“Disappointed :(”
Reviewed 25 March 2013

Went on Saturday night, had booked for 9.15 and seated for about 10pm. Really would not have minded if the host had been friendly and nice and knew what she was doing. Got asked to follow her into the downstairs restaurant at one point to our table then she wandered round and said, oh cant find your table then told us to wait at the bar. Confusing! Then were we given a table up stairs in what was more like the bar area. We had to use our phones to see the menu because it was so dark and the music was so loud we could hardly hear each other. We ordered one of the large sharing cocktails and it arrived after our food was finished- 30 minutes, the waitress did apologise while we were waiting and said it was a new recipe so they didn't know how to make it.

The food was ok but because it was so dark it was hard to see the dishes properly.
The men's restroom was in front to the side of us, the signage on the door was so hard to see we watched girls walk in there many times, very amusing.

We really wanted to have a great fun night hence why we picked this restaurant bit were really disappointed

“What!?!?”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

This place looks like scarface and bobby brown had a baby. Some guy with a fox draped around his neck let us in and told my friend that we "better spend money." I just wanted to leave at that point. Dad's that really need to be said in the Meat Packing District to obvious professionals? This place and fox man are a joke.

“Very trendy- good food and good place to be seen!”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

I went to Toy for dinner Saturday night as party of a fun bachelorette party weekend. Upon arrival we were greeted quickly by the oh-so trendy and fashionable hostess. We had a slight wait, but soon enough our table was ready and we were escorted through the crowd. There were 15 of us so we had called ahead and had a pre-set meal arranged for us. I must also add that one of our guests has food allergies and Toy was great about it! They went over the menu with her so she would know what was OK to order and what she should avoid. They even made a special side dish of rice for her since she could not eat normally prepared. Kudos to Toy for that!!
So- our meal consisted of 3 different appetizers (shrimp toast cigars, Singapore 18 veggie salad and spicy beef dumplings), 4 main entrees (mahogany chicken, caramelized black cod, maitake noodles and a beef short rib), side dishes (fried rice) and then dessert (chocolate cake). Shrimp toast cigars were really cute- and tasted good. Veggie salad was so-so (reminded me of cole slaw) and the spicy dumplings were ok- nothing special. Chicken was a bit dry so I had one taste and that was it and the beef short rib was fatty IMO. Noodles and fried rice were typical lo mein/rice you could get from any chinese take out. The best dish surprisingly was the cod- our server (who was wonderful by the way...very funny and attentive but not in a smothering type of way!) said it was the best dish on their menu. Man, was she right! It was melt in your mouth good- the mushrooms and leeks added a wonderful flavor to it as well! I highly recommend that dish!! There was plenty of food for everyone- portions were beautifully plated and quite generous in size which surprised me. I actually felt bad about how much food was leftover but we were just way too stuffed to have another bite.

Prices for dinner and drinks are comparable to any other hip NYC restaurant- over priced. But if you are in the Meat-packing district, you already know you will be paying $18 for a glass of wine so you shouldn't be surprised! Overall- this was a great meal. I would return again to just order that Cod!!

“Wanna be sushi.”
Reviewed 20 September 2012

The interior is beautiful, the service is very good, it is not too expensive but the food is below standards.
The tuna sashimi was not fresh enough, the maki rolls were beautiful but tasteless, the duck was the quality of a cheap take away chinese restaurant.
