“The BEST Luxury Hotel in New York City!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2010

From the moment my car pulled up in front the Mandarin, I experienced nothing but Five Star VIP treatment!
The beauty of the hotel, friendliness of the staff and attention to detail is beyond compare.
My room was immaculate with first class linens and toiletries. The view
of Central Park, Columbus Circle, the City Skyline was breathtaking! I slept like a baby snuggled in the plushness of the bed, bedding, and pillows
From the moment you enter the front door, you are struck by the exquisite furnishings, rugs, and artwork. The Doormen are the best in the City...always so helpful and accommodating with smiles and welcome greetings. Housekeeping did an amazing job tending to my every need and request.
My personal greeting/welcome by the Guest Relations Manager upon arrival made me feel like one of the family.
The Concierege staff did an incredible job advising me and getting me what I needed quickly all with style and grace no matter what hour of the day.
If you want the BEST, most luxurious Hotel experience in New York City, stay at the Mandarin Oriental! You'll have the time of your life!

- Very nice asiatic interior design in the hall and in the rooms
- spacious rooms, very large bathrooms
- all possible room amenities, free wifi
- excellent room service
- attentive front desk service
- average swimming pool with nice view on city
- Negative: bar and part of the restaurant with clinical ambience, like a train station

My family (myself, wife and two children - girls ages 7 & 9) stayed for 4 nights at the Mandarin on Columbus Circle. We stayed in a very spacious suite and paid approximately $1,200/night. I mention the price because I was totally shocked that they would charge me for daily Internet use (I believe it was $19.99/day). So I shell out $1,200 a night for the hotel and then they ask for $19.99? This makes me crazy! What could have been an almost perfect stay at the Mandarin turned into

Mandarin management: we live in a new world. The Internet is almost as important as water. To be frank, I would rather be charged for water or electricity use than for the Internet. This may sound exaggerated but it really isn't that far from reality. The Mandarin needs to be ahead of the curve if they want to maintain their pristine reputation. I can understand why many of the marginal hotel chains still charge for the Internet - I still think it is short sighted but it is understandable as they aren't able to charge a high room rate like the Mandarin. Take a look at budget hotels such as Comfort Suites, they are not charging for Internet and in my opinion, it really adds to the experience (wow is Comfort Suites beating the Mandarin in an important customer service area?) Charge me $1,219.99 for your room but don't charge me $1,200 and an Internet fee. Be progressive, stay ahead of the curve. Thanks for listening to my raving.

This is a nice hotel. A very nice hotel. But it is absurdly, nonsensically overpriced. I wasn't paying, and I was booked there by my boss, but I was still offended.

What this hotel offers is a view. It's up high and you can see New York from a spectacular vantage point.

Everything else - rooms, food, bar, concierge - are really not amazingly better (but certainly more expensive) than countless other New York hotels. If you want a comfortable room, don't worry too much about the view, and don't want to feel like you have been rather fleeced, don't stay here.
