“A Jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2012 via mobile

Excellent French Bistro on a small street in the West Village filled with restaurants. This restaurant has a list of very well prepared dishes and management and staff are absolutely top notch. We have been coming to this restaurant for some time and the staff has never changed.

Oysters here are absolutely the best. The owner (Pamela) had Peters Point from Massachusetts this past Saturday. They could not have been better or fresher. My wife had the frisée salad. Always excellent. For main courses we had duck confit and poulet. Both excellent. For dessert we shared the bread pudding dessert. Our wine was a reasonably priced Chardonnay. This is a place well worth a visit. Keep in mind that it is very tiny so advance reservations are required especially on Saturday. The noise level is energetic but that just adds to the overall positive experience. We highly recommend this restaurant

“Really wanted ti like this place, but...meh...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2012

Since Gascogne is now closed, we were looking for a place to get our French fix and, based on reviews, picked Le Gigot.

Took a party of four to Le Gigot on a Saturday night. Reservation was honored on time. Thought they had a full bar, but no. Nice wine selection, though. Crab cake appetizer was wonderful, as advertised. My duck confit was excellent. Daughters had chicken and hanger steak, both very nice. Wife's cassoulet was flavorful, if a little greasy. Desserts were unremarkable in every sense.

It was okay, but we probably won't return. Liked the space, but the noise level was just short of the flight deck on an aircraft carrier. I counted 24 seats in a space that should probably hold no more than 18.

One more thing...after dessert we were lingering a little and the staff made no secret that they wanted that table to turn. I understand that, but don't stand in a little group pointing and trying to get each other to toss us out after I just shelled out over $300 for a dinner that was just okay.

“Lovely, french-inspired cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2012

We come here nearly every time we visit NYC, and it is always lovely. Great food, great service, quaint atmosphere. It was recommended to us on a Greenwich Village Food Tour, and we are so glad it was. I wouldn't say the cuisine is totally French, more French-inspired, but well done.

“Love this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2012

Excellent, delicious food. Great atmosphere. We are return customers. They only take cash, so bring lots of it, but it is well worth every penny. The scallops and risotto were out of this world. And I loved the brioche pudding.

“Village Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2012

In a nice, cozy space, with great food and ambiance. Pam, the owner, is friendly, as are the staff. The space is small, which can either seem romantic or, if crowded, a little cramped and noisy, but always welcoming.
