots of French being spoken when I was there (and you know how "picky" the French are).

Finally, the price can't be beat for Manhattan. Enough said!
