My brother and I were in the last group to tour the 9/11 Memorial on a Saturday evening, and heading back to the subway for a ride uptown for dinner, when we passed by Pronto. I stopped, looked back, and thought, what the heck. So I turned to my brother who had never been to NYC before, and we just smiled in agreement, and went in. Place was quiet with about half the tables on the main floor filled. People came in for take out, though.
Large selection of pies, priced per number of toppings, although it was unclear what was on each pizza. They were not labeled. Also unclear if certain slices were 2, 3 toppings, or more. But this is a place for workers in the financial district, so they would know what's what. Service was well..."New York" - not rude per se, but no time to be wasted with explanations, etc.
Slices were large and hefty - we got slices with everything on them. I got two slices - should have kept it to one! We sat over beverages while our slice warmed up nicely. Pizza was tasty with distinct flavors. Price was fine given the size and quality, and that after all, this IS New York! But the authentic atmosphere of dining in a place where New Yorkers eat daily was worth it. I am sure that we saved money, and got the "real" NY experience.
