“Classy hotel, corrupt door man”
Reviewed 21 March 2014 via mobile

The hotel is classy and cozy. The door man is a corrupt and crooked. Every request for a cab was accompanied by, first, a suggestion to take his buddies' town cars at a premium rate, then, once I insisted on a yellow cab, he would lead me to another friend waiting along the curb, who was willingly waiting for a "special rate." I eventually insisted on getting my own cab, and watched as the door man led one hotel guest after another to his pre-arranged rides, in every case exchanging cash with his drivers as he got his cut of the inflated deal. Crony capitalism thrives at every level in NYC.

“Fabled hotel, but not for sleep quality”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

No matter how friendly the staff, great the location, chic the bathrooms, or fabled the history of a hotel, if you can't get a good night's sleep there (air shaft equipment noise, squashy bed, wrong-sized bedding that smells of cigarette smokers in the laundry facility...), why bother. This place is not yet up to Marriott standards.

“Very Good Spot”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

The staff was helpful and friendly. Room was clean. Parking garage right across the street with easy access. Close walk to subway and Times Square. My wife and I got a pretty good laugh because our room redefined small. The bellman preferred to use the word quaint, LOL. Anyway, it was an amazing use of the space and works well if you are not spending much time in the room. They do not provide plastic bags for the ice bucket which is somewhat concerning since we do not trust ice buckets.

“Lovely stay - wish we had more time”
Reviewed 31 December 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for one night before setting off on a cruise from NYC. Unfortunately due to a flight delay we were late arriving so didn't get as much time as we'd have liked but what a gorgeous hotel! Incredibly friendly staff. Fairly spacious room by city standards, very comfortable. Opted for breakfast in the hotel to enjoy the surroundings and it was very good. Classic old style hotel, very short walk to Times Square. Hope to return one day

“One of my favorites”
Reviewed 19 December 2013 via mobile

Hotels never feel like home, but we stayed in the Dorothy Parker Suite and were nearly as comfortable as we are at home. Great service, nicely redone, and I like that they kept a nod to the New Yorker wallpaper in spots throughout the hotel.

Great to have a cocktail in the lobby and people watch.
