“Small space, good food”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

My husband and I were in NYC for Memorial day weekend to celebrate our friends’ recent engagement. On our last day in the city, we met up with one of my grad school friends and he suggested we meet at Briciola. It was convenient to get back to our mid-town hotel, grab our bags, and then head to Penn Station to catch our train back home. The restaurant is super small, and it’s a shared/community style table. Every space is utilized well. The service was good, the food was outstanding! My husband and I shared an eggplant appetizer and split a pasta dish. The pasta was so fresh and tasty. Since we were short on time, we were in a bit of a rush but I definitely want to return to Briciola for another meal the next time I’m in NYC.

“Tiny Space, Great Small Eats”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Get ready to raise your voice in order to be heard across the large communal table where 20 of your closest friends (or not so close) are packed in like sardines. But the food is nice, and affordable too. Highlights include the Fettuccine Ai Funghi and Asparagi E Uovo. Nice wine selection by the glass too, and affordable!

“Great food and wine!”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

We shared a variety of small plates and some wine for lunch. The figs, pesto penne, burata and other dishes were all excellent. The deserts were just good. Great wine by the glass list. The owner (we think) is very knowledgeable but a bit standoffish. Overall a great meal with timely if not to happy service!

“First Rate Experience”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Briciola is great venue with plenty to recommend.

First and foremost the food. Briciola has great $1 oysters, They're large and succulent and great even without cocktail sauce. From the cured meats to the meatballs to the pastas, there is plenty to recommend at Briciola for dining.

Second is the venue. The venue itself is very unusual - perhaps very Italian. The way guests are seated lets them talk freely with other guests as they're not separated by table, creating a warm family like environment. The wine bottles on the wall help provide a nice accent to the place making its look distinguished and different from usual dining establishments.

As a wine bar, Briciola has a large list of wines. Most of them are somewhat dry and bitter though, not many sweet reds or whites.

Overall a terrific experience.

“Real food in New York, go figure”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Let me start by saying I'm not a fan of US food. The portions are too big, it's too sweet and in general bland. So, if you're after typical NY fare then avoid this restaurant. And it is a restaurant, don't go thinking you can have a pleasant glass of wine as they are there to sell food, the great wine is a bonus.
We tried the spaghetti vongole and the papardelle with osso buco. The oysters were excellent and the salad caprese full of flavour. There is plenty more to go back for but the fundamentals are small plates and pasta.
It's TINY, it's great Italian food and the staff are delightful. There should be more of it in this huge bustling city but I'm yet to find another. Wait for a table, it's worth it.

It is NOT a family restaurant.
