“Inattentive Service and a strange Lunch/Brunch Menu”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We have eaten here before and were always pleased, but something has changed. First off, the lunch/brunch menu is VERY Limited, and when we asked if we could order off the dinner menu, we were told that dinner was not served until 4:00 and the waiter joked that we could wait until then if we wished (it was 2:30). They did not seem open to any special requests either, I asked for a plate of calamari as an app, but no can do. They did agree to modify the sauce to a cream for my daughters meal which was appreciated, but the waiter made some comment that if we have come tomorrow(New Years Eve) they would not have been able to do that ?? The menu consisted of one page of choices for food, and three pages for wine ! After the waiter told us we couldn't order from the dinner menu, we told him we needed a few more minutes to decide, and then he ignored our table for a good 15 minutes. Another couple came in, were seated and then walked out after about 10 minutes since they too were not attended to. All this for a restaurant that had only 5 or so other tables seated. They gave us one basket of bread for 6 people which is not sufficient. We asked for another basket which came, but no refill on the butter which we also had to request...that took forever to arrive. The waiter was not attentive, and never came around to ask how our meals were. Also, before that they brought another tables food to us, and kept asking who ordered these dishes and even placed one at our table before they realized the mistake. I partially blame this on the fact that the waiter who takes your order does not bring you your food to the table. In fact, there was only one waiter handling all of the tables. It may be a way to control costs, but having a busboy who speaks limited English serving the food is a recipe for disaster. A shame, since my Family was looking forward to coming here, since it has been a tradition for us every time we come into the city. This will be a tradition no longer for our family.

“Fine food, but imperfect service”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We had been to Puttenesca before but it was several years back. We went last night after a show with a group of eight. The restaurant has expanded since we were last there and it is a very pleasant decor. It was nicely decorated for the holiday season and we were comfortably seated at a large table. The food was very good. I had ravioli filled with short ribs in a brown sauce that was excellent. The butternut squash soup with a ball of floating parmigiana cheese was delightful. One friend ordered a kobe beef meatball appitizer and we were all shocked when he was served a meatball the size of a swollen softball. He said it was delicious.
The service was poor to fair. The waitress was pleasant, but when the dishes arrived it was like a diner with "who ordered the ..........?" and not all meals were served together. They definitely need to work on their wait staff it is badly lacking in the proper skills for a restaurant of their claimed status.

“VERY Disappointing Puttanesca New York Hells Kitchen”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

VERY INDIFFERENT service here on Monday night this week (December 16 2013) We were a table of three seated at 6:15pm with only three other tables occupied. We were handed a clipboard with specials which were verbatim (word for word) from the menu and at the same price! We had to ask to speak with our waiter who said are you ready to order now? No hello, good evening, the specials are . . The bread with a mysterious green dipping sauce ( there was cilantro in it !) had come as had the water. The waiter was indifferent although he did answer two questions that we asked. By the time he came to our table there were seven other tables seated with one other waiter on the floor The caprese salad arrived with good mozzarella, anemic tomatoes and avocado (avocado? really? caprese?) and the carpaccio was perfect. We had to ask for the appetizer plates to be removed and then suddenly we received three empty small salad sized plates for no reason. We asked to have them removed to the puzzlement of the wait staff not the waiter. The food was not delivered by the waiter but by his support table staff. The gnocchi was mid temperature, the black squid ink pasta was all right and the broccolini with my veal salimbocca was limp and overcooked. NO ONE came to ask if everything was all right - - only the question can we refill one of the two soda drinks. No one checked on my wine. NO interest in dessert The suit who was pacing the bar came to pick up our credit card immediately though!

We eat out frequently and were rather surprised at the non-service in what previously was a good neighborhood reliable place. Too bad they do not read these reviews!

“Yummy Italian close to our hotel”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

Pumpkin ravioli, bread with pesto, fettuccine with Bolognese sauce, and pumpkin cheesecake with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle made a delicious Anniversary dinner. Nice atmosphere, pleasant wait staff. Reasonably priced.

“The ambience drew us in. Such a disappointing experience”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

From the outside it looked great. The menu looked good, but as soon as the server started questioning the menu, Malbec, what's that? A wine? No we don't have that.... Um, it's on the wine list... Oh oh prego ok mal. Bec. Ok and for you? I'll have the Chardonnay the American one, we only have Italian, oh??
It says Hansen Chardonnay, Sonoma as a choice, what?????
Oh ok then. It's like he had never seen the menu before and it was the same with the food. My friend and I ordered burrata to start and then thought we better play it safe and get chicken Parmesan.
Both dishes, awful. The burrata just wasn't good and it was served on a meat, red ish sauce kind if mush.
The chicken parm came out the chicken pieces were huge covering the plate with a very weird yellow melted cheese covering all BUT the burnt edges. The small serve of pasta underneath was steaming but in a ... I've been nuked in a microwave too long kind of way.
At this point we said - look, we just don't like this dish - we didn't even mention the appetizer and how awful that was. Asked for the check, and left. They did take the chicken dishes off - we literally ate one bite... And we then went somewhere else and had a real dinner. Won't return. Would not recommend.
