Loved Chelsea market, it is a food lovers heaven with food available from all around the world but the highlight is the superb seafood on offer. There is a great wee bar in the market and we found no difficulty spending a few hours in the market eating and drinking. Well worth a visit.

Wanted to go somewhere different for lunch, had a great time at Chelsea Market. This is all indoors with several food shops. We had crepes, pot pies, and picked up cheese and brownies for later. Fun place to walk around and try different foods. They even had small picnic baskets that you could buy while there so you could pack your own lunch for later. There were a couple of other small shops, but this is mostly a food area. Very fun for a lunch and some food shopping time.

There are too many things to eat here. It would take a week of visits to sample the highlights! We had 4 kinds of raw oysters at the oyster bar and there were 6 other kinds we couldn't get to. There are the basics- raw oysters to the innovative- crazy flavors of gelatos and cupcakes. Take a couple friends and bring your own knives/plates to cut portions into samples so you can eat more different things...

If you expect this to be a real market in the European tradition you will be utterly disappointed. All it is, is a glorified restaurant row inside a nicely restored building. If you stay in an apartment with a kitchen, then there is not much to buy to take home and prepare your own meal (what is the essence of a true food market), except of the Lobster Market, the Spice store and the Bread Bakery and the run of the mill grocery store. Raving reviews are typical North America hype with no substance (mostly because they don't know better).
Sure, it is nice to walk through if you happen to be in the neighborhood, but not worth it to make a special trip to see it.

Chelsea market is a nice place to have lunch. Big variety of top of the notch food (no fast food in there - real food only (thank God!!!!). If you have a place to cook where you stay, you can find anything for a nice dinner "at home".
