“Ivory Tower”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Great theatre and excellent documentary on academic institutions and the current state of education. Documentary disturbing for any professors/teachers but a eyeopener - if you haven't already noticed.
Yummy popcorn (always a requirement at the movies!).

“Great ART films”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

It's where you can rely on watching a great movie while the subway train rattles the theater slightly, adding to the special effects.

“Could be so much more/wasted potential”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

This multi theater carries the best selection of independent, original language films in the city. Location is perfect a few steps away from the heart of Soho.. What a shame the waste of space in the interior hall. The super inflated food, snacks drinks prices-$9 for 2 little bottles of water is day time robbery! Pity as it could be so much more than a multi-theater..

“Offering unusual films”
Reviewed 31 January 2014

This theatre keeps showing movies that are excellent but not the top 'block-buster' style. After trying to see 'Gloria' at the MOMA which was a sell-out, I went to see it at the Angelika. Sadly the theaters are very small and the whole complex is poorly located due to the periodically rumbled of the nearby NYSubway line. However the Angelika Film Center is easy to access due to it being in SoHo on Houston St.

The Cafe served a delicious spinach quiche and nicely warmed it up. Two other flavors were offered as was the standard desserts plus muffins, and popcorn. Lots of choices of beverages also.

I look forward to coming here the next time I want to see an independent or small budget movie which may be the 'sleeper' of the year. Having just seen 'Gloria', I now read that it has a Oscar nomination for the best foreign film. So glad NYC has a place to see unusual but excellent films

“Great place, but for the staff”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

This is a great theater, located right in the heart of SoHo. It's really a perfect place for non-SuperFilms. You know, those films that are incredibly well made but not having a billion dollar budget. We saw 'The Invisible Woman' and it was great. It's a lovely theater, it's well laid out and the popcorn is the best I've had in a long time. But the girl at the ticket booth (red hair) condescending, argumentative and rude. The two young men accepting tickets, uninterested at best (unless you're a young lady.) The cleanliness of the cafe, nothing like as shown on the web site and the staff at the refreshments counter not so professional. Like I said, it's a great place but for the staff.
