“It is worth the wait for chocolate-lovers”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We didn't initially plan on visiting Serendipity 3 but once we got to the city it was something we had to check out for ourselves. We walked by around lunch time and we were told it was at least and hour and a half wait so we decided to come back later. NOTE: They do not take carry-out orders so if you want to try anything on the menu, you MUST dine-in. At around 10pm we decided to give it another shot only to be told that there was an hour wait. Our time in NYC was limited so we decided to wait with the rest of Manhattan so we can try the World Famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. Most of our time was spent waiting outside but once we got through the door we stepped into a gift shop of the most random stuff such as a baby pacifier with a mustache print to nostalgic toys. There is no seating in the waiting area so you might as well look around at all of the various trinkets for sale to help pass the time. You can easily see why the wait is so long when you notice the cramped space and the limited number of tables. There is also a second story with more room and that is where we were seated. We took a look at the menu and of course decided on a Frozen Hot Chocolate for each of us. When they came we realized that we both could have shared one because they was bigger than we had anticipated. It was a really good treat and a chocolate-lovers dream. I would describe it as an icy chocolate shake with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. I would go back and have it again. We also ordered the nachos to munch on which helped cut through all of the sweetness of the chocolate and they were really good. The staff was friendly and made us feel comfortable. You are surrounded by lots of tourists so don't feel like you just walked into a locals-only hangout. If you decided that you enjoyed the Frozen Hot Chocolate, you can purchase the mix at the register as a souvenir or as a way to satisfy your craving when you are thousands of miles away from New York.

“So good!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

I went on a weekday for lunch, and I was early enough that I missed the line up. It's a popular place, so you have to take that into account when you're going. And when you're there, you must get their famous frozen hot chocolate! It's too much to finish for a solo diner, but get it anyway because it's so very yummy!

“Must do NYC 'attraction'. Bit dear for what you get.”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

Had to visit after watching the film Serendipity, did have to put our name on the list and come back in half hour which wasn't bad. Very quirky place, love the decor. Certainly a lot to look at. The food was nice, but its not what would bring people back. Its quite dear too...but I guess thats because they can get away with it. Friendly staff.

“This is AN EXPERIENCE....”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Be prepared to wait at Serendipity at least an hour because, after 50+ years as a NYC institution EVERYONE goes there. My granddaughter and I thought we'd catch an early dinner before theater and got there at 4 PM and low and behold we still had to wait an hour. The food is better than most of the "fun" restaurants in NYC....their salads are good, their sandwiches are wonderful, and they have something for everyone. But the dirty little secret is that most people want what put them on the map and that is their famous "frozen hot chocolate." I've been going to Serendipity for at least 50 years and here's something to consider: they make THE BEST hot fudge sundae on the planet. All the tiffany shades, and kooky stuff for sale is fun; but the hot fudge sundae is serious business. Any food you order will be made as well or better than most places....but not one place you go to will have the fun, fashion, and quality of Serendipity.....and no one makes desserts like they do. Now, everyone knows this and you will have to wait....but I have found myself waiting with celebrities of all types and sports figures. Never know who you'll meet at the triple globe lamppost!
