Stayed for three nights in June. It is everything that it claims to be. Fantastic breakfast, great bar and welcoming and charming staff. Great rooms and visiting cocktail service at your room at 7 (bit of a gimmick - but still memorable).
Surrounding Maetpacking District area is lively and fun. The High Line, just round the corner, is an example to every major city of what can be done with a bit of thought and imagination.
We stayed in June and it was hot, after a poor spell of weather, and we chose the hotel so that we could mix a bit of roof pool / bar time with sightseeing. Unfortunatley it was absolutely mobbed. On the Saturday and Sunday there was no room at the pool or even at the roof bar (apparently people had been queuing from 7.45am). I advised the Manager that I felt this was disappointing, given the cost of the hotel, he simply agreed. We understand that this is a Members club as well as an hotel. A couple of the staff mentioned that too many members were flouting the guest rules.
So ..... more than happy to recommend but be a little careful.

I have stayed at both the Soho and the Plaza when in New York, and the Soho is definitely the place to go if you are looking for a fun time in New York mingling with New Yorkers. We had a great time there. Loved the bar with the cozy chairs and great club snacks/lunch items and cocktails. Enjoyed the opportunity to watch a firm being screened. Only comment on the negative was the pool area was very crowded when we stayed

Stayed a few times - absolutely the best hotel in NYC. Great service, fantastic bar and spa area. Rooms are superb. It is in the Meatpacking District - so very trendy. Lots of film types stay - a proper celebrity haunt!

Room Tip: All rooms I have stayed in have been first class

We have just returned from a week's stay at Soho House which was a special stay for us (celebrating my birthday as well as having a week away from our children). The hotel is in a great location - lots of bars, restaurants and shops at your doorstep, the High Line just at the end of the street. The scene is just as you would expect from a Soho House hotel - plenty of trendy and beautiful people. All areas are lovely in terms of design, the pool whilst not big offers a lovely break away from shopping and sightseeing etc. Food in particular was very good quality at reasonable prices, the service generally as well though when busy are of course a bit stretched. The rooftop bar is hugely busy every night of the week (particularly in the summer months, not sure whether this is the same during the winter season).

We stayed in a medium room which was lovely for us though I wouldn't have wanted any less space. Cowshed products are brilliant, all toiletries are provided for (almost no need to bring anything other then make up).

Now to the not so good bits: being in a hugely popular location the hotel is surrounded by bars and restaurants, including another rooftop bar on 13th Street just across the hotel. The Gansevoort Meatpacking is just across 9th Avenue (long cues outside at weekend nights). From our room we could almost have a chat with people on the opposite building meaning even with double glazed (but not sound proofed in any way) people partying all night felt like they were staying with us. Sleeping withouth earplugs (provided by the hotel) was virtually impossible. This was every night of the week and even on weekend afternoons. In addition (and as previous reviews have mentioned) taxis are hooting for a long part of the night. We raised this with reception to enquire about other room alternatives as well as Mr and Mrs Smith and were due to be contacted by the reservations manager but never even had a single message. Please note there are no rooms to the rear of the building - they either overlook 9th Avenue which is fairly busy or 13th Street which is a side street and not too bad itself.

If you are planning to have a good night sleep before 4am this is not the place to stay during the summer months. In the winter season this maybe completely different though. If you are a party animal and don't need much sleep you can't get much better than this.

Absolutely incredible place!

The front of house staff are simply amazing Odell, Kevin, Joe, Dre, Carida, Glennon. (I can't remember everyone's names). They do everything for you that you ask from booking and recommending amazing restaurants and night clubs, great shopping venues, things to do and see all over the city. Just generally chatting to them behind reception and having fun. We made friends fast.

The house itself is amazing. Chic Cinema. Elegant club/restaurant area. Best rooftop pool in NYC to chill out or tan. Very family friendly as well, mainly just children in the pool during the day. The crowd looks like it's just been plucked out of a modelling agency, especially in the evenings. Probably the best place I've ever been to.

The rooms were immaculate and decorated to such a high standard. The rooms were cleaned twice a day.
You get a great set of cowshed spa products to use in the bathroom and these are replaced everyday.

The complimentary cookies in the rooms are perfect. The cheeseburgers on the roof are pretty amazing too.

If you've got the money then it's so worth it, it's so much more than just a hotel.

Room Tip: Small rooms are definitely big enough

We have just returned from a stay in Soho House. The location and rooms are wonderful. The meatpacking district was our favourite area with loads of great bars and eateries (don't miss Chelsea Market) and we walked everywhere - Time Square, Top of The Rock, Central Park, 911 Memorial, Empire State etc. Our room was also gorgeous - spacious and a very comfy bed (although the bathroom facilities are very open plan - I liked the bath in the room, but would have preferred a bit more privacy in the shower! It wasn't a major issue and obviously wont bother most people - but just thought I would mention it in case you like some privacy!).

However, we were definitely made to feel like second-class citizens compared to the members with the staff being much friendlier with the members and offering them the best seats and giving members who'd just arrived the sun-loungers when we'd been waiting for ages. The roof terrace is fun, with a great atmosphere, but was packed day and night. We had to wait quite a while to be served. One evening we waited for over half and hour, kept asking any member of staff who walked past for a drink, but none materialised, while the members who had arrived after us were accompanied to their seats and offered a drink immediately. We also had some friends to join us one evening in the bar on the 6th floor and were met with snooty derision and told we couldn't sit in certain areas even though there wasn't a single other person in the bar (everyone was partying on the roof) and we were only staying for one cocktail. There was still nobody else in there by the time we'd finished our drinks. The problem also continued to the spa where the members would shower and change after hanging out on the roof whether or not they were having a treatment, so rather than a gorgeous, relaxing experience in the run up to my treatment (as at Babington House and the St Moritz Cowshed spas), it was rather busy and rowdy. However, the massage was amazing and my friend said hers was the best facial she'd had.

I completely understand that this is a member's club, but just wanted to point out to non-member hotel guests the pitfalls of this, as I think I would stay at a different hotel next time. We went to a couple where the public rooftop bars were separated from the rooftop pools which was for hotel guests only. These look like a great compromise as you get the fun atmosphere, but there was always room in the pool and available sun-loungers.

In the Meat Packing District, Soho House is a member's only club. As a hotel guest, you have access to the coolest club in NYC. Walking in to the roof top bar felt like a scene of Sex and The City, and in fact, an episode was filmed there (season 6). The hotel has every creature comfort, great big comfy beds, a nespresso machine and pods in the room, fluffy robes, Cow Shed products in the bathroom, heated towel racks - you name it. Very helpful staff, a great location, and there's no need to go out at night - just catch the elevator up to either the club room or roof top bar. Well done to Mr and Mrs Smith for adding this to their list. More on my blog http://travelletto.com/2014/06/19/new-york-coolest-place-stay/
