Just returned from a weekend trip to NYC and had an excellent stay at the Refinery! From the front doorman to front desk to manager, staff service is exemplary. They remembered our name from the moment we checked in - nice to walk through the lobby and be greeted by name. Room (king bed) was extremely clean, huge bathroom, beautiful floors and one of the most comfortable beds i've had in a hotel! Unfortunately we were so busy w/ our other plans that we didn't get to enjoy the amenities on site (lobby bar, restaurant or rooftop bar) but the atmosphere was wonderful! A hidden gem...would love to return! PS - We were on the fourth flood and never heard any other noise...that doesn't usually happen in NYC!

The minute you walk in, you are greeted by the friendly, approachable staff and treated to a stress-free, simple check-in. The lobby and downstairs bar area are cool, quiet, and sleek and that vibe extends up to the rooms. Clearly renovated with a sympathetic eye, they are streamlined and impeccably clean, the beds are oh-so-comfortable with quality linens and I loved the toiletries suppled in the bath.
I stayed over a weekend and did not visit the rooftop deck, though apparently it is very popular with a pretty constant line in front of the hotel waiting entry.
I found the location ideal, 2 blocks south of Bryant Park with easy walking access to the theater district, Times Square or Grand Central for great subway connections.
The Refinery very much deserves its high rating and I would return in a NY minute!

Room Tip: If you are on a higher floor, a room toward the back will keep away the rooftop bar noise

Hotel was lovely , and the rooftop bar was amazing . Great central location to explore New York . The service was good however we did not get greeted with a complimentary glass of wine like some guests . I would stay here again for sure

Having sampled many of New York's boutiques, The Refinery is amongst the best. Slick, fun and with an excellent vibe. The staff was accommodating, pleasant and approachable. Room cleanliness outstanding and the location superior.

And yes, there is noise. It's New York folks. Closer to the street means some noise, but it also means a better and more local experience. And this is a thoughtful renovation in a historical building.

We would return in a heartbeat.

Entering the lobby, greeted with friendly and helpful staff and a pleasant smelling aroma. I'm a sucker for that! So, I was super excited for the big room reveal. Alas, the room was ok. Clean and pleasant. But a terrible mildew smell from a shower curtain in desperate need of replacement and a tub that would not drain - especially disruptive when waiting 5 minutes to get the hot water to start. Overall - just ok and would not return. Better options at this price point.

Hits the trifecta of what a great hotel should be - location/great rooms and service.

Awesome location on 38th street, close to the subway and within walking distance of Times Square, Empire State, Macy's, 5th avenue etc. Also next door is a gem of a coffeeshop - Culture; great bright tasting lattes and cappuccinos and really smooth cold brews.

Love the boutique hotel rooms- clean with a vintage/Modern appeal and nicely sized

Lastly the service, the staff have been ever attentive and thoughtful- if your like us and amazon/online shop to your hotel, the staff have certainly been very kind in putting up with the throng of packages that have been sent in our names

Couldn't recommend it more, will certainly come back to stay

Needs soundproofing. Street noise was a major issue. If I had known how loud it was going to be I would not have accepted the room, but we got in so late I felt I had no option. NMattress was notably sagging and should be replaced. Loved the vibe of the room and location of the hotel. Reception clerk made me feel like a criminal with the upfront charge for incidentals that gets reversed if you aren't a criminal.
