We went to New York in june, 2008 and stayed at St Marks for two weeks. the neighborhood was quite good. Subway station, restaurants and little markets. The hotel is a bad idea. Noisy place with a pub around. The rooms are small, there's no lift, just endless bad stairs. We asked to change rooms because of the bad fried chicken smell and Jazz noise and the staff almost laughed at us. I'll never be there again.

This hotel is a big rip off. The hotel is closed since mai this year, but still accept bookings. The the hotel is closed due to fire department problems. So you book it, then you arrive there as nobody would let you know. They have booked already a new hotel for you which is worse than that one and cheaper but we were forced to pay the st. marks hotel price...so do not book this hotel unless it has reopened again because the location is good.

Had booked for a few nights when passing NYC on our way to Honolulu, but was very dissapointed when we arrived.

The Hotel was closed 2. of May, but we had recieved no email before we arrived on the evening of 21.st of may from overseas. Staff was unhelpful, told us that they had recerved a room for us at another hotel, but when we got there the hotel told us they were fully booked.

Ended up using my companys own booking system for finding a hotel in NYC as the staff was very unhelping in finding available hotels in NYC on a saturday evening.
The only thing they helped us with was a computer and printer, the rest we had to do ourselves.

We have a reservation for St Marks Hotel in start of June for our return trip but we have already made backup-plans.

We have used St. Marks before and loved it. Friends recommended it to us because they loved it to. The Hotel needs to give better feedback to the customers before we will use this hotel again. A shame realy, as the hotel was really good value and at a very good location.

To be fair, we didn't even get to stay here because when we arrived, 2 employees told us the building had been condemned! They had 18 days to email people with reservations and did nothing. Luckily, they are associated with another cheap hotel in the city, the Park Savoy Hotel on W58th St. near Central Park where they sent us but in a completely different part of the city. I do hope they get their act together since this seems like a cool place to stay.

Absolutely the busiest week of the year in New York City with all the college graduations and knowing that purposely made the reservations months in advance. Our daughter's was also graduating. At check-in we found out the hotel was shut down by the city. NO EMAIL ...NO PHONE CALL ..NO WARNING. We were left walking the streets trying to find another hotel.
