We booked this hotel for an overnight for the weekend after Christmas. The city was crazy busy but the hotel is in a much quieter part of the city which is kind of nice. We went out for a nightcap and there aren't a lot of hip/cool places to find within a short walk. However the old Palm restaurant is right there and that has some great old city history. The hotel is super convenient to Grand Central which means easy access to a lot of transportation. Parking was right next door and was not a deal killer (even with a SUV, which adds about $13 more).
The room was about what you would expect; small, but by NY standards pretty good. We paid extra for a view room but we were stuck on 17th floor north side and frankly the view was disappointing. The bedsheets and duvets were very comfortable and as far as I am concerned, that means a lot. The bed was a little soft for my taste.
Front desk staff was pleasant. The service was good: when we asked for addition sheets they were delivered quickly by a kind and smiling staff member. Breakfast and dining room were as one would expect from a Hampton in anywhere in the country. Not much. If you are looking for a cool new chique hotel this is not the place. The lobby is small and very underwhelming. The hallways, are compact and unattractive but so what.
I will probably book elsewhere next time just for a change of pace, but if you are quoted a good rate do not be afraid to take it.
